Hi.... I'm just wondering how accurate everyone is when it comes to tracking their veggies??

i do my best guesstimate. I dont have time to weigh and do all that other stuff. not enough time in the day for that lol6

Vegetables have calories -- I use the same standards for tracking them as I do for other foods.21
-
It depends. If I get veggies on a deli sandwich I usually don’t log them, and I’m pretty blasé about anything on a salad that isn’t meat, cheese, or dressing. That said, I do try and log everything when it’s convenient, as much to see how I’m doing nutritionally than out of any calorie concern.2
-
Yes, not just for the calories but also because I'm tracking fiber.4
-
When I started out I was weighing and logging everything pretty accurately, now I've a pretty good idea when it comes to most things that I don't weigh stuff except pasta and cereal, because I can eyeball the portions pretty well.
If it's low calorie items like green veg, it's not going to make too much difference unless you are very close to goal weight, however, if you find that you aren't losing as expected then you would want to knuckle down on logging them.2 -
Yes. I eat a crap-ton of veggies daily and the calories add up. I weigh and record them.
If it was just lettuce on a sammy or a dill pickle spear, i might not bother.4 -
I do, for the calories and fiber.2
-
Most of the time I log vegetables, especially since I love green peppers and will eat a whole one with lunch, but if I just throw a few spinach leaves on my sandwich then no.2
-
yep.1
-
I count my veggies and the fat that I cook/dip them in.1
-
When I logged, I wasn't as anal about it as I was with more calorie dense foods, but yes...I loosely tracked them.3
-
When I was losing, I did weigh and log everything except leafy veggies which I logged by cup (eyeballing).
Now that I'm in maintenance, I still log them because I track fiber and also because I'm trying to increase my servings of veggies. But I only weigh them if I've got the bowl on the scale anyway, except for root veggies and avocados which can be calorie dense so always get weighed.1 -
Yes, I weigh everything apart from water1

High five, whole green pepper eating buddy! I felt vaguely bad for ages because green and red peppers are my favorite veggies and I figured I should be eating kale and broccoli instead - I figured peppers were probably just water and crunch. Then I actually looked up how many awesome micro nutrients were in them and now I don’t feel bad at all.

I track their phone, I caught them down at the local bar on somebody else's burger.7
-
4/5 portions of veg a day soon adds up to 200/300 calories so yes I log them all.3
-
I track all my veggies; I'm more careful with some vs others. For example I will weigh a side portion of broccoli but if I'm putting 1/2 a piece of romaine on my burger i don't bother. I *have* created a recipe called "burger toppings" because onions, pickles, lettuce, tomato, hot pepper rings add up to about 60 cals. Rather than log a tedious amount of vegetables over and over I create the recipe so it's a simple add.6

I track all.my vegetables because have to monitor certain nutrients and overall carb intake.1

I track most of my vegetables, but I tend to eat huge portions of vegetables and they make up a good 75% of most of my meals. I'm not terribly meticulous about it though, I tend to track by cups as opposed to weight, especially when it comes to greens.0

I am so glad there is someone else out there who does this! My office mate says it is gross since I just cut the pepper in half, take out the middle then go to town! lol They have been my favorite raw veggie since I was a kid, no dressing needed!

I track my veggies loosely, I use approximate amounts because I don't usually weigh out my veggies. But I want to have some idea of how many calories/other nutrients I'm consuming with my veggie intake, so I do try to get it in the log.1
-
I log them, but I almost always just eyeball the portions. I’m on the keto diet, so I have a failsafe: as long as I stay in ketosis I have confirmation that I haven’t been underestimating too badly.1
-
I log all but sandwich toppings.1
-
I'm tracking iron, so I do my best to track veggies. That being said, if I'm at a social gathering, snacking on raw veggies or they're in a sandwich, so long as they're non-starchy, I don't worry too much about them.0
-
The only veggie I don't weigh is iceberg lettuce. I weigh everything else.0
-
Certainly I track veggies for calories. I also aim for the recommended 10 servings a day when possible.3

Thanks for the input you guys...
Mrsnattybulk.. Thanks for the idea of creating Hamburger/Sandwich fixings. That idea makes my life a bit easier2 -
To the gram.1

Yes, I do. That is, on days I do log I log my veggies.1
