Muscle ?

I’ve been lifting more or at least trying to and I’ve seen an increase in scale weight. How would I know if this is muscle/ water/ or fat? Is there a simple way to tell?

You can calculate your body fat percentage and keep track of it and it will let you know. Or better yet have your doctor do it4

Are you eating at a deficit? then its probably not fat. Did you just start lifting? its probably water. I doubt its muscle unless you are on a muscle building diet and program. A simple way is t just look in the mirror or notice how your clothes fit2 -
Probably unlikely that its muscle. But if you just started to lift, than its likely water weight.
What kind of lifting program are you following?4 -

if you just started lifting, its probably water retention - gaining muscle while in a deficit it hard to do4

Are you eating in a deficit or a surplus?
No way to tell by this post, sorry.0 -
More info needed. How long have you been lifting? Are you eating in a surplus? What are your goals?
Most likely water retention unless you upped your calories.

Likely, its water retention.. how much weight are you up? And what are your total calories?1

As bad as what? If you're going to ask a question rather than research for yourself, provide details.1 -
What do you consider to be a "bunch of pounds?"
Are you using a food scale (vs. eyeballing or using measuring cups) to verify that you are eating in a deficit?
It's not likely muscle in a couple of months.
