Not lift things. Lose muscle. Bad.
This is true for someone wanting to keep their weight the same and maintaining but if you're looking to lose weight, do lots of cardio. You can still do weights but focus more on cardio until you get where you want to be, then you can focus on weights more. Cardio will burn way more calories then weights but weights burn more fat. And you will not LOSE muscle by doing cardio but you won't really gain any muscle. Been running avidly for 10 years 5-6 days a week and only do weights twice a week and have NEVER LOST muscle. Good luck to you.
You can lose weight with zero cardio. And you lose muscle while losing weight regardless...lifting just helps preserve as much of it as possible.
Bottom line: do a combination for health reasons6 -
Both are good for different health reasons. Already mentioned so I don't have to repeat the sentiment. However, I will make a counter statement. If you are on a weight cut most people don't simply don't want to lose weight. They specifically want to lose fat. The best way to do this is with a calorie deficit, weight training and high protein combo. Too much cardio can actually be detrimental on a cut, because it can cause you lose muscle mass. And you end up just shrinking instead of recomping your fat to muscle ratio. My opinion is that high intensity strength training combined with low intensity cardio is the best blend for people who trying lower their bf%. OTOH if you simply want to lose weight nothing beats cardio. Obviously diet is more important than anything when it comes to losing or gaining weight.5

I'm curious how that works. Calorie deficit of X with CV work and calorie deficit of X without the same CV work. Assuming identical resistance work, would that really lead to muscle loss?3
