Who eats more beans & lentils than meat?

Ive been noticing a HUGE different in my body, attitude & well-being from changing up my diet. I still consume meat, but mostly chicken never red meat. Eating more plant base is amazing. Check out the protein difference with beans/lentils to meat. You’ll start feeling fresh

I'd notice a huge difference in my attitude if I cut red meat out of my diet too.

I was a vegan for almost a decade and a half. I never felt “fresh”, whatever that means. My body actually feels a lot better since I started eating meat again, including red meat. I do eat beans and lentils, though.10

I’m entirely WFPB and feel great. But cutting dairy made a muncher bigger impact on me than cutting meat. And yes, I eat lots of beans.5

I like beans/lentils. Much cheaper then meat. I am not strictly plant based but have been trying to move in that direction.
I will be interested to see my cholesterol at my next lab draw.4 -
I like meat, and I like beans. Nothing wrong with cutting out meat, but not for health. My guess is that eating in line with your ethical values, is what you're describing as "feeling fresh".8

I eat more beans and lentils than meat -- I'm not eating meat (or dairy or eggs) during Lent, and I eat beans or lentils daily, usually multiple times.
Has it made a difference in how I feel? Not really, although I'm enjoying this way of eating.
I never found a difference between chicken vs. red meat, and typically eat more fish than either anyway (when not doing the no meat thing), and had been limiting the amount of any meat I consume for a while.
Re plant based, I think including plant sources of protein is great and a nice alternative to the idea in some circles (more rare now, but common when and where I grew up) that animal sources of protein are needed. However, I think of the most important element of plant based (vs. 100% PB or WFPB) as specifically meaning including in one's diet lots of (and a good variety of) veg and fruit, and for me personally doing that makes much more of a difference than meat or not (although that also may well be mental).7 -

But really, I can assure you that vegan and vegetarian diets have been around for centuries longer than any of us have. This isn't some sort of even kind of new discovery.4 -
I like lentils. I like steak.7

Well, I've always eaten more beans and lentils than meat because I'm not a big fan of meat. That didn't stop me from getting obese, didn't stop me from having high blood sugar, blood pressure, and bad cholesterol. Didn't stop me from getting acne, having messed up hormones, getting an anxiety disorder, wonky brain chemistry that gives me depression if I'm not careful and so on as so forth. The only thing it did for me is that I enjoy my meals because I wouldn't enjoy them as much if I needed to eat meat every day for protein.9

This is my husband,too. He's a carnivore. When we have a meatless meal you'd think 'In the arms of an angel' was playing in the background as he eats because he's so sad. He's practically a meme.
For me personally I'd say it's more important to cut down on sugar than meat. But if you feel better eating less meat then good for you.13 -
I grew up eating lentil stew with stewing beef. It was/is delicious.
4 cups broth - doesn't matter ... chicken, beef or veggie
1 lb stewing beef cut in to bite size pieces
1 onion, chopped
2 carrots, chopped
2 stalks celery chopped
1 or 2 T of olive oil
1 14oz can tomatoes
1 cup brown or green lentils
salt & pepper to taste
My mom always added a couple of Tbsp of sweet pickle juice to it and that's how I make mine.
I brown the beef and add the onion, carrots and celery and cook those down and then add the rest of the ingredients and cook for about an hour or an hour and a half.
It's better (and thicker) the next day.
I eat a lot of vegetables, fruit AND meat, chicken and fish. I feel "fresh" when my portions sizes are reasonable and not gluttonous like they used to be. I eat red meat about once or twice a week.
I don't eat a lot of legumes anymore because they give me gas but I do like them.

I think it's all in your head or as we like to call it "The placebo effect". I stand with Anvilhead on this one. With that said, if you enjoy eating vegan, there is nothing wrong, it's your personal preference. This post will hardly change the attitude of other people's preference unless they are gullible and believe what you posted is a fact.7 -

I haven't had meat for ten years, but I don't notice any particular increase in "freshness" nor did I feel "unfresh" before.3

Are we talking volumetrically or numerically? While I ate "a" steak I had a side of beans which was like 150 of the little guys (I didn't count but there was a lot of them). I do eat veggies with every meal but containing to "beans and lintels" I would say I eat more weight in meat (of all animals, I do not discriminate).
Do I notice a difference between the two? Nope. Do I notice if I don't hit my protein macro? Yes. Can I hit it with plants or animal meat? Sure. Am I now upset that I missed out on feeling "fresh" somewhere along the line when I ate my veggies? Yes.1 -

I practically live on beans, but not for ethical reasons or becouse they make me "feel fresh" i just like the taste alot. I mostly eat chicken when i eat meat becouse i think it tastes better than pork and its much cheaper than beef. I do live on a rather strict budget and i guess that ads into the fact that i eat alot of beans. I dont think ive ever eaten lentils though, but im thinking of adding it depending on the taste since it seem to have good nutritional values.0

Yes - I am vegan. I try to eat mainly whole food plant based, but have a very sweet tooth and love snacks so I’m trying to cut those out.
I feel physically and mentally much happier and healthier now than when I consumed animal products. I do think that dairy is worse for humans than meat though.5 -

Glad you found a way of eating that works for you. During my three years in vegetarian yoga retreat centers, I always felt something was missing (not in a psychological sense) during meatless meals. I met a lot of ethical vegans and applaud them. Alas, it is not for me.
I do like plant-based recipes as a base, and add meat. I'll soon be making Moosewood's Best Slit Pea Soup recipe, plus ham shanks (from Wellshire Farms, as I do care how animals are treated during their life.)

I don't eat many beans & lentils, but I eat even less meat (gave up over 20 years ago). I feel unfresh if I've eaten loads of sugar or high starch foods.0
