Has anyone tried blending coffee into protein powder???
I use optimum nutrition extreme milk chocolate protein powder so I was going to make a mocha protein frap.
I don’t feel like spending anymore money at Starbucks!

Yes! I make Herbalife shakes (I know everybody hates Herbalife.....I'm not promoting, just letting you know what I do). I just add Starbucks Via Instant Coffee into my vanilla or chocolate powder. They are delicious and come in individual packets which are handy. I haven't found a good substitute for the Starbucks. I highly recommend them for shakes/drinks.0

I put coffee in my shakes for breakfast. I use isopure vanilla and I'll blend it with coffee and cold almond milk, ice, cocoa, and stevia. It's like a healthier, not-so-sweet frappe.0

I use click mocha flavored protein powder. It is actually pretty good. I have also tried pure protein chocolate with coffee, skim milk, and ice.0

I do enjoy adding protein powder to my coffee. Usually I'll mix the powder with about half the water I normally use so it's pretty thick and then add that to my hot coffee for a quick and easy option at my desk.0

Whey will clump in hot liquids... You can use alternatives for hot drinks (I use a flavoured collagen based powder), or make iced coffee/mocha. I've been having one most mornings - coffee, water/milk, protein powder, coconut butter, ice, all blended. Yum!3

MTS expresso macchiatto mixes really well with coffee. Flavors compliment each other.0

Protein tends to be cold soluble as protein denatures at higher temps and entropic effects make it clump, so although I haven't tried it I'm picturing a lot of floaty clumps rather than a nice smooth mixture. Iced coffee might work better.3

I have it most days with a but of whipping cream. I use a whisk or a travel mug I can shake. I don't use a full serving, just a partial scoop.
And it is gross if your coffee is too hot. Yuck.0 -
I blend a little water or milk in protein powder, then blend in hot coffee to make a latte-ish joy drink. In the summer, I'll blend cold brew with protein and ice. It also works well with instant coffee. I use PEScience.1

I've never tried this but I might have to. It sounds intriguing.0

i've done it in a blender with chocolate protein powder and coffee. It came out fine and was very mocha like.0

Yeah I haven't done it in awhile but I like it when I'm cutting hard.0

I drink an iced protein coffee every morning. 6 oz. Almond cashew milk, 25 grams vanilla powder, 15 grams chocolate powder, a little Splenda. Blend, top offf with ice coffee in 26 oz travel cup. On Sundays I mix the same concoction and add it to hot coffee with no problems.

Jim Stoppanie has a protein flavour called Caramel Macchiato, that's wickedly tasty! Haven't tried adding it to anything because i am just in love with its taste. The only addition to it is unsweetend almond milk. So tasty!0

Yes! I sometimes include coffee in my recovery shakes. So good0

put some ice cubes in the jar before you dump in the coffee and blend it. Those whey clumps have the nastiest texture.

This is a common quick breakfast or afternoon snack for me. In a blender bottle:
1 c coffee (w/ ice if it’s still warm)
1 c whole milk
1 scoop Vega protein & greens
1 tbsp Benefiber0 -
Hot coffee with protein powder is despicable. Make your coffee the night before and chill it, then blend in powder, ice, almond milk or whatever you like.0

Why is it despicable? I usually drink it cold but I drink it hot too. Always hot on Sundays. I blend the milk and protein and then mix it with hot coffee. It's fine. Tastes the same, just hot. I don't understand this.0 -
I heard the only issue with blending protein powder with a hot drink is that it forces the bonds to tighten within the protein making the body work a little harder and a little longer to break down... I don't know this for fact but surely if its true, not necessarily a bad thing... I blend protein with hot coffee0

Not quite true. Whey protein in a hot drink would denature. Unraveling the folded structure exposing hydrophobic elements in a way that a cage of water would form around them and drive the proteins together into larger and larger clumps of aggregate that would precipitate out of solution. This would mean it would be basically impossible to solubilize the protein in a hot drink, you'd just end up with clumps and if you blended it you'd just end up with smaller clumps that would grow over time to larger clumps.
That said the "bonds" aren't any stronger and I don't see why you'd have any issue digesting it really. When it your stomach its going to be in a pH 2 environment with enzymes specifically designed to break apart proteins so its going to get ripped apart pretty quick. Maybe because it is clumped it will shield the inner part of the clump until the outer part gets dissolved but I don't think that is going to make a real difference in your ability to eventually process it and get the same amount out.
I'd just avoid it because whey clumps taste like clay.1 -
My kids asked me why I don't do this in the spring and summer when I make a Starbucks knock off thingy.
Before I train on Sundays, I drink a protein shake. After I come home and Brunch, I make a cold coffee thingy with frozen yogurt and licquor. I guess I could add more protein powder ... I feel like once is enough though. Of course I'm eating yogurt twice a day ....0 -
Not ruining a good cup of coffee with whey...
The stuff I drink is too good and too expensive to be messing around putting whey in it.0 -
I mix my milk & Click Mocha in a shaker, then pour in the hot coffee. Drink a little, then add more hot coffee. I found it got lumpy if I mixed it directly into the hot coffee.0

You have to temper it, but it works beautifully.0
