Realistically how long would it take?

I'm 11 stone 5, 5"7 and 30. I need to do something about my weight now. I want to get to 10 stone. Is getting to that in 2 months achievable?

No it's not realistic. You're in a healthy weight range for your height already, so any weight loss is going to be slow, with 19lbs to lose you can expect to lose around 0.5-1lb per week in a healthy manner.
So you're talking at least a couple of months, why do you want/expect it to be 2 months?16 -
Realistically, it's extremely hard to lose at the rate you describe when you are that close to your goal. It's more likely that a healthy and sustainable loss would take you several more months. Why the deadline?6
-
Trying to lose a relatively big chunk of weight in a short period of time practically guarantees that the weight will come right back again. In two months you can start to make changes to your everyday habits that will help keep the weight off when it's gone -- maybe try to work on that part, and let the weight come off in a healthier manner.6

I'm just sick of the way I look now. I look so horrible and I want the weight off as quick as possible. But i also want it to stay off as well. I want to look good in time for Christmas ideally.3
-
No, it is not achievable, sorry. You need about 8-10 months for that.
I'm your height and it took me more than a year to get from 11 st 5 to 10 stone.15 -
If you're wanting to improve appearance have a look at the re-comp thread. https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10177803/recomposition-maintaining-weight-while-losing-fat
Strength training can make a huge difference alongside a small deficit.
Also try to be kinder to yourself, I doubt very much that you look horrible.

Since our cautionary posts got wooed here's the maths. To lose 10kg in two months as you want you need to lose about 160grams per day. 160grams of fat is about 1230cal. So you need to make about 1230cal deficit every day. At your height your sedentiray maintanance according to MFP is about 1750 which includes up to 5k steps. So to lose that much you need to eat 500cal net per day. That is 500cal plus excercise. That is unhealthy to say the least but I'll go further and add impossible too. Well unless you have an eating disorder.23

I know you are frustrated but there is a right way and a wrong way. Everything about the mindset of losing it in a hurry to hit a deadline is the wrong way.
What is likely to happen is that you will deprive yourself too much. You will force yourself to exercise thinking that you can endure it because it is only for a few months. You will push and push and then when you get on the scale you will see that you have not lost any weight or you may even gain weight. You won't understand why so you will think that you either need to push harder which will likely end in bingeing and/or you will give up thinking it is hopeless. Fast forward maybe 3 years you may find yourself in worse shape and more frustrated and you will start wasting money on internet fat cures and jumping on fad diets thinking they must work because what you tried didn't. From there it could take years (if ever) for you to learn what you could learn right now.

In 2 months you could realistically lose anywhere from 4 to 8 lbs.
I think a good focus that will have you feeling better about your appearance by Christmas is:
- small deficit (0.5lbs a week)
- adequate protein 0.8-1g per lb bodyweight
- Strength Training with progressive overload 3-4x a week12 -

Don't worry so much about the woos a lot of people still think that woo means woohoo rather woo-science.10 -
Another one to say no, it is not possible to do in a healthy and realistic way. I started at nearly 12 stone in April and just this week am down to 10 stone 6. It takes a lot of patience and changing your eating habits along the way (by that I mean eating in moderation). That is what will help allow you to keep the weight off once it is gone.4

OP, I'm sure you do not wish to come over as a superficial person, is loosing 19 lb going to make all that difference in your life? Please try to give yourself credit for your strengths and not be so down on yourself for being 10% over weight in your view. Being 30 is not the end of the world either. If you have outstanding aims to achieve this can be dispiriting, work towards them anyway, don't put off until...………...you are smaller, this wastes opportunity. I'm looking 70 in the eye, its also a downer, but I'm here when several friends are not. We all have individual blessings.
OP please set your goals to .5 of a lb, enjoy all you eat, log the foods you naturally like to eat, see where you go over on less helpful food categories, increase fibre by fair means or fowl, gently, with food or supplement. You will get where you want. Love yourself no matter what size you are, or are not.2 -
I spent my entire life setting unrealistic goals and dieting to extremes trying to instantly lose weight once and for all. I always failed. This time I was successful because I lost slowly and learned along the way. Take your time. If you start now and even if you only lose 5 pounds before Christmas you will feel much better and be 5 pounds closer to your goal. If you crash diet you will be miserable and go crazy over the holiday and likely gain most of what you lost back. Trust me in this. I've been where you are and worse. I didn't get the weight off until I was 60 years old and it took me 2 years because of all the yo-yo dieting I had done. I always gained back more than I lost and in the end I had to lose 106 pounds.7

