Body system clogged up!

Hi, I'm on my second week of keto diet. Though this is embarrassing to say, I need some help...I'm completely clogged up, not even laxatives work on me! I know this diet is low in fibre and so I need to up the intake of vegetables and fat, but nothing helps! I'm drinking warm water on an empty stomach, increased sodium intake, put coconut fat in my coffee...I don't want to break my diet as I've been doing so well! Anyone got any ideas/tips to get the tummy moving? Thanks!!

Are you drinking plenty of water? More than just warm water on an empty stomach I would hope. Try just going low carb rather than full on keto and see if that helps. If it doesn't then maybe cutting carbs just isn't the answer for you. After all, there's no magic behind cutting carbs or going keto and it's not necessary for weight loss.12

How many grams of fiber are you getting?
Raspberries are a relatively lower carb/higher fiber fruit.

I have had good luck with miralax the two times i was clogged. It does suck alot of water from your body into your digestive system so you do need to drink alot of water.0

1000 mg of vitamin C at night and hot sauce on everything worked for me when I was on a very-low-carb eating plan.2

Im on week 2 of my Keto journey and have found the exact same issue. I’m also very bloated, and super tired. I researched a bit this evening about it. Magnesium is recommended to help soak up excess water in your stomach and help with the constipation. Husk is also another supplement and it acts as a laxative due to its fibre content. And Vitamin B5 helps increase your energy levels. I’m going to try out these supplements over the next few days and hopefully see some results. Otherwise I’m giving up - can’t deal with the discomfort of the bloat and having no energy! Lol Look up ‘Dr. Berg’ on YouTube, he has some very informative posts on Keto☺️ I hope this has helped a little x18

Dr. Berg is a chiropractor... I wouldn't take nutritional advice from him. Especially considering his run ins with the Virginia Board of Medicine, unethical practices, and several unsubstantiated claims. In fact, any doctor that purposefully uses their title trick people into thinking their claims are valid when they in fact go well beyond their area of expertise is untrustworthy IMO.35 -
Aside from veg, avocado has tons of fiber and not a lot of net carbs. Invest in avocado. Nuts are also high in fiber and keto freindly.1

How about a large glass of warm soapy water. 😎
I’ve found a tablespoon of flax meal is a good tool to have. I’m not a keto person but every now and then we all need a little “assistance.”1 -
Magnesium citrate helps a lot and isnt the type of laxative that your body gets too used too. Just drink lots of water.1

Dissolve a tablespoon of Epsom salts into a glass of water and drink that. Tastes awful, but it REALLY works.2

Castor oil. An oldie but a goodie, and keto- friendly. Also makes wonderful hair treatment for deep conditioning2

Milk of Magnesia.2

Or maybe don't do keto.20

Smooth Move tea. If it doesn't work, at least the name made you lol right?6

You guys are awesome! I took dulcolax yesterday and it didn't work on me (for the first time!!) @pierinifitness LOL I think I'm passing on the glass of soap water! Tried Epsom salt in water - and NADA! @Seanan 2387 I have a feeling this problem will stop me from following Keto I've been on it for 16 days now. I've watched Dr Berg' videos, he's advicing to stay away from newly introduced veggies into the diet like cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower and instead eat much friendlier veggies like spinach, sallad and collard greens, but those don't really fill me up! But the issue is you have to eat alot of it to get your fibre and for it to work! Hope the supplements work for you x7

I would take more dulcolax. They give that stuff to spinal cord injury patients who have been stopped up for over a month and their system literally doesn't work anymore. If it can get them moving, it can get anyone moving. That stuff in no joke.3 -
I would add back in some carbs, and maybe down a few prunes. And if all else fails, haribo sugar free gummy bears.10

You could try eating 1 Quest bar per day, they are keto friendly and generally have around 14g fiber. You could also look into trying out the Apple Cider Vinegar recipe drinks once a day, that may help too.5

Fiber supplements like ground psyllium add virtually no calories and you can get it at most health food stores. You may also want to try a strong cup of caffeinated coffee. Caffeine can irritate the colon and helps produce a bowel movement..
If you are taking any type of pain medication regularly, cut it out if you can. It can cause your bowels to essentially shut down.3 -
Are you consuming enough salt? Maybe there's simply not enough water available to use for going to the toilet, and salt makes your body hold more onto water.2

How long has it been since you've had a BM?2 -

Yeah, you don't drink soapy water to relieve constipation, but a soapy water enema sure will help.

This. There is a point where you need to consider seeing a doctor.4
