It's a myth, other than the seriously tiny energy boost from caffeine, unless the liquid simply fills you up so you eat less. I drink green tea regularly because I like it, but it's had no effect on my weight loss.18

Green Tea is healthy but it's no miracle for weight loss. Actually, for some people, taking green tea extract can be downright dangerous. I'd make sure that you're weighing (on a food scale) all your food first.
How long have you been at this for? Sometimes weight loss takes some time. Be patient and keep weighing portions, track every day and move more and it will happen for you.5 -
Try eating a Whole Foods Plant Based Diet and get plenty of exercise every day -- you won't need to worry about how many cups of tea to drink and you will loose weight and gain fitness.44

Green tea doesn't cause weight loss or boost your metabolism enough to affect you.
If it's been less than 3-4 weeks, you need to be more patient.
If it's been more than 3-4 weeks, and you aren't losing weight, you are probably eating more than you think. Try tightening up your logging.
I drank green tea when I was overweight, I drank it when I was losing, I drink it now.

The only green tea I like are green tea Kit Kats.
As long as I keep them within my calorie limit, I will lose weight.7 -

Even for those with true diagnosed diseases that are known to lower metabolism, the number difference is surprisingly small.
see the first few posts here: https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10642346/weight-loss-frequently-asked-questions-infographic-answers/p1 (includes the obligatory flow chart we all know and love)
If you are not losing, you are either very underweight, just starting out/changing routine and seeing short term fluctuations, or eating significantly more than 1250 calories. Most people are truly horrible at estimating portions by eye/spoon..and I mean really, really awful at it. If you've been at this a while and are stalled, get a food scale.
If you tend to be sleepy/slug-like, then caffeine might give you a bit more energy to go do something that will burn some extra calories (ie go for that run or walk instead of collapsing on the couch) or make you more likely to fidget than let your head slump down on your desk, and slightly increase your NEAT. (you won't magically burn a ton of extra calories doing the same activity level, but caffeine might make you more apt to increase your activity level).4 -
..continued: note that my last statement applies to any caffeine source (nothing special about green tea specifically).
Caffeine is also an appetite suppressant (the reason it is marketed as some OTC diet pills), so you might be less hungry on whatever number of calories.4 -

Six. Go with six.
I think I love you a little bit right now...4 -
Hot green tea tends to make me go over goal. Maybe it's because I usually drink it with one of those massively oversized meals at Asian restaurants .8

Green tea is right up there with tumeric, apple cider vinegar and hot sauce in terms of weight loss wastes of time. The amount you would have to consume of these for anything positive to happen is ridiculous. Calorie deficit is #1.6

I drink 32 oz of iced green tea every day at work (5 tea bags and 1 ginger). I drink it cuz I like it, it helps me get my water goal without having to drink water. The reason I use so many tea bags is because I like it strong. I've done this for years and haven't noticed any additional weight loss or boost in metabolism. Drink green tea because it taste good and good for it, not because it might boost your metabolism .000000001% (just a made of number, don't quote me on this)9

You don't have a slow metabolism and green tea does not impact this.
Be careful in these wooish diet ideas. Some time ago I was contacted by the doctor who could not stop his patient bleeding after injecting her with a 24 ga needle (very small needle). After investigating we found that the patient put herself on a green tea regimen and was drinking several cups a day. Green tea contains anti clotting factors and this woman essentially removed her ability to form blood clots.18 -
I read this news article a couple of weeks ago where this girl ordered green tea from China online. She drinked it as though she was personally responsible for maintaining China's economy. She developed hepatitis from it. I forgot why it gave her hepatitis....because science. But I think there was something else other than straight green tea in those tea bags which was the issue. Ordering things online is always a hit or miss. Especially internationally like that....especially internationally through ebay like she did.
Green tea will help you lose weight just like shots of apple cider vinegar (Insert Sarcasm).6 -

This sounds highly unlikely. How does she know it was the tea? Which Hepatitis?3 -

A friend of mine who works at a hospital here told me a similar story about how one of those ridiculous green tea diets slowed blood clotting in someone who was also taken an oral anticoagulant. It's sad how so many believe that Green tea helps you to lose tons of weight and all those silly diets.4 -

That will depend on the anticoagulant medication, but yes, coumadin is counteracted by Vitamin K.4 -

It was acute hepatitis that was resolved soon after she stopped drinking the tea. Here's the article:

The article didn't mention anything about how much she was drinking, and there's a lot of guessing as to the mechanism, but still. Very interesting case. Glad she's doing well.0 -

On the Telegraph website it says 'Doctors say 16 year-old's kidney infection caused by drinking three cups of green tea every day for three months in a bid to lose weight.... They said it was possible that the addition of chemicals to the tea, perhaps to aid weight loss, or the use of pesticides on tea trees had contaminated the infusion....There is potential for pesticide-induced hepatitis to exist, especially from less regulated products ordered from developing countries over the internet.'

Cool. Thanks. That's a lot of green tea. I like green tea, but probably not that much.1 -

Nope. You are wrong. Stop spreading incorrect info!!!!! I said six before and and six it must be. How dare you suggest otherwise.
Can we compromise and make it 3, then?2 -

^^^This...
If you're not losing weight you are most likely not in the deficit you think you are...
