What does “Woo” mean?

So I have been clicking woo on people’s comments when I want to cheer them on. To me woo = Woo! Aka Woo Hoo!
However, when I look closely at the Woo icon, the face looks more like he’s going to barf, perhaps as in “I’m ‘woo’zy”. Also some people complain about others wooing them. And I rarely see the Woo being used on posts that I think deserve a cheerful woo!
So what does Woo mean?

I've always used it as a positive but people get all bent out of shape over it. Now I may just purposely use it to annoy someone just because I know it does.

Technically, it's a disagree or nonsense reaction (as opposed to the others which are positive). But I'm not sure how many people realize that, so it gets used both ways.8

The woo face kinda looks like a WHOA face. Or a drunk face.

Woo, also called woo-woo, is a term for pseudoscientific explanations that share certain common characteristics, often being too good to be true (aside from being unscientific). The term is common among skeptical writers. Woo is understood specifically as dressing itself in the trappings of science (but not the substance) while involving unscientific concepts, such as anecdotal evidence and sciencey-sounding words.
Woo is usually not the description of an effect but of the explanation as to why the effect occurs. For example: "Homeopathy is effective (even when no molecule of the active ingredient remains in the final product) because the solution retains a memory of the solute."—the explanation for these results, e.g. water memory, is woo.
Woo is used to blind or distract an audience from a real explanation or to discourage people from delving deeper into the subject to find a more realistic explanation. You can't make money if nobody buys your *kitten*. (As such, "woo" that has zero paying customers is more like just ordinary batshit crazy.)
Despite the terrible name, it has become quite a popular term within the skeptical movement—probably because it's fun to say.

LOL, it does look a little sea-sick doesn't it;) I guess having a LOL icon might not be a good thing, but I love to laugh "with" people;)

It's a double entendre kind of thing. If you woo someone it can mean whatever you want but that's true the other way around too. So the wooer know what kind of woo it was, but the wooey will never know causing anxiety and doubt and a whole lot of WTH kind of moments.
In that sense it works perfectly for chit chat!9 -

I've woo'd in past thinking it was a good thing. Then there was the woo kerfuffle and subsequent reconciliation and redefining the woo. I'm not sure what to mske if it. And, I've collected a few woos alomg the way. And remember nothing is either good or bad, only thinking makes it so. Wooooooooo......!!2

99% of the time I find the woo means someone is easily offended, has no sense of humor, or isn't smart enough to consider opinions different than theirs. Sometimes, it is that someone actually isn't funny, is offensive, or has a hateful or useless opinion.5

I always thought it was positive as well until I saw some people on here saying it was negative. In fact MFP is the only place where I've seen it referred to as not positive. Possibly the MFP programmers are confused.1
