Britain...before kids my wife and I did an awesome 2 week road trip starting in London to Bath, up through the Cotswolds to Edinburgh, and then ending in Aberfeldy for her mom's 70th surprise birthday party.

    Roatan, Honduras (phenomenal scuba diving)

St Maarten (beautiful white sand beaches...unique culture in that half of the Island is Dutch and the other half is French)

Belize (spend some time on the mainland...San Ignacio is a neat little town...spend some time on the Islands...I preferred Caye Caulker to San Pedro.

Colombia (spent 4 days in Cartagena on the beach...the old city is really cool, but it's probably the hottest place I've ever been. Spent another 4 days in Medellin...it's a wonderful city...do a coffee plantation tour)

Tanzania (we did safaris in 4 different parks that were all uniquely different and stayed in some really interesting accommodations...tent camp, 4 seasons hotel, funny little hobbit house, tree house)

We're tentatively planning Costa Rica for the next Spring break.

This definitely helps! My problem with traveling out of country is I never went out of country with my parents or anything so I had no idea what to expect. We rented a house in Bahamas and IT WAS TERRIBLE. It was suppose to be smack dab right in the middle of the tourist area and it was on the other side of the island. It had bed bugs and everything was broke. The electrical outlets, the showers, the stove, the fridge. They had bed bugs and roaches. We tried getting a refund so we could go stay at a hotel and a lady came and checked out the house to see if we deserved a refund. We went grocery shopping an put all our food in the fridge and stuff is expensive down there like 12$ for a half gallon of milk. And everything spoiled cause the fridge didn’t work and she told us the fridge didn’t work because we had too many things inside the fridge 😂😂 we ended up swallowing the thousands of dollars we spent on the house and went and spent more money to stay at a hotel.

It can be an adventure and sometimes that adventure comes with some surprises. I went to Belize when I was still in college and pretty broke...I went down with a buddy and we started on the mainland in San Ignacio. We stayed at a nice, clean, and cheap hostel and couldn't have been happier with it.

We went to Caye Caulker later in the trip and had booked another hostel on the Island for $7 per night...which was the same price we were paying in San Ignacio. It was pretty *kitten* and hot and loud. We had a very poor nights sleep on really crappy mattresses and checked out before sun up the next morning. With nothing yet open we just went and sat on the beach and were approached by a guy coming onto the beach in a little motor boat...he asked us if we were "the buyers" and was holding a brick of cocaine.

That passed without incident thankfully. Later that morning we checked into a small 4 room hotel complex that was nice and clean at about $20 per night for a top floor room...my only complaint was the black bird who perched on the palm tree outside the rooms window and started squawking before the dawn every morning.

We later found out that the place we initially stayed was the unofficial island *kitten* house....

Jesus! Lol. That sounds hella cheap though lol

It was...my buddy and I did a few Lonely Planet shoestring travels. At the time they were great, and I have fond memories...but I was also broke AF. I'm a little more spoiled these days and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't want to stay in any hostel, clean or not.

Back then we didn't care too much as long as we had a beach, beer, good weed, and a reasonable accommodation that wasn't a *kitten* house.

I'm planning to travel more myself. While I want to do international travel, I still think there's so much to see and do in the US.

Yea I agree. I was stationed in Germany and visited every country in Europe but I’ve been to about 7 states in the US not including my own state

I've been in 33 states. Many of which, I'd go back to because there's a lot I still hadn't seen.

Yea that’s the great thing about the states. You can go there 10 times and still have more things to see

So I’m from the United States and I wanna travel the world. I’ve only been out of the country once. What are some places you guys have visited or lived that are worth seeing?
    I’ve been to the Bahamas!

Mauritius. Most amazing place I've been. High, highly recommend.

When you go to Germany stop in Bamberg if you’re in Bavaria it’s small but beautiful and Heidelberg if you go to Baden-Württemberg. You could get some good cardio in there running up to the castle

Go to Bali! It’s an amazing island in Indonesia with beaches, rainforest, mountains, temples, rice fields, and depending on where you stay, monkeys are everywhere. The people are friendly and just about everyone speaks English. Flights are expensive but food, accommodations and activities are very reasonable.

I have travelled extensively. As a Marine, I visited the Philippines, Guam, Okinawa, Japan and Thailand. Playing football and competing in Martial Arts, I travelled to Hawaii, Japan and Okinawa. My wife and I have vacationed in Spain, Italy, Portugal, Mexico, Hawaii, Canada and Ireland. Planning our vacation in 2019 to Dominican Republic. The next thing we want to do is visit all the National Parks in USA after we retire.

I joked a bit up thread and teased @4legsRbetterthan2 but I love to travel so I'll be a bit more serious. Where do I recommend visiting? Anywhere different from where you are! :flowerforyou:

The world is a big, amazing place so I highly encourage everyone to get out and see what you can when you can. Travel deals abound on websites and if you can learn to pack light you can save a lot of money on luggage fees when flying. Don't be afraid to hire a car and drive on your own once you get to where you're going. Or do lots of road trips around the States if you're there and can't afford or don't want to fly. Europe is small by comparison and you can visit multiple countries in a week with easy train connections and cheap flights. Take a travel dictionary if you don't speak the local language.

Try an all-inclusive resort once or twice to see whether you like it. I prefer to get off the beaten path and really explore a place, so while it was nice once I probably wouldn't do it again. To me, I'm not really "seeing" a place if I never leave the resort property. ;) I like to go to the markets, try the street food, eat where locals eat, etc.

Lowlight: Las Vegas. Meh. Some people love it but it was not for me. Too commercial and fake for my taste, and too many people trying to get me to sit through a timeshare presentation or flicking cards with half-naked ladies on them at me. Also, when you've been to the real Venice in Italy, the setup at the Venetian doesn't quite impress as much. But is it worth visiting Vegas at least once? Sure, why not? :)

Highlights I've loved and highly recommend: Big tour of the western USA - Grand Canyon, Arches, Yellowstone, etc., Hawaii, Queensland, Australia & the Great Barrier Reef, Caribbean island of St. Lucia, Thailand, and South Africa.

    Happy Travels!
