For some reason you object to a Ketogenic diet being healthful? I'm not saying that it is the only way to gain better health, nor did I say it was the best way. It Is a diet that can lead to better health for people with insulin resistance (diabetes, prediabetes, PCOS, NAFLD and Alzheimer's, as well as the associated CVD) and it can help some with treating some chronic health problems like some autoimmune issues, epilepsy, brain injury, etc. That's not just opinion.
When people are healthy, it helps with weight management. Thats been seen to be true too.

It can work the other way around too. I did not say it could not.
So the “some” people who might experience better health as a result of the diet are those who have Insulun Resistance. Why not mention that detail when you say “often leads to health improvements for those who are IR. By leaving off this important detail it suggests to people like the OP, or anyone who is considering the diet for weight loss because of all the hype they hear IRL, that they will experience it. The OP mentioned nothing of a medical condition that suggests low carb may provide benefits to that condition - but the vague and sweeping generalization of “often better health” sounds tempting for anyone.
Again, it is the unproven claims of miracle cures, vague “better health” and the suggestion that keto/IR negates the news for a calorie deficit that will always get challenged. It just doesn’t do the keto community who do have legit reasons and good success with the diet a favor when the overzealous claims imply benefits that won’t happen, and will invite challenges from those who know this is an overstatement.

I’ve been doing the cabbage soup diet and it’s been GREAT for me! Although it’s not exactly a long term type of diet and I’m looking for a lifestyle change something that I can really commit to!

I do indeed follow Keto. And, I love it. I do this, for full disclosure, because of high A1C. I love carbs...really do...but they are not so kind to this guy!
I will suggest this, though. It is not the diet - no matter what it is called - that creates weight loss. It is eating in a caloric deficit. Plain and simple. All of the "diet" stuff is simple a way to help you to maintain your caloric deficit. So, I would suggest that you find something that works for you....point blank and period.
Now, I must be doing something wrong because I eat at least three salads a day. I just put on some amazing and fatty salad dressing (think blue cheese or sweet idalia onion or whatever) and go to town. I will also out some New York Sharp Cheddar Cheese on it, some boiled eggs on it...some sliced boiled eggs on it...
And, I do eat veggies. Usually, when I do have "veggies" I will eat brocholli or asparagus. I do not eat veggies every day....but likely five out of seven days.
The thing about Keto that is so difficult (let's be honest....cutting down to 20g of Carbs a day *CAN* be tough) is that it is so restrictive. It is possible to consume - depending on the type of Keto that you are following (there are - and I believe that most people would agree with this - four types of Keto....when most people talk about Keto, per - se, then they are likely talking about the Standard Ketogenic Diet. That is the 20g of Carbs...roughly....or, 75% of your calories come from Fats, 20% come from Protein and that 5% come from Carbs).
I might suggest that you - as I have said a few times in this post - find what works for you. This is all about sustainability. This is all about compliance. This is all about "healthy". I mean, if you can follow a way of eating that you absolutely HATE but you force yourself to follow that way of eating because it works then I would suggest that eventually you will "fail" and that what you have been doing was unhealthy.

Thank you, lady! There is a lot of "interesting ideas" out there about Keto. When I started investigating this, because of the high A1C, I was overwhelmed with tons and tons of absolutely garbage information. Of course, when you know absolutely nothing about a given topic it is really challenging to determine what is valid information and what is "a sales pitch". I find - and this applies to just about everything out there....we just happen to be talking about Keto - that there are a lot of people out there with an Agenda. I like to follow the "follow the money" train of thought. It helped me to filter out that "garbage information".
I try to be open and honest and share my experiences and to paint a little bit of a picture about myself. I am "off"....in that I can eat the same food for lunch (for example) every day of the year. Pretty sure that most can not do that. I can. That might be useful information about me....and provide some insight into the info that I am providing.
Anyway, I also try to stay out of the "discussions" about Keto. General comment. There are a ton of ignorant people out there (notice that I did not say "stupid"....ignorant is totally different) and a lot of really smart people out there. Sometimes it is a challenge to make the distinction. My daddy taught me something really important a long time ago: Don't ever argue with a fool....people will eventually not be able to distinguish who the fool is.
Anyway, I hope that this helps. Keto is amazing - for me. But, it is really restrictive. And, it is not a magic pill. That does not exist. No matter what anyone says (remember, "follow the money"). Enjoy! I am going to go eay some bacon and eggs now! All this talk about Keto has made my mouth water! :-)4 -

Finding a "lifestyle" is not a single choice you commit to, it's a process of trial and error and investigation to find which eating practices you find pleasant and sustainable. Keep in mind that your results will likely be slower than on any crash diet you've been on, which is a good thing, because you want to lose weight in a healthy sustainable way. Here is a good "diet" to try for starters, after which you may feel more confident to customize things to your liking.

There is nothing in there known to be false. Keto is just as effective as a higher carb diet for weight loss and it can improve health for some people.
I later added that it is not the best or the only way to lose weight or gain health. That's pretty noncommittal. No promises of magic or regrown limbs. I provided information so the OP could make up their own mind. I believe I said vegetarian keto is tougher. Some members just seem to like to pick at replies that are not pro-moderation. It's information hidden on keto is why I cringe when it comes to the keto movement and diets in general. A lot of people join that diet based on partial information (like in this case) or just wrong information and it's too bad. Too much importance is given to diets which is why I follow no diet in particular other than eating a balanced diet that hits my macros, fiber goal and micronutrients. Specific diets (like keto, paleo, atkins..) is only if you struggle with discipline or have health issues, then they can be usefull to help you acheive your goal. In the end, calories is king.7 -

Or epilepsy or some autoimmune diseases or some with IBS or some with migraines or some with developmental delays. Not just IR. It can help some people with some health problems even if it is just with reduced appetite to help with weight management if weight loss helps their health. Other diets can help too. They may even help more. I'm not making any grand claims here. Just offering information on the possible benefits, as
These claims are not unusual, nor guaranteed, and many are proven in trials, but I'm not bothering to search for them for you.
The OP asked for the success stories. I said what it could help with, gave info on the diet and then added that it would be tough. I'm going to assume the OP is a grown up who will look into the information given and decide what is best for her. You too can offer information, or more of your opinion, and the OP can use what info you offer as well.

