Under armour - Compression shorts or leggings

Hi all,
Having played rugby for 10 years, I always train in short - shorts as find it easier to move, and hence always wear compression shorts underneath
Never wore leggings, what’s the benefits of wearing them inside ? (gym)
I’m after a few new pairs so debating which new underlayer shorts/leggings to get
Any feedback on leggings ? Positives ? Negatives ? Which model?
Appreciate any input

I'm a guy and I've got l/wear both. The main differences to me are that leggings are warmer and can aprotect your legs from abrasion, which may be important to you when playing rugby.
I wear them under normal clothing or ski gear when it's cold or just wear leggings alone in a chilly gym but as you probably already know, they are not "supportive."
So, you'll need to wear a jock beneath them; same applies to the shorts. I prefer using a thong; supports w/o strap lines. The center strap doesn't bother me but bothers others, in which case a jock strap would be better.
I also sometimes wear leggings over shorts when its cold to start but gets warmer later, so that I can just strip the leggings off w/o changing.
Think the ladies have been doing many of the same things for decades.1 -
They keep you from sticking to the equipment if you use machines. I usually end up rolling mine up above the knees except in the coolest weather. Having anything covering knees or elbows, or shoulders makes me feel hot and constricted when working out.1

I have one bad knee (torn meniscus on top of the minor osteoarthritis that both knees have). I'm happier for workouts in leggings, because it keeps my knees equally warm, unaffected by drafts or weather. (I row, so that's often outdoor weather.) YMMV.0

I lurve the leggings. I like all of their clothing and that ain't no 'evangelist' sales pitch. They make your legs feel so good.0

leggings: no sticking to equipment, minimize scraping/dinging shins on deadlifts1

Good point, as I was wondering if the compression leggings would support my right knee which is just buggered from years of rugby.

I wear compression leggings. The compression is for my skin flap due to losing about 180lbs and the leggings over shorts to prevent abrasions and scratches from equipment or grasses/shrubbery when running.1
