Thanks for starting January!!
Today I started getting myself back into a somewhat structured life. I got some chores done which freely nice. I also worked on getting my CEUs which had been weighing on me.
I also started my new health collection and my new bullet journal. In the past I would have felt inspired but instead I feel comforted. I like this much more. It feels less getting and more like routine.
I've also been spending time with my husband watching Avatar.5 -
Today’s self-care activities:
-Took my vitamins
-Cleaned
-Did a morning Bible study
-Spent time enjoying word puzzles and board games
-Listened to music and had quiet time instead of watching tv
-Discussed monthly budget with husband
-Tracked my food
2 -
Thanks for this thread! Today, I spent time with family and went to a movie with them but I did enjoy it, too. Took more vitamins today. Today was less self care but tomorrow I’ll be back at work. Self care a priority when dealing with a stressful job.2

@MrsEllikat, sounds like a good start to the new year! I love word puzzles and board games.
@RubyRed427, I hear you about the stressful job. I've been off since Christmas Eve, and I'm feeling rather anxious about going back to work today. Maybe we should both think of some relaxing self care for this evening.
I just read a couple of devotionals to start my day.

-Food tracking
-Reasonable food choices when eating out
-Shut off tv when I was cutting it on just because and listened to music instead
Morning Self-care (Jan 3):

-Quick clean of kitchen & dishes
-Exercise - I lifted weights even though I was feeling self-conscious
-Resisted temptation to start work early instead of doing things listed above

Last night I had a dance party while listening to Mark Knopfler and doing laundry. Also got most of Christmas put away. I'm sad to see it go but absence makes the heart grow fonder. I've also done some cleaning over the past few days that should be finished today once I clean up all the pine needles. It feels good to fresh start the new year5
-
January 2nd:
-Completed my morning & evening hygiene routines
-Ate enough
-Journaled
-Meditated
-Got out and walked the dog even though it was rainy and miserable4 -
January 2:
Trying to get back on track after the holidays so the hubby and I tried out a new recipe that was delicious and I spent a little time crafting and reading.4 -
Have not been sleeping well at all for the last few days.
So, self care to help me sleep well tonight:
Went to yoga.
Will meditate for 30 min. Instead of 10 min.
Will shut off all electronics 30 min before bed.
Will read my book and listen to peaceful music.

Jan 3
Played, snuggles, and petted with my sweet cat!
Walked A LOT 1:53 mins total. Amazing Sunset Sky stopped me in my tracks...
Splurged on. FLOW magazine...
Reflected on yesterday’s art project - in writing- filling two pages. Art DOES heal!
Ate well.4 -
January 3:
Work was a struggle yesterday but forced myself to cook dinner instead of ordering in and by the time I finished cooking I was in a much better mood. I forget sometimes that I do enjoy cooking. So my new goal for January is to cook more instead of making the hubby cook all the time and to try a new recipe every week.5 -
January 3rd:
-Completed my morning & evening hygiene routines
-Ate enough
-Took a nap
-Meditated
-Got to the gym
-Increased my water intake3 -

Update: None of these things helped me sleep I had another poor night. I think it must be hormonal.
Today self care:
Will stay home, read, maybe go and get a coffee for a little while. I also may start journaling tonight.3 -
Hmm, I posted my self care for yesterday early this morning, but I don't see it. Maybe I hit Preview instead of Post?
I'm not going to retype everything, but I wanted to mention, @MadisonMolly2017, that I love FLOW magazine. I can't justify the expense on a regular basis, but it's a wonderful treat!1 -
Just found this community thread and love the idea of self care challenge. That is my number one issue is putting everyone else first and myself last... well guess what not this year. This community challenge will remind me daily no matter how stressful my day is I need to take care of me!!!
Jan 4th:
* took a brisk night time hike on the Erie Ohio Tow Path trail with my husband, 10 year old daughter and our beautiful dog Lilly
* Played card games with the family after dinner. No electronics allowed.
* Got out of work on time. Usually work anywhere from 50-60 hours per week. Family thought I was fired from my job when I came through the door lol
* During my morning stretching and eating breakfast started to do light therapy. What a huge difference it makes. I am more awake, motivated and in a great mood. Highly recommend trying it. Got mine on Amazon.
Thanks for allowing me to participate in your challenge looking forward to the extra support6 -

Not sure what type of meditation you are doing. I also struggled with sleep. I would lay down and a million thoughts would start running through my mind. I found this app called Breethe.. my 10 year old and I will put lavender in our diffuser and meditate the deep sleep on the app. Best sleep I have had in forever. Just thought I would throw the suggestion out there!! Good luck2 -

Thanks so much! I will check out Breathe. Yes, lavender is good idea. I have a little vial that my sister gave me once. I’ll find it.2 -
Self care- good
Made a list on a special “habit building” calendar of all the things i can do every day or some days in January. (Example I wrote : plank 1 min., eat raw veggies, mediation, no alcohol , read for 15 min. ...) Then, I colored the little boxes on the chart on the days I do those things.
Wrote a few sentences in a 5 year “Line a day” journal for the first four days of January. And I also read my entries last year.
Listened to an AA speaker who is so funny on youtube called “Sister Bea”.
Tonight, a good night of self care.

I have been making a point to spend at least a few minutes a day doing something artistic as well as reading before bed. Today I started my "training" on the Rachel Carson trail. I have my SMART goals for the year and I have some of them being down into monthly goals. I feel good about being back in a routine and working towards those goals!2

I love reading these threads. I don't post in here much any more but I try to keep up with the posts in here every few days. I've learned so much in here.
I've learned not to let self-care be just another chore.
Work days (Mon-Thurs) I just keep up with my 7-days a week daily enriching self-improvement habits:- 5 minutes studying Greek,
- do a drawing,
- 5 minutes handstands/stretching
- logging all meals
- logging my training
- running, walking, or swimming.
These keep me fit, mentally alert, at goal weight, and very happy.
Even if I've been busy at work or home, keeping up with these things reassures me I'm not heading down a slippery slope.
The weekday chores are to do the dishes before and after dinner, any errands to keep the household functioning, and admin tasks for groups I'm involved in.
Weekday bonus self-care:- If I have time for reading/writing/posting in MFP (a self-care treat) I see that as a bonus.
- If my other half is home when I get home, we talk about our day and discuss the latest news and political satire he's been watching.
- I also try to wind down with a few minutes on Facebook to catch up with friends before bed.
On weekends, I do self-care things I haven't done for a week or a while.- Decluttering and cleaning, which I've grown to see as rewarding and revitalising.
- Catching up with blogs, forums, email newsletters, and articles, plus my favourite MFP threads/forums.
- Lunch with my Mum usually on a Friday.
- parkrun every Saturday, and sometimes I also go to a café with my parkrun peeps afterwards.
- Occasionally I'll watch a movie or documentary.
- Whatever I want.
And sometimes I see something one of you has done, and I think, that sounds like something I really want and need to do!
