What "I know it sounds weird, but just try it" thing do you swear by?

For example,

If you handled garlic and want to remove the smell from your hands don't use soap, use salt.

    Burns a bit.

    Pick up a hunk of fresh bread and sniff deeply.

    Burn goes away.
