Diet Drink Recommendations

Maybe not the best thing for you because they contain aspartame, but I occasionally imbibe in flavored carbonated water that my grocery store carries, I like the Cherry flavor the best. Otherwise I just drink water or unsweetened iced tea.12

I tend to cycle between caffeine-free Diet Coke and the fruity seltzers. We also keep diet root beer and diet orange in the house, both of which are caffeine-free.
Re: Vodka. Flavored vodkas like green apple or lime are surprising good in Diet Coke. Well, surprising to me. I’m new to mixed drinks.1 -

I did, twice, and still recommend water. I think artificial sweeteners are nasty and soda overpriced. That's my personal preference - other peeps' own preferences may not help you at all, as I have found out from all the Halo Top threads.
Then why respond to my post as you have nothing helpful to add? I respect your personal preferences, but they're simply not applicable here.14 -

You must not have, because the OP said:So I'm looking for some suggestions for tasty low calorie "diet" sodas that are artificially sweetened as I'm particularly looking for the sweetness that are also caffeine free?
Water isn’t an artificially sweetened diet soda, so it isn’t a helpful answer.
A lot of stores carry generic diet sodas in lots of flavours, lemonade (carbonated), orange, root beer, ginger ale, caffeine free cola, and more. It’s actually pretty easy to find caffeine free diet soda.
I thought I was pretty clear in my OP what I was looking for. I wasn't asking for opinions on whether peopled liked diet soda or if I should just drink water instead. People are weird...
I didn't think about a store brand. I remember when I was a kid one of my favorites was RC Cola. I haven't thought about that in years. Thanks for the inspiration. You've got me thinking bigger now and that's what I was looking for.4 -
Sprite zero is my absolute favorite. Diet coke is a close second but I swear the sprite zero almost doesn't taste like a diet drink it's amazing. Also the ice drinks are really good as well, they are like flavored waters but are very good!
I understand about Sprite. When I was a kid I absolutely loved it. Then I got quite sick with a stomach virus and my mom gave me Sprite to try and keep me hydrated until the virus passed. To this day the taste of it makes me feel just a bit queezy. It's a shame, but there you have it.0 -

Thanks. But I actually went to school for nutrition and I'm going to go with what I learned there and actual scientific studies that I've read over some random post on a message board.
That said, I do sometimes stick with the devil I know, but it's not a daily dietary choice that I choose to make.

I'm not going to take over the OP with a sidebar on the dangers of aspartame and other artificial sweeteners. For every study that that gentleman and others in the post linked, I'd guarantee there is another one out there to contradict it. If you care to learn more, you are free to google or pick up a scientific journal on your own. I have formulated an opinion all on my own by researching and I don't need to justify or prove it to anyone else.

However, I am pretty sensitive to caffeine and if I drink it after noon or so, it tends to keep me up and I get the shakes if I get more than about 1 coffee and 2 sodas cans per day.
So I'm looking for some suggestions for tasty low calorie "diet" sodas that are artificially sweetened as I'm particularly looking for the sweetness that are also caffeine free? Maybe something along the lines of Coke Zero in terms of flavor though I'd give fruity flavors a try as well.
For whatever reason I don't seem to be particularly fond of Diet Coke, but it's possible it's a mindset thing as it's been around forever and the ingredient list looks an awful lot like Coke Zero. Call me weird...
What's your favorites?
I must be weird as well, I don't care much for Diet Coke either, I prefer diet Pepsi.
Have you tried the water flavor packets? There are tons of flavors. My favorite is raspberry lemonade. I think there is about 2 calories per serving.

I'm the OP and would like to get some of the "sciency" folks on here to respond to these links and maybe break them down for us. I'm not the least bit concerned about artificial sweeteners, but some others might read this thread and be confused.
On another note, I always find it interesting that someone will comment on a thread with a completely inappropriate and frankly rude response and then when called out on it refuse to engage in discussing the merits or accuracy of their statement.
They want to impose their views on others, but don't actually want to go out on a limb and defend their assertions when challenged to do so.
It always ends up feeling like a superiority thing to me (I'm better because I don't do this stuff like you do), which isn't helpful at all. And why hang out in a community you fundamentally disagree with? That would be like an atheist standing in the parking lot of a church and telling everyone walking out what they're doing wrong. It's just weird...11 -

You asked for links, and I posted links. For every study that shows that aspartame is not harmful, there is another one out there that shows it is. Look, I clearly have very different beliefs than the majority of this board. I've gone to school and researched a lot of things on my own and make decisions for myself and my clients based on that. I learned a long time ago to not post anything contradictory on this board, and I need to go back to that. Bottom line is that every one needs to make a decision for themselves, I'll stick to helping the people the people who actually seek me out.

If you're sensitive to caffeine I would suggest sticking with Coke Zero as Diet Coke's (regular, not caffeine-free version) has a higher dosage level.
I tend to stick to Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi! I enjoy sparkling water too-- you can add different flavors to it0 -

First one: "Although these observational data cannot establish causality..." So, no actual science stating that it's bad.
Second one: "But most human studies involving artificial sweeteners haven't found comparable changes." That's because they performed a very specific test, on very obese (42+ average BMI). So, it's one study that shows that something may be going on. Yet it doesn't necessarily mean anything bad - as the researchers acknowledged.
Third one: Rat study. 'Nuff said.
Translation: still no science stating that they're actually bad for you.13 -
