Maintainers weekly Check-in March 2018

@psychod787 Actually, I have an addiction to potassium salt substitute and a tendency to drink up to a gallon of fluids some days. That's enough to screw with my sodium balance. Happens to me every few months or so, though it's been a good while since the last time and it caught me by surprise when I got so tired this past week and felt that breathlessness and flip-flop feeling just above my stomach.2

Success/struggles: Finally! After three weeks my weight budged. I don't know how or why now exactly, but it has. I noticed it during the week in how my clothes were fitting, but 4 lbs in a weeks IS kind of drastic. I've been doing the same as the three previous weeks: eating well and working out consistently. Maybe I was retaining water?Whatever, it's a shift and I'll take it. Glad to finally be back in the middle of my range!11 -

Successes: stable weight, got 2 jogs in this week, had less coffee machine drinks. 35,000 steps in the WEEK. Easier to get exercice on longer, milder days
Struggles: want to lose 1.6 k, (or 3.5 lbs) to be at maintenance, but I've been stable for at least 3 weeks. average weight loss over 7 weeks, has, with this stable spell, levelled off to 0.9 lbs per week. I'm loathe to cut back. I may just try to stick with it and see if WL comes this week. If not, next week I tweak, probably avoiding eating AP.5 -

I am just starting maintenance this time around, which I hope will be the last time I have to go through that. Mu success this week is joining this club. I am not adjusting to maintenance calories yet; I want to very slowly lose a few more to give me a bigger cushion. Instead of a set range, I have an absolute upper limit. BMI < 25 is the line in the sand. 164 is 24.9. I am 163 now.12 -

Success: returning from trips and getting back on it. Listening to my pt person. Finding some joy in elliptical. Rededicating myself.
Struggles: sitting at the top of my weight range for too long. I definitely do not like this feeling. Too much alcohol on the weekends and not being settled has been difficult. 1 more month of this and then it gets a little easier.
March plan: focus focus. Getting all caloric burns before 12 and not waiting to do it later cause later sometimes doesn’t come. More diligent tracking and no snacking.7 -

Sucesses/Struggles: Not much to report this week. Weight is up a bit but nothing to be concerned with. Looking forward to when the weather "settles" and I can get out and move. It's like winter is in a fight with someone and keeps leaving the room and coming back like "AND ANOTHER THING"...we get days where it's darn nice, and the next it's snowing...ugh. But it's almost over!
I hope you are all doing great!

Success/struggles of the week: My weight seems to be trending right at or slightly below my stated maintenance range. I guess that is a success. I am officially training for a half marathon in May. I am just focusing on trying to keep my CI as equal to my CO as I can. There is a fine line between "you can't outrun a bad diet" and "you have to fuel your runs". So far I'm doing alright with it.12 -

Successes/struggles of the week: I want to be closer to 140 than 150 but have such limited calories in play and been feeling more deprived than I did the last couple of months on my diet. Thus far maintenance sucks. Averaging 1350 calories a day in the long run... how can that be sustainable? That calorie level leaves no room for anything but the same old nourishment level food day after day while I have to watch the pizzas, French fries, pretzels, cheese, crunchy snacks, alcoholic beverage, etc. go by and say NO - I don’t have enough calories.
I was looking forward to relief in maintenance but it turned out to be only marginally more calories but no weight loss/measurement shrink rewards and is only sad and weary making. For my health sake I have to continue but .. oh never mind. Same old crap with me having no idea how to make it better. I do like being out of pain, and knowing I’m not on a slippery slope to being a burden because of the health problems that I was courting at my higher weight. But honestly, it still sucks.8 -

If you want to eat more then it will take moving more. That's how most of us who are small yet maintain on higher calories works. (I'm 5ft 2 /48yrs, maintenance cals for me is 1950-2000. I only work out 30-40 mins a day.)
But all in all you are maintaining, so well done5 -

Successes/struggles of the week: I'm pleased to be making progress in my quest to move down closer to the bottom of my maintenance range, proving once again that a mean scale is no match for a determined woman, hehe. And in the eternal quest to establish my TDEE, I'm very pleased to see that it's looking like I can pretty much rely on my (heart-rate based) Fitbit. Over the last 6 weeks, my "expected" loss was 4.1 lbs, and my "actual" loss was 4.8 lbs.
Meanwhile, like everyone else, I'm yearning for spring!! All the best to all you maintainers, I salute your ongoing determination and strength!

