I'm about 4 or 5 pounds off my goal weight and want to start building muscle.

I'm 27 and 4 foot 11 and a 110 pounds female. My goal is to get to around 105 pounds and hopefully start building my glutes, but I'm just unsure where to go.. should I get to my goal weight and start eating more or to build my glutes or is it possible for me to build muscle and lose fat at the same time.

I've been lifting weights for around 18 months now, I have seen my body become a lot leaner but I still have a bit of fat to lose. I just don't know what to do?

You have a few options. You can recomp, so eat at maintenance to build muscle and lose fat over time. Muscle growth will be slow as will fat loss. So this option can take many months, even years. But it is possible. Patience and consistency will be key.

Or you can continue to lose. Unfortunately you won't be building very much in a deficit, but you can preserve what glutes you have and shape them. Then you can think about bulking if that is an option. Keep in mind this is also a very slow process... cut.. bulk... cut again.. you are looking at many months or years as well.

    What program are you following?

It is great you have seen results over 18 months, maybe just keep doing what you are doing.

Thanks for your reply :) I just follow my own routine really and just watch videos and copy. Could I still get good glutes whilst dieting then?

First thing I would do is follow a progressive routine. Here are some options in this thread. Strong Curves is a good one if your goals are glute related

In terms of results in a deficit, it really depends on what you are working with. If you have a good muscle base you will see the muscle pop as you lose. But building muscle in a deficit while not impossible it usually happens for beginners, obese or those returning to lifting after hiatus. It is usually not very visually significant to actually see large amounts of growth. But the muscles will start to show more so your shape can improve. If that makes sense.

I would continue doing what you are doing now since you have seen good results and see how you feel about your glutes once you reach goal weight. Like Sardelsa said, as you get leaner, your booty may pop more. Then you can choose to either maintain and recomp or do bulk/cut cycles.
