    I will never understand the appeal in purchasing property which is governed under HOA, always having people telling me what I can & can't do with what is mine.

    It's the same with any other house or anything that involves money. Just not as strict because there's the group is bigger

    True. Even if your property isn't governed under HOA you still owe property taxes on it. If you don't pay, you risk losing your property. Buuuut.. at least the government doesn't nit-pick about what height your fence can be, if you can even have a fence, etc..