If you are already in a healthy weight range, you may need to start lifting weights. That may make the difference in your body you are looking to achieve.6 -
Here is a question. Did you put the weight on in 2 months? Workout and eat at your calorie level given and you will do great2

Because you aren't very overweight, it's not at all realistic to lose 20 lbs in 2 months. But considering where you are starting from, if you set your goal to lose 1 lb per week, and start doing some strength training, you will look better by the holidays, even though you won't be at your goal weight. Then you can keep going afterward, with your goal set to lose 0.5lbs per week, and look and feel amaze-balls by the summer. Good luck!7 -
Thanks everyone...it's my yo yo dieting that got me here in the first place. I was 10 stone 7 last year and slowly crept up to 11 5 due to bad food choices. I've been eating/drinking a lot of rubbish, not exercising and not watching it. And now i have no confidence in my body. I'm gonna start exercising and try and lose 1lb a week and see how i go from there.

Food choices don't cause you to gain weight. Eating too many calories causes you to gain weight.
Exercise is a better tool for your overall health than it is for weight loss.

If you yoyo dieting got you here in the first place, stop yo-yoing dieting!
The easiest way to stop yo-yoing it to stop shooting for unachievable things. Make changes for life. Don't be "on a diet", instead, change your habits into habits you will want to continue once you reach your goal weight. By extreme dieting trying to lose 19lbs in 2 months, all you're doing is setting yourself up for failure. And failure makes yourself feel like poop and normally leads to overeating and puts you right back where you started. Trust me, I've been there too.
Would you rather have lost almost 7lbs by christmas. Or never. If you set yourself up for extreme diets, you're setting yourself up for never. You can lose almost 7lbs by christmas if you try and lose just 0.5lbs a week.
And trust me, you'll enjoy the process a heck of a lot more with a less extreme calorie deficit (or maybe you'll hate it less. Same difference )9 -

And to add to this: you'll also lose a lot of muscles if you go on an extreme diet, and in the end you might reach your goal weight fairly quickly but will look even more flabby. Don't do that.5 -
It’s definitely possible, it’s just not gonna be even remotely healthy.4

I would say it's possible, AND healthy, if done right. HOWEVER, you need to think in terms of body composition instead of "losing weight". My .02 anyway.18

How do you lose 20 lbs in 2 months healthily by thinking in terms of body composition?14 -
It will take resistance training and probably a minimum of 20% calorie deficit (from your TDEE). I highly recommend finding a trainer. It's a lot to try to do on your own, unless you're already lifting on a regular basis.14
-
It's not really realistic to lose that much in a short period of time, two months is but a blink when you think of the length of life -
Just make a start, aim for 1-1.5lbs max a week and do it in a healthy and sustainable way - just think in 6 months time you could be at goal.
All the best.5 -
I agree with the other posts....losing weight slowly is better. I have been a member for a little over three months and have lost 12 pounds. Key steps for me have been: Log in every day and everything I eat, stay under 1900 calores per day, walk at least7,000 steps per day, focus on the process(es), not the results! The results will come. I also found that focusing on other areas of improvement (than weight reduction) is helpful and more natural. Good habits (depending upon the nature of them) can take 50-60 days to develop and become ingrained. Hope this hleps.3

Your .02 is worth .00 because it's wrong. It is not possible for a woman of her stats to sustain the type of deficit needed to lose 19 lbs in 2 months. Nineteen lbs lost over 10 weeks requires a deficit of 950 per day. That is likely close to or more than 50% of her TDEE. Nobody is sustaining a 50% deficit for that long and coming out healthy.19 -

A barely overweight woman eating at a 1000 calorie deficit per day doesn't sound very healthy or realistic to me, trainer or not. Her tdee is probably around 2000 cals so she'd have to eat well less than 1200 cals to make that work. Not a good idea.11 -
Yes, I agree, just by cutting calories alone, it's NOT realistic.8

Is there some reason you don't want to explain what you mean? How is resistance training going to change the equation in two months?10