But you didn't say for some people. You said for many. Big difference. I wouldn't have picked up on it if you said some. Many gives the impression of wide spread benefits for the general population. It is a false impression without more specifics as to who the "many" are and why it helps them.
It comes across and confirmation bias propaganda. Not just to me. You've gotten fairly consistent and widespread pushback about that. It appears you can't see through your bias to recognize that.
So, as far as you can demonstrate, keto can improve health for some not many. And I will again invite you to submit proof sources if you disagree with that.9 -

Where? I went back through my replies and I can't see your semantics argument's basis.
The only place I saw that I typed the word "many" was when I was discussing health benefits being tested. Not with regards to some people being helped when using keto as a tool, which is what I wrote. I'm sure you will correct me if I'm mistaken.
My bad. You never said many. You said "often" instead of "sometimes". So, the implication is many. That is where my mind went when you used the word "often" when referring to health improvements ascribed to keto diets. I'm guessing I'm not alone in that.4 -

For weight loss, the main benefits are usually a decreased appetite and often better health (which tends to make weight management easier). A calorie deficit is still needed for weight loss.12 -

@chelseamj91 Keto has been my way of eating since Oct 2014. While I did not do it to lose weight but to try and reverse some very serious health issues yet without trying to lose weight it was just a side effect of just only eating to manage my joint and muscle pain. I am down 50 pounds and have maintained that loss for the past three years eating all I want. As my serious health issues slowly resolved so did my weight. Key in my case Keto seems to have resolved my strong cravings that lead to binging.
Now at age 67 with better health and health markers than 30 years ago I plan to eat the Keto/LCHF way the rest of my life because it works so well for me.
Hope you find a WOE that works well for you. Work to find the Way Of Eating that works for your body more than what others do or say.

Cool! I lost the 8kg I wanted to lose, and then some 8 more and maintained it while being on a diet high in carbs. I would not have managed keto as I love my carbs, and fats don't still my hunger well. So yes, we're all different.
Which makes me wonder if there's some actual research into what macro works best for which percentage of the population with regards to energy, satiety, etc.
@yirara I have been looking at different macros for a few years and am medically speaking certain there is NO one mix of carbs, protein and fats of that is universal for the human race. I have fallen back on research like this below from Harvard.

In the summer of 2014 at the age of 63 I realized I was going to die in front of our 16 year old kids sooner than later. Since genetically they are at risk of developing Ankylosing Spondylitis like I have lived with for 40 years I knew I had to find a Way Of Eating that could at least lower the their risk of developing AS themselves. They were helping me get in and out of cars and even dress some days wondering if that was the future they should expect.
For the prior 40 years I had been great at losing weight many times but even better at regaining it after each loss.
The more I read how most diseased states can be related to what we eat I started to make changes by leaving off foods that are medically known to lead to different disease states. As you can read in the Harvard article above the first group of foods they have connected with increased health risks today is Refined Carbs.
After failing to be able to change my WOE from mainly refined carbs over the summer of 2014 I was about to give up on regaining my health or even just to stop my fast rate of health decline. It was just 30 days before I was to start Enbrel injections for pain management that I set in on a class my friend teaches about abuse recovery. The part on Denial hit me like a 2x4 over my head. I mean like in 30 seconds I saw that my health failure was related to me being a Carb addict.
It was hellish for the first two weeks for me and the family I went off of any food/drink that contained any form of sugar and or any form of grain. While I wish I had done it 40 years earlier in my case nevertheless I keep my doctor's appointment and my pain level was dropping nicely just 30 days in so I was able to stay off of all Rx meds for about 4 years and now my health and health markers continues to improve at the age of 67.
While I had decided to never ever again to diet to lose weight the weight did drop without a goal to lose weight and that 50 pounds has stayed for the past three years on my current WOE.
Where to do Keto or not (keeping carbs under 50 grams most days) is a personal choice. As you have read in this thread no one as offered hard science as to why to not do keto but like me many state they are too attached to eating high carb to ever keep daily carbs at 50 grams. I said the same until I knew I was dying from my past 40 year Way Of Eating.
Actually keto was an 'accident' in my case. I was just making changes like in the Harvard article and evolved into a Keto or Low Carb High Fat way of eating just for pain management because it was working so well for my well being. Moving forward in hard times can lead to positive 'accidents' is my personal experience.

Lol give me a break .I haven't been trolled this much, for so little, in a while. This is partially why I don't bother to post studies - it's often not good enough unless it shows something else is the same or better than ketosis.LOL
The study showed it DID help children with autism, and not that it MAY help children with autism. (May... Sounds like it was allowed to help.) If you look again, 2/30 children had significant improvements and not that it "may be helpful in 2 out of 30 autistic children." It was 60% of the children on a ketogenic diet who had improvements. I would say that would qualify my ambiguous statement of "for some with autism it has been shown to be helpful." Keto is not a new or unusual dietary treatment.
Weasel words? I think less of a knee jerk reaction to disagree anything I write might be warranted.
