I’M BACK unfortunately, this time doing KETO for DIABETES

Hi all! I’ve been using MFP on and off for five years and yo-yo dieting. I’ve tried low-calorie, low-carb, napkins, and now I am doing a ketogenic diet and easing myself in.
This time I’m doing it because I have type two diabetes. One thing that everyone should know is that being fat doesn’t give you diabetes. Having diabetes makes you fat! I have probably been insulin resistant for decades and I think my diabetes has been undiagnosed for a few years. Many people can have normal fasting blood sugar’s and still be diabetic. If you have a family history of type one or type two diabetes you have an increased risk. And I’m convinced that a very low carb, ketogenic diet, possibly with occasional fasting, is the only way to reverse and possibly cure diabetes. Yes I think it can be cured. This is not the conventional medical wisdom, but there may be a seachange coming.
I never really had any classic symptoms of the disease and in December 2017 I had a normal fasting blood glucose. The reason I think I’ve been diabetic for a long time is that I now have fatty liver disease and, OMFG I can’t believe it, non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver. So I need to do something drastic!
Since March I have lost 20 pounds, some of it was without trying, which I now know is a sign of diabetes! I’ve been following MFP type of diet since the beginning of August and just recently switched my nutrient goals to approximately 20 to 30g per day.
I am still learning how to go Quito, what to eat and what not to eat, finding recipes and looking to hook up with others who are also doing keto. I have no idea how to add friends anymore or add myself to follow someone! I think the brain is going, LOL!
So if you are diabetic or going Quito, let’s be friends!

Welcome back to the MFP Community. If you're not already a member, you might like to join our largest group for low-carbers: https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/394-low-carber-daily-forum
Not everyone there does keto, but they are low carb.
By the way, have you actually been diagnosed with diabetes by a doctor? I ask because of the phrasing you use. It sounds like even though your blood work is normal you think you have diabetes anyway.
There's nothing wrong with making changes to have a healthier lifestyle, but it's best to let your health professional diagnose your condition (if any) and recommend a treatment plan if necessary. Yes, diet can play an important role in diabetes management and prevention, but you want to choose a plan that you can stick to and that is supported by your medical team.
Best of luck to you. :flowerforyou:0
