Can someone give me advice as to the best diet plan to lose weight for a 70 year old woman? I know the needs are different as we age. Thank you for any advice you can share.

Your doctor should be able to help guide you on that. It does depend on how much you need to lose. What health conditions you may have etc. Honestly, however, most any "diet" will work if you stick to it. And if you turn the diet into a lifestyle, you will be more likely to keep it off. Best of luck to you. Always remember to guard your overall health first.

Unless you have health markers that need a special diet, a weight loss “diet” is the same for anyone. Intake less calories than your maintenance and you lose weight. There’s no specific diet to follow that causes weight loss

The best diet plan is to eat the foods you enjoy eating (within the context of a reasonably balanced/nutritious diet), which afford you the most satiety and make it easiest to stick to your calorie goals. Consistency over the long term is the biggest necessity for success in weight loss.

Everybody loses weight in a sustained calorie deficit. It's not that complicated, it just means "eat less, move more, and keep doing it". As long as you eat less than you burn, and do it for real, and for some time, you will lose weight. But to be able to do it consistently, for real and for some time, you have to eat enough, and well. Your body has certain physical needs, which can be googled, but it's really common knowledge and common sense - real food in sensible portions, eaten in regular meals. But your mind also has needs, for comfort and feeling of being in control, so you can't really just jump on any diet plan and expect to be able to stick to it forever. You need to feel that you're making your own decisions, informed and freely. That's what MFP supports. You get a calorie target that is small enough for your to lose weight, and large enough for you to stay healthy. What to eat, and whether to stick to that target, is up to you.

Here is a great diet plan that has a great chance of working long term regardless of your age:

If you have special dietary needs, consider them when choosing your food.

As a 63 yr old woman, I'd say all the above advice is excellent. I'll only add to watch your protein and muscle mass. Do some strength training to save muscle while you lose. You might want to look into easy yoga or stretching classes to help with mobility and balance. Welcome and good luck.
