Attempting to get started from years of being a stoner

Off the back of 9 years of smoking weed and no exercise for 6 years and a breakup a couple weeks ago which has prompted this motivation to improve myself. I’m don’t want to become some beast I just want to feel healthy and have more energy throughout the day. before I’d often forget to eat (which I know people will think didnt you get munchies) but for me it was the opposite, because of this I don’t know how to eat right and have no idea what to cook so I need help with easy simple recipes.
I wanted to keep the ball rolling and started with some bodyweight stuff like push ups I have an app that gives the exercises and timings but I was falling behind and would find myself just lying on the ground but I guess as long as I’m pushing myself to maximum then it didn’t matter if I keep up with it?
So yeah as you can tell I know nothing and need some people behind me, I live in France for work and know no one apart from some work colleagues and thorght id give this community stuff a crack.
Thanks

Just reporting for yours truly (and what works for one often doesn't for another):
-Bear in mind that, if you hate the form of exercise, you'll probably stop exercising (when I was coming down from almost 300 pounds, I'd force myself to run five miles and then not do it for another month; start with walks or bodyweight stuff like you said);
-I really, really dig Max Capacity for getting back into functional strength training (there's an app that takes all of the thought out of it; you just work out for 16 minutes four or five days a week);
-If you get into it (fitness, nutrition, etc.), I'd encourage some reading. My wife bought new rules of lifting for women and I loved it... it didn't turn me female, either.
-Try not to lapse for long periods of time; rest days are great and necessary, but try to avoid losing motivation for weeks at a time... try to force at least the 16 minutes or a walk or a jog or a hike or something.
-Personally, there is NO reason for a gym membership (based on where I live and what I like to do for fitness) and the treadmill / elliptical were the worst things I've ever done with my life.
-For nutrition, start slowly. Find veggies and/or fruits that you like. Don't neglect protein. Don't jump on fad diets; just create a deficit (if you're trying to lose weight). Eggs are cheap and amazing. So are potatoes. I'll eat most any vegetable if I cook up some caramelized onions before hand and add to them (kale, spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots... anything). So I guess I'm saying know what you like and capitalize on that.
-Ask people on this site for lots of advice. There are super knowledgeable mega-pros all over the place.
-Give yourself a break. Don't beat yourself up because there was a day where you ate too much or too little or didn't exercise enough. The best advice I got for weight loss (or fitness, in your case): this thing is a marathon, not a sprint. No one expects you to achieve your goal in minutes.
My 43 cents, anyway.5 -
Hey man,
I've never actually posted on this app before but the stoner heading caught my eye lol. I know how you feel though even with the forgetting to eat comment or not being that hungry until you smoke something. This app is deff great for keeping your diet in check though as long as you really use it. Just make sure your're hitting the macro goals you set and then slowly clean it up. After a few months you'll have it all down, I'd also recommend preparing your food in advance though, it helps a lot.3 -

It is a great place to develop self-awareness / accountably habits and shift yourself towards a new sustainable lifestyle. Works no matter what your food plan, exercise strategy, or where you are on your journey (everyone from just starting to nearing goal weight to maintaining for years now)
We have a raft of brand new members also starting this month, a crew that are only on their second or third month with us, and more than enough olde-timers like me who can guide you through your transition period.
Hope to see you there.

This is a "focus on just today" kind of thing ... as you discover and practice what works for you. No-one is EVER "out of the challenge" and everyone supports / provides guidance on any question you might have.1
