Anybody lost weight only by watching what they ate (by counting calories) and no exercise?

That would be me,. I have a knee injury that keeps me in a recliner. I follow a 1200 calorie a day plan. I log everything I eat. I've lost 25 lbs.11

Yes. Lost 26 kilos from June last year till around Christmas when I started maintenance.
Lost the last kilos while already going up in calories.
Went from 1700 to 1200 calories for a good amount of months. Then slowly came up again.
Currently maintaining at 2000 and becoming far more active and have added strength training now too.

Me!!!! I have 2 kids under 3 years old and work full time (plus the closest gym is a 45 min drive from house) so I don't really have too much time or energy to exercise. I've lost about 35 lbs in 15 months just by tracking what I was eating. Once I started logging what I was eating I was disgusted by how many calories I was eating and how I was eating 4-6 times as much sugar and fat as I should EACH DAY!!! So I started changing types of food I ate, cut sugar and milk out of my 3 cups of tea each day, and got really strict about portion sizes.7

Yes, you can probably lose weight by laying around and under eating. Some of that weight loss is going to be precious muscle. Flabby skinny is not pretty. What you should actually be wanting is to lose fat and keep muscle. Fuel your body and go work out. The number on the scale might stay the same but you will look and feel better.8

I lost 100 pounds that way. I wouldn't recommend doing it how I did, but I lowered my calories to 1350 (way too little for a person of my height, age, and sex)
I went from 265 to 165, then still didn't like how I looked so I got big into the gym to regain all that muscle lost. If I could do it again, I'd do a less aggressive diet and go to the gym throughout to prevent losing all that muscle mass.7 -
Yes. I haven't been able to run for over a month and CICO is working just fine.1

Another adding my name to this! So far down 13lbs (off & on since March) without exercising. I do every once in a while when the mood strikes, but usually nothing. I know I should, still working on getting into that mindset/forcing myself to add another thing to my days.0

Yes, I dropped about 50 lbs in a year. Slowly dropping calories, nothing too aggressive (about 5lb loss per month). But I did a little activity by occasional walks (once a week) and taking the stairs at work when I could (I'm on the 3rd floor of a warehouse).
I have a toddler who didn't sleep much at night, so I was always exhausted. I am also a single mom, and didn't have time to get to a gym, so by the time I got home from work, I am usually ready to drop. I lost 50 lbs with just calorie counting, and then was finally able to start at the gym a few months ago (not regularly though) and get a little more exercise in.

Taking care of and playing with toddlers can consume quite a lot of energy.5 -
Yes, I follow a shake plan where I have 2 shakes a day, 2 regular snacks and a 500 cal. meal. That helped me loose 30 lbs.7

When I first met my boyfriend (now husband) I was pretty overweight. I started watching what he ate and ate less. I think I lost close to 30 pounds.1

I lost about 25 pounds many years ago without exercise and my job was sedentary.
My body was smaller, but was still flabby. That made me lose my motivation and I gained it back.
For my goals and for a better body composition, adding in exercise was a better fit and it has been much easier keeping the weight off.4 -
In 2017 i lost around 37Kg pretty much exclusively by keeping an eye on things.... struggled this year for other reasons but back on the plan now1

I personally find my muscles and joints feel better when I am exercising mildly or at least being more active. However, I am commenting on here because I witnessed my Mom lost 60 pounds with zero amount of exercise in about 11 months.
My Mom was diagnosed with Alzheimers, she was not at the point yet that she needed 100% care, but she was killing herself with food. She had always struggled with weight and ate whatever, whenever she wanted. Especially pop and chips. She was diabetic and taking 4 insulin shots a day plus other meds. We found that she was eating constantly and her sugars were out of control. My brother stepped in and he started preparing all of her meals, no food was left in her house for her to snack on. He went to the dietician to see what portions and what foods she should be eating. In 11 months, he had her 60 pounds lighter and on one metphormin pill a day. No insulin, no BP meds, just the one pill. She has been in a nursing home since December and has gained about 25-30 pounds of it back and has had to increase her meds again.

Yes I have lost 32 pounds so far with no added exercise at all. I bet soon I will start to plateau; I recently changed my goals using my current weight as my starting weight, and I am supposed to eat about 130 calories less than before, I guess since my smaller body needs fewer calories to run on. This is tempting me to add some exercise so I can eat as much as I was eating previously, but we will see!1

Does it count if we were exercising already?
The first time I did this back in 2011, I did the first 9-10 months with no exercise, just limiting my food, going from 275 to about 225. However, once I got below 240, I did start exercising.
I got back up to 265 or more by not paying attention to what I was eating even though I was working out 4-6 days most weeks.
For me, it’s more about the food I eat than it is the exercise.
For FITNESS, you need both. To just lose weight, you can do that at the dinner table alone.

I lost 30 of my 40lbs of baby weight from my first kid, just by cutting calories.
However, I don't recommend it. I got skinny-fat, I was freezing and tired all the time. I looked and felt better and lost the weight faster the second time around when I lifted weights and cut calories.1 -
I did a few years ago.. Lost first 30lbs just counting calories.. Then lost the next 30 by going to the gym and doing some cardio and alot of weight training.. On the journey again since i have had my last child.. Looking to lose another 60lbs.. Hope this helps..0

I’ve done a mix of both. I am fond of maintaining my muscle so when I don’t exercise I lose at a glacial pace because I don’t want to eat too low. I’ve gone from 243 down to 161 with varying degrees of activity.
I did take a year to do recomp after losing about 60lbs. I gained some back due to health reasons and I’m back at it. I do things I like so it doesn’t feel like exercise. I enjoy walks and hikes and swimming!
I am also proud that I’ve maintained the bulk of my lean muscle through all of this. Well, at least what my scale reads out, which isn’t super accurate but I had a body scan done that validated the general percentage of fat vs lean mass. So yay!
Do things you enjoy! Then it’s fun, not “exercise I have to do to lose weight.” It’s, “HOT DIGGITY! It’s time for FUN!”2
