    Starting to jog from fast-walking is tough. And most of my runner friends have had injuries - minor to major. Major involving pain and months of PT. So I'd say, just be cautious. Get good shoes. In my completely anecdotal experience, a lot of knee injuries come from bad form, and a lot of bad form comes from foot problems like flat feet. (My flat feet mean that when I stand with my feet parallel, my knees point inward.)