@ryenday, as @LivingtheLeanDream noted, being more active and earning some exercise calories is a great way to increase your daily calorie allotment - certainly that's always been my "secret weapon" for living with calorie restrictions. And I can well imagine how hard it would be to live on just 1350!
But since you mentioned pizza, I thought you'd be interested to know that I was at the grocery store a few months ago and got pretty interested in examining the packages of pre-made pizza crusts. The calorie count for 1/2 a medium-sized pizza (thin crust, Multigrain) looked promising, so I bought a package, and started making a fantastic pizza loaded with mushrooms, and incorporating Classico sauce, pepperoni, onions, olives, and mozzarella pizza cheese. I cut it into 4 pieces, so it's a nice quantity, and best of all, it's only 530 calories. I have eaten it dozens and dozens of times over the last few times, and still LOVE it!! Feel free to message me if you want more info. Wishing you all good things!2 -

already averaging 12000 steps a day. Swim two miles a week. On non swim days I do other moderate cardio a minimum of 30 minutes a day (walking, dancing, hula hoop, mini trampoline or Exercycle. ). I stand at my job a minimum of 12 hours a week. Weight train 2x a week. My 9500 weekly calories include a lot of movement. ‘Just move more’ doesn’t help some of us much, unfortunately - moving any more and I’ll be even hungrier and the extra calories (about 60 per 1/2 hour at above activities) don’t even begin to cover being hungrier.
Thanks tho, but unfortunately, I appear to be stuck. And I’m afraid only 530 calories makes it somewhat iout of my league, the multiple veggie and chicken bowls will curb hunger better for that calorie amount.
I really shouldn’t have kvetched about my situation here, as y’all want to help (and thank you, I appreciate it.) but as far as I can determine there just is no helping. Eating on a 5:2 diet schedule makes it barely bearable but leaves me somewhat depressed and hangry on he 2 light days, but I need the Five 1600 calorie days 5;2 eating allows - because I honestly would just NOT keep on no matter what the cost never being able to eat more than 1350 per day. I’d constantly starve and probably go in a permanent temper tantrum.
Sigh. Just ignore me.

@ryenday: your multiple veggie and chicken bowls sound delicious as well as filling. And wow, you do get a lot of exercise! Sounds very UNFAIR that your calorie allotment is as low as it is... do please feel free to continue to kvetch! It’s a tough situation, and you sure have my sympathy. Meanwhile, think I’ll try one of those veggie chicken bowls!5
-
@ryenday Out of curiosity, what would happen if you ate the 1600 calories/day all week? I'm pretty sure I would be convicted on manslaughter on only 1350 cals/day. Then again, I am one of those who exercises a lot so I can eat a lot. It looks like ignoring you is not going to happen. We are here to help, if we can.
P.S. I agree with @Rachelmilloy on everything she said.1 -

Success/struggles of the week: Last week, I noted that I saw a current photo of myself and thought I might want to take off a few more pounds. This week, a friend of mine had a photo of me from a few years ago. Whoa. I wasn't at my heaviest in the photo, but I was on my way. Seeing this older photo reinforced my belief that maintaining my weight MUST remain a top priority in my life - forever, I think. I never want to go back to back to my previous weight and eating habits. And, speaking of my previous eating habits, my current struggle is with sugar. I just want sweets all the time lately. Usually, that means I am tired. If I can't fix this craving with extra sleep, I think I will take a few weeks away from sugar altogether. Sugar can definitely derail me.11 -

Week of 9th March: 116
Week of 16th March: 114.5
Successes/struggles of the week: Hmm, today’s weigh-in puts me technically underweight by BMI. I have been eating what I felt was a decent amount but very active. Fitbit adjustments seemed crazy (unbelievably) high though so I just didn’t worry that each day I was finishing at a largish deficit. Also expecting a quite sociable weekend so told myself I could just see it as banked calories.
But I really do need to be a bit careful. If I’m honest I still quite like the feeling of seeing a lower number on the scale because I like having a really good buffer against going to the top of my range. Think I need to do some work on mindset so that the bottom of the range is as hard a limit as the top.
Any wisdom gratefully received!11 -

