Bloating after eating anything

Since last Monday (3/12/18) I will wake up in the morning feeling totally fine, stomach is normal but then as soon as I at breakfast I am instantly bloated (maybe 5-10 minutes after) and I stay bloated all day, wake up the next morning fine, then the cycle repeats. I have not changed my diet and I have eaten oatmeal for breakfast everyday for the past year or so (I know that sounds boring but I really enjoy it) so it is not that. My fiber intake has remained the same, it is not near my TOM, I drink enough water, I never go over on sodium, and I have not started any new supplements or vitamins. I am at a loss, I am getting so bloated I can hardly button my pants. It would not big a big deal if it was just a day or two but this has been happening everyday for over a week now. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

I know you like oatmeal in the morning, but I would try eating something like fruit or eggs in the morning for a couple of days and see if that makes a difference.3

I had thought of that but I have eaten oatmeal everyday for about a year now and never had this problem, and the bloating lasts all day, it doesn't go away after breakfast.2

A week of bloating? And you have changed nothing? You mean like gassy? Maybe you have a mild case of the stomach flu?1

did you buy a different brand of oatmeal or anything like that? dietary issues can arise at anytime even after eating the same food for an extended period of time1

TMI coming your way, yes I have been rather gassy and it has smelled super unpleasant, way more then it should. I have tried taking gasX a few days but that didn't seem to help and it only starts after eating. I have not had any unusual poop habits.1 -
Sounds like an allergy or food intolerance. Change up foods you are eating and see how that goes.1

Do you eat yogurt or anything with probiotics?2

Nope, same brand I always buy. Maybe they changed something in the brand I buy? I mean the only ingredient listed is "rolled Oats" so they didn't add anything or take anything out but maybe how they are processing it is different? I just don't understand why it lasts all day. If it is the oats can oats take that long to digest?

Yeah I should probably try switching up the oatmeal at least. I love it but @deannalfisher said an allergy can come on at any time so I guess after a year of eating them I may have developed one.2 -

I have eaten yogurt everyday for as long as I can remember as part of my lunch, same brand (I know I am super boring with my food choices lol).0 -
Sorry. One last question. Have you been on a round of antibiotics? They can sometimes mess up your gut.1
-
If you are intolerant to a food can it affect you all day? I did a quick google search and oatmeal takes anywhere from 1-2 hours to digest 9depending on which website you go with) but I am bloated all day.1

Are you preparing the oats in milk? Toss the container and buy a new one?0

No I am lactose intolerant so I prepare them in water then add some peanut butter and fruit.0 -
Try adding a probiotic in the morning or taking one at night. I tend to bloat a lot throughout the day and adding probiotics helps a lot0

I have tried those in the past (4 different brands) for IBS, which is mostly under control now and they all gave my liquid diarrhea. I suppose it could be something with the IBS but I have no other symptoms of a flare up and trust me I would know if I did.0 -

I am intolerant to soft cheese or too much heavy cream - I bloat bad and get a sore stomach from too much of those and it lasts around 8 hrs - I hear ya, its uncomfortable. Try an alternative to the milk in those oats, its likely the dairy that's the issue.4 -

I am not adding milk to my oats, I make them with water, but good to know that an allergy can affect you all day.1 -

Don't feel like I'm advertising this at all but I found that Plexus Probiotics has helped me tremendously. I was on it for a couple of months just to clean out my gut and it really helped. Try looking into it

When I get bloated it lasts a couple of days, even though I've never been tested I'm pretty sure I have a gluten and dairy intolerance, I still eat them both just at a minimum, but I wasn't always like this it seems to start after I lost most of my weight. I just messed around with different food to see what caused to bloat maybe try leaving off the oats and yogurt to see what happens.
You can develop allergies you've never had before specifically lactose intolerance, maybe you should get tested.2 -

Could you be constipated?

I am thinking it wouldn't hurt to see your doctor about the bloating.3

Nope, I went multiple times yesterday and have already gone once today.1 -
I'm not a doctor but I think I'm right in saying that you can develop an allergy at any time of life.
Why don't you try not eating oatmeal for a few days and see what happens?0 -
I’m probably going to get woo for this, but this used to happen to me too. After some trial and error I found that eliminating wheat and dairy from my diet solved the problem.5

Try brown rice for a break. It doesn't ferment in your gut. It is a low residue food. Maybe try the brat diet.
I think though you should see your doctor since the bloating is recent onset.2 -
I appreciate all of your replies! This is why MFP is so great, many things were presented to me I did not think of. I will try eliminating oatmeal for the rest of the week at least. I will start there and see how things progress, if that doesn't help I think a trip to my doctor will be in order. Now the question is what have for breakfast? I don't really like eggs and am not a big meat eater, I LOVE peanut butter for breakfast, maybe a good ole PB&J sandwich? If anyone has any other ideas I would love to hear them!4

It may be time for you to seek proper medical advice because its in excess of two weeks you've been feeling this way.
With your past history of IBS you could try digestive microbes rather than the prebiotics. I think prebiotics feed the microbes you have. You may have developed an imbalance for some reason which could be associated with a different presentation of your IBS microbes could help. If you can, find something simple not full of flavours and the like because these can be off putting. Some microbes are inclined to make histamine which I think could cause bloating. I needed to avoid these species. Doing a search histamine free or similar should reveal some good products though I cling to one.
Thinking of allergies and intolerances. Some who react to glutein take 6 months and more of total elimination before they achieve any relief and with one slip they can wait the 6 months and more to feel well again. It is possible the oats you now have may have been milled in a mill which also grinds wheat. Oats are not supposed to be as reactive as wheat but contamination could do it.2 -
Have any life stressors recently arisen? Especially things that might be happening that you don't really want to go along with but you're doing it anyway, to be a good person or not cause conflict? The mind/body connection can been incredibly strong, swift, and create intense physical distress, pain, and systemic dysfunction, with the gut being the first line of communication. Tons of neural cells in the gut itself, communicating directly with the deepest parts of the brain, which is where our inner wants and needs are communicated from (vs. the frontal cortex, our thinking/planning mind that is almost entirely conditioned by parents/upbringing/societal rules and tells us how we ought to behave in order to keep the approval/love of others).
The stuff that is most likely to do that are behaviors and thoughts that you are keeping out of your full awareness, so it can be a bit tricky to feel/notice what might have just changed or come up for yourself (and that's why the deeper mind has to get so loud with body symptoms, because by the time we get to adulthood we are deeply conditioned to behave in ways that are counter to our own needs and desires in order to please others).
Are you making yourself do something or accept someone else's actions or opinions and not even letting yourself see that (usually because you believe you have to accept something to fulfill a role that you impose on yourself or because you fear the other will stop approving of you?)10
