Looking to find some individuals on the same journey as myself. I intermittent fast every day and attempted a keto diet when I break it. I've just started getting into extended fasts and have just completed my first of 3 days(72 hrs) feeling great.Anyone looking for info or support or just to talk lmk.

Oh dear. MFP sort of frowns on topics where people starve themselves for three days at a time. Maybe better you find a fasting forum somewhere else on the internet? Regardless, good luck.8

Why not count calories? This sounds extreme.4

Yikes.2

I would rather actually eat and feel great thanks 😬 I need the fuel to do my best.3

How do you “intermitten fast every day” but not eat for 3? Your doing it wrong.. read up on 16:8 at least4

I'm not aware of it, but maybe search the low carb groups to see if it's a thing.2

You don't do extended fasts all the time. I typically just intermittent fast but will occasionally do extended fasts if I've left the keto state or otherwise feep unwell. Sorry for the confusion.9 -

Fasting ≠ starving. If you're interested I suggest reading "The Fasting Cure" by Upton Sinclair. He details his personal account along with 277 other participants who engage in long term fasts and they describe their experiences. Hunger after the 2nd day is very rare. Most hunger people feel is actually just caused by acute addiction to sugar. This explains why the symptoms of "hunger" are so similar to acute withdrawal. Real hunger is felt in the throat not the stomach. Nevertheless I understand if you're unsure of engaging in a fast, most people are scared off by the negative publicity it has been given in media. Best of luck to you in your wellness endeavors!29 -

I appreciate the well wishes. I understand there is a lot of disinformation about fasting in the media so I understand the general concern from most people. Just trying to share some stuff that has had great effects in my life and many others. Best of luck to you as well.11 -

I'm sorry, but the bolded is just not true, and the rest of your post is pretty questionable as well. You have bought into internet woo. Hunger is not due to a sugar addiction - I'm not addicted to sugar and I feel hungry everyday. Oh, and in my stomach. HTH do you feel hunger in your throat????????14 -
I get where you're coming from, John. On the advice of a friend & an encyclopedia of natural health, fasting done right can be VERY beneficial to your health. For years, I use to do a 10 (sometimes a few days more) day juice fast once a year just to cleanse my body from all of the toxins that we're exposed to on a daily basis using fresh homemade juices, (alternating vegetable & fruit juices), lemon water, herbal teas, & certain natural supplements. It always used to make me feel SO great while I was on it & kept my weight in check. I got out of the habit & now I'm 60+ lbs. overweight. I spoke with my diabetes nurse & diabetes dietician about it & they are all for it. I need to try that again. Best of luck to you. Just make sure that you do it right.23

This comment is 100% woo. And I would SERIOUSLY question the education of any medical professional who was cool with 10 days of juicing (which would be A LOT of sugar). But hey if you want to deprive yourself regularly of valuable macros and minerals and such that your body better absorbs from food than it ever will from juices and supplements, that's your choice. I'll wager you probably couldn't identify even one of these so-called toxins you think you're detoxing from, or how juices and sugar pills manage to achieve such a feat.9 -

What exactly are these toxins that you think your juice, water, tea, and "natural supplement" fast is getting rid of? Moreover, how do you suppose that the billions of healthy people on this earth are able to stay healthy without fasting?
The answer is that our bodies are really good at essentially doing what you think your fast is doing. If you're having trouble filtering unneeded substances from your body, you need to see a specialist. As in one who went through med school, doesn't practice pseudoscience, etc.8 -
I started writing a neutral, supportive but cautious post. Then ran out of willpower.
Fasting is not suitable for everyone and some of us have conditions where it would be fatal. Please be careful advocating “cure alls”. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but don’t assume you know what’s best for other people. Personally, I trust my endocrinologist and will continue to do so.7 -
I "fast" from usually around 8PM-11AM during the week because it fits my body and work hours (I find it hard to eat and have it settle before 6:30-7, and by then I have kids, so eating becomes difficult). Bonus of fasting this way is that when they need me to not take a lunch, it's not too much of a shock on my body (I'm not on the floor staring at baby food pouches).1