Successes of the week: Another good work week, and good with food at school, but then keep losing my mind and allowing myself to keep going over at home. (Didn't even bother to rewrite last week's post since life went virtually the same. I dropped my cals a bit to leave wiggle room since I insist on licking spoons and grabbing an extra taste of this and bite of that.)
Challenges of the week: Did most of my strength workouts, but didn't always manage my time so that I could finish all my sets. Fighting that expectation of perfection in all (important to me) things whether it's exercise, eating, or the new hobby of painting. Failing to meet those expectations definitely triggers the old, “Well, I screwed up so no point in even trying now” rigid way of thinking. Stress seems to bring those patterns up, and financially I am under plenty of that.

Successes of the week: I’ve really embraced my old Paleo lifestyle this week. As a result, my cravings for crap have drastically reduced and I overall feel better/sleep better. My body doesn’t have the bloated look in the evenings anymore and my psoriasis is looking better. Anytime I complain in the future, do me a favor and tell me to go back to Paleo. It’s what works for me.
Another success in a proud wifey moment: We have a little money left over after my annual company bonus so I thought through what I wanted to do with the extra money: go on another cruise, invest in our family business, pay down credit debt, do a few home improvements, or buy some home gym equipment. I asked the DH and he said home gym ... and not just for me! He wants to use it, too! Yay!
Final success of the week: I got an unexpected care package from my family in Nebraska - Vic’s white cheddar popcorn! It’s a definite trigger food and after a long day at work, I wanted nothing more than to eat both large bags. Instead, I very generously shared about half a bag with my pups and portioned the other bag into single serve baggies - then I promptly put it all in the trunk of my SUV to avoid impulse eating. So far, so good - averaging one single snack sized ziploc bag a day! *fingers crossed*
May the luck of the Irish be with you all today!12 -

Been leaving off 1-200 calories where I can just to see if another 5lbs by summer or so will reveal the elusive abs. Not really making a project of it though, just getting on with things, if it happens it happens. I did have a pre-holiday spike in November/December up to the 140 area and slowly brought that back under control.7 -

Sigh. Just ignore me.
hi ryenday, I'm pretty close to you, I'd say in various criteria: I'm 5' 2.5", 54 years old, slow metabolism. My mom was very obese and two of my sisters have or have had issues with obesity and the other is more normal with a tendency to gain a bit like me. It's not fair. I was out for a bite with some younger people and they got breaded deep fried fish on a bed of fries. Yikes! I got fish w veggies. I am not at all here to do advertising, but I was pretty stable for years (I had been up to about 145 in my youth, which I am not comfortable, but am down close to my goal range, now. I did WW online for a couple of months and the high protein, veggies, fruit, but very low sugar, etc, works for me. I can eat unlimited soy yogurt and many other proteins. I've been surprised. I'm not into meetings, and will probably stop my membership after the 3 month minimum. Maybe it won't work for you, but it might be worth a try. or some other tricks. we are not all the same in the metabolism game, so things can be pretty unfair.2 -
Name: Andy
Height: 5' 8"
Age: 59
Total Weight lost: ~60 lbs
Time it took to lose: less than a year
How long in maintenance: a week
Maintenance weight range: at or below 164 (last weigh in 162.6) at 164, BMI = 24.9
Even though I am below my max, I am still going to eat at a slight deficit for a while to increase my range.
Bought a pair of shorts today since it will be warm soon and none of mine fit. I actually tried on 30s - buttoned and zipped. They were tighter than I like for shorts, so I got a pair of 32s. But I actually fit in the 30s. Amazing!

Success/struggles of the week:
Despite my weariness last Sunday I was out walking every day. Not to sure if the weight lost this past week is right I had to change the batteries in the scale as they were low. I tried to put the scale back in the same spot is was before. Gonna be springlike today so outdoors I will head.8
