Body Fat % Bulk or Cut

Hi, hoping the advanced users could help estimate my body fat % and recommend if I bulk or continue to cut. I’m currently 6’, 165 pounds, 33” waist. Down from 202 / 43” 6 months ago. Been doing body weight training almost every other day and some cardio on off days during that time and would like to start building more muscle. Thanks.

Replied on your other post. I’d say 15-17% could do with putting on some muscle so recomp or slow bulk. If bodyweight excercises are to easy now then you need to find ways to make them harder to ensure progression. If you could get to a gym that would be better.

I’d Drop some more body fat, nearer
    To 12%
Then go on a steady bulk for
At least the next 6-12 months.
Make the most of those newbie gains,
Ideally join a gym and get someone to
    Teach you the basics lifts

Were you lifting/resistance training while you were losing? What kind of bodyweight training were you doing? Was it progressive? I would highly recommend following a program if not already and if you have access to a gym or weights I would start to incorporate them.

Then if I were you I would spend some time at maintenance to recomp at least for a few months. That way you could benefit from some newb gains and lean out a bit at the same time. If you cut more, which you can, you will just get skinnier and while you might be in a better place to bulk you run the risk of running in circles a bit. So you will be taking two steps back to take 2.1 steps forward. Again up to you. If you bulk you aren't that lean so that can also be frustrating since you will likely gain more fat than you want.

So get on a good lifting program first and foremost. Then I would hang out at maintenance for a bit then reassess.

This^ it is most optimum for minimizing fat gain and maximizing muscle gain for men to be sub 15% for bulking. Recomp to lean down and gain muscle is best right now. When you get leaner, a bulk is a possibility.

How difficult has it been for you to lose weight? If it's a constant struggle then you don't want to gain much fat and I'd go with the recomp idea others have mentioned.

If losing the weight wasn't that much of a struggle and you wouldn't have a problem going through it again I'd say go for a good progressive weightlifting program and eat at a surplus where you see gains on the order of 0.5lb/week and build some muscle. Try that for 6 months or so and then reassess.
