3 months down the line, I feel more energetic, more powerful and I'm 56 LBS lighter, and like I said, I give credit to fruit, veg meat free products.
I agree, if people knew this they would be much more likely to change their habits. It takes so little to make your body happy.
Not giving your body the sufficient nutrients it needs from vegetables, fruit, protein and fiber causes all manner of illness and lethargy; not to mention overeating because you instinctively try to fill your nutrient needs and if you are eating all of one type of food you just can't possibly do that.
edit to say, I don't think being "meat free" affects energy. Hope you are getting enough protein - not to mention the vitamins and minerals found in meat.
If I'm not eating meat, I usually get protein from eggs, certain Quorn products, whole grains, veg, nuts, etc.
My girl is vegetarian, and she doesn't like being around it. Not that she prevents me from eating, but she won't cook it, and she's a good cook, so I just go for the meat free option. Besides, I feel less bad on the animals then!
Anyway, yeah, back to the point, fruit, veg, nuts and whole grains do it for me. It's not even really a case of losing weight, it's a case of feeling good, energetic and alive, which in turn promotes exercise, which leads to healthy weight maintenance.0 -
Define 'healthy'.
I eat Wendy's and Popeye's but never feel bloated or lethargic (chicken strips and mashed potatoes is my favorite pre-lifting meal, actually.) Unless I eat too much. But too much of anything make me feel that way.
Subway is gross. Also that sandwich sounds like it's low on fat/protein vs carbs. Pass.
I would contend regular exercise and a calorie deficit is why you feel better, vs eating subway instead of kfc. Not to say you shouldn't eat whatever make you happy, but let's not put down so called unhealthy food to do it.
Until you eat clean for AT LEAST two weeks, a month is better, you won't know what _EndGame_ is talking about. Anyone can do almost anything for 30 days including eating clean. It will change your life!
My quick definition of eating clean: No dairy, mostly fresh organic green vegetables when you can, limit fish, chicken and beef when you can. Limit processed foods to almost zero. This is a tall order for someone just starting. So, take it a step at a time with the understanding you will mess up here and there. Ultimately, with perseverance and an open mind you will gradually become a much healthier person and know exactly what _EndGame_ is talking about.

Been there - done that for a month and felt NO different. Not at all, it certainly didn't change my life. :noway:
I feel 100% better when I follow IIFYM, when I can have what I like in moderation - it means I can go out and eat with friends without worrying etc. No stressing that something isn't 'clean' (although it wasn't called clean eating when I tried it).
Congrats on feeling better op - I'm glad you've found something that works for you :flowerforyou:0 -

My nutricionist and trainer would kill me if i told tham this. First of all, dairy(if low fat) consumed in moderation- as everything is healthy. Second your "limit" foods should me included( if you exercise) to minimum one portion daily and i have to repeat "MINIMUM". Okay, processed foods, yes limit it to almost zero, moderation is the key. I have been eating healthy and maintaining for 7 months and found myself completely out of control through almost entire July, binging every third day. That was because i was opsessed with eating healthy and not allowing myself a single sweet thing or a single fast food, anything basically. AAlthough i ate cheese so my diet would by your definition be unhealthy i guess. However i think there should be no limit foods as eventually, maybe not after a day, moth or year but eventually you give in the cravings IF and only if you are being too strict. So i say go for moderation, that is the key to everything.0 -

I love natural foods and feel much energised after a few days without chocolate and processed takeaways like Maccy D's! I'm also well in favour of finding ways to make more wholesome versions of 'treat food' (anyone who can make me a recipe for KFC chicken strips will be my hero) and I'm not convinced by no dairy simply becuase one needs calcium and dairy is the clear winner in terms of nutrients on that one.
The fact is as long as you enjoy your food, eat reasonable portions and keep it fresh whenever possible, the occasional pizza won't kill you (though as a gluten-intolerant it certainly doesn't do ME any favours!!!)0 -
Eat how you want but I really wish people would quit putting foods in bad/good, healthy/unhealthy, clean/junk/dirty categories. it's ridiculous
This. It's so judgemental. We all know what works for someone on this board doesn't work for everyone.
What you eat and how you eat should be done on what works for you. 'Clean' eating works for you. Great, shout it as loud as you want. Just don't belittle people who don't eat clean.0 -
As with every discussion that takes place in this forum regarding "clean" versus "dirty" eating, there seems to be an abundant number of people with loads of success on both sides of the issue. Can it be that there is merit in both? Isn't the idea of one way being better than the other relative to each person and their individual goals?
ETA: Maybe I'm just a smelly hippy, but if the above is the case, can't we all just hug it out? (I say this because I've seen far too many of these discussions go awry. This one is pretty civil so far.)0
