I suck at maintenance

Ahh, but see you are relying on your brain not your stomach to tell you to eat.
Only problem there is starting to justify improper eating.
You may reach the day of having hard workouts that leave you not so hungry, or so thirsty that wipes out the hunger.
But you know with your brain that if you don't eat something, your workout tomorrow is going to suck.
So despite not feeling hungry by what stomach tells you, you know you need to eat something.
Or conversely you have a meal and 3 hrs later feel hungry, but brain examines the meal and you realize the quick carbs were eaten first and merely caused insulin spike and then low blood sugar is all, you had enough - so you drink some water or low calorie filler something.
That only problem is exactly what I worry about. I need to eat more well rounded meals. I already "bargain", having a salad with chicken for lunch and leaving lots of snack calories to eat candy. I know - IIFYM and it sort of does except I blow through the recommended sugar every day. But so far I have not justified going over limit by more than a handful of calories and I haven't cheated. As long as I stay disciplined enough to do that, I don't have to worry so much about the improper eating.2 -

So I will forge on and see if it stays here or trends in one direction or another. Last night did bother me; I was coming up short and really wasn't hungry but I ate some walnuts and raisins anyway since they are fairly calorie dense so it didn't require much and I like walnuts and raisins. But eating something I like when I am not really hungry is a behavior I don't want to allow myself anymore.
Not sure if this will help you but - perhaps draw a distinction between eating that helps you reach your goals and eating that doesn't help you?
Having a snack when you've eaten enough but you're bored or anxious doesn't help you reach your goals.
Having a snack because you have calories left and your body needs a certain amount of calories to fuel maintenance does help you reach your goals.11 -
