Please help! I ate one cupcake

Hello. I am a prekindergarten teacher in the US and today is valentine day. We are celebrating by making cards, eating candy and cupcakes. I ate only one cupcake and it was so sweet that I couldn't stand it and had to throw half in the trash. The sweetness of it also hurt my tooth/ I assume my reaction to the sweetness came from me not having anything sweet since I started eating healthier two months ago. I ate the cupcake and I feel like ive gained 20 pounds

This sounds so sad to be feeling this way after eating 1/2 of a cupcake.
I hope those sweet little prekindergarten kids that helped make cupcakes did not see you throw it away.

We can't help you. See your doctor.26

Feeling as though you've gained 20 pounds after half of a cupcake is not a healthy behavior. Half a cupcake is fairly easy to fit into your calorie goals for the day and shouldn't cause anything near weight gain short of some medical issues. Since you don't seem to want to listen to any of us, I'm going to go a different direction.
What would you say to one of your students if they came up to you as panicked as you've been after engaging in a fairly normal and healthy behavior?17 -
Eating one cupcake won't change anything. You won't gain any weight from eating one cupcake.
Like someone else above me has said: see your doctor. And I hope those kids didn't see you throwing it away!4 -
That sounds like a cavity, see your dentist.16
-
I ate a delicious lemon paczki yesterday and logged it and came in under my calorie goal! Today I was down .6 lbs from yesterday! I don't have much of a sweet tooth so I understand that feeling of "WOW THAT WAS SO MUCH SUGAR" but it's a tradition in our house to have a paczki on Fat Tuesday.
It really doesn't matter what you eat in the long run if your goal is simply weight loss.7 -
Also see your dentist. When I got a toothache after eating something sugary, it turned out that I needed root canal. (Of course, I ignored the issue for months; it might've just been a small cavity the first time.)4
-
Were the peanut butter cookie snacks you had the other day not sweet?
Seriously though, I get having some desserts taste too sweet but between your scale thread and this one your mindset is worrying. Please take everyone's advice to get some help.
And see a dentist if sweet stuff is hurting your teeth, same as you would if cold or hot made your teeth hurt.8 -
Put it in your Food log and move on. It is one cupcake, not a bing. There is no slippery slope here, unless you create one. Don't feel guilty--cupcake is gone for good. Think in the long term, not the short term and you will realize this is not worth feeling guilty about.4

You're going to have to help yourself. You won't listen to us.14

OP, you are well on the way to developing disordered behaviors with respect to food. Get help, especially if you are dealing with young children.7

I really wanted a doughnut this morning. I was hoping someone would bring them in for Valentine's. But no luck!5 -

I'm finding that, as I've gotten older, my teeth are more sensitive. I use Sensodyne toothpaste and it works for me.
I've also had a root canal (also left too long etc.).0 -
It doesn't seem like you are ready to lose weight and keep it off. If having a half of a cup cake makes you feel like you gained 20lbs your image of food and a balanced diet is completely off, you have found a way to lie to yourself and vilify food.4
-
Overly sweet things sometimes hurt my teeth because they are sensitive. Just like some very cold things.... I can only eat ice cream in small bites (makes it last longer).
It's all about getting that bite at the right angle.... I got it down. Gimme that cupcake.....1 -
Your solution is learning how to change your attitudes and beliefs about food. See the resources on these pages, and either buy "The Beck Diet Solution" book or find yourself a CBT therapist who works with weight loss clients who can help you:

Love, you might be wondering why people are making jokes here and in your other threads: because they don't take you serious anymore. You've gotten such good advice, yet you've not replied once. You just shout and stomp like a little child that is having a tantrum. Yes, this is how you behave. Now take the time and read through your previous threads. And get professional help. Your relationship with food is really unhealthy.11 -
1/2 of a cupcake is not enough to cause you to even gain 1 lb.
Stop the drama and look at the situation realistically.5 -
The sad thing is that it was probably a grocery store cupcake and not even worth the 200 calories.
I do agree to see your dentist if it hurt your teeth though...3 -
Depending on how dramatically you've changed your diet -- in other words, have you eliminated things like sugar, wheat, and other potential reactive foods from your diet -- also, if the cup cake was commercially made, it could have contained dyes or chemicals you've previously eliminated -- and you're reacting to it. If not, as the others have said, a half of cupcake does not ruin your dietary plan; it's OK, a little bump in the road. You shouldn't feel guilty about it. Your reaction to it being overly sweet says you've made great progress in changing your palate. Pat yourself on the back.

Wow what a sigh of relief. thanks everyone. I have another question. I purchased two different scales and one say that I am 313 and the other says 315. Which one should i believe7

Welcome to my world!
Back when I was on a normal diet I’d feel fat and antsy whenever I had sugar or carbs. Best way to get rid of it? Work out. Even though I am Keto now if I don’t workout regularly I get the same feeling, always resolves with high-intensity excercise.
Hope that helps!2 -

315.
Seriously. Only use one scale. Different scales do not weigh the same. Take the other one back.2 -

Your absolute weight on the scale doesn't really matter. All that matters is low variance of the scale at the same weight. You're usually using scales to measure progress, not determine your absolute weight.
So whichever one you want to believe, use that one everytime and measure yourself at roughly the same time every time under similar conditions.1 -

Thanks so much for the advice. This is my first sweet since December. I did have peanut butter cookies but they weren't as sweet as the cupcake. It was so sweet until it was disgusting6 -
