Diet Distress

I recently lost 70 pounds on my way to my goal of 100 pounds of weight loss when things started to go off the rails of my keto train. I started working in a cheat meal once a month, but I think that got my appetite for carbs revved up. I stopped the keto diet in August roughly around 200 pounds. I am currently about 215 pounds. My goal weight is 169 and really want to achieve that goal, unfortunately, I have fallen back into the sweet craving mode. I have tried to get back on the keto diet, which while I was doing it for months was the easiest diet I had ever done, but I have not been able to bring myself to go back to that lifestyle.
Any suggestions on how to either get back on keto or get my train back on the rails to my weight loss goal. I can't allow myself to gain all the weight I have lost once again. It's time to take action.

Are you logging? I personally found logging really helped me to be more mindful about what and how much I was eating, and to be able to accurately tie hungry days or cravings to how I was eating.
I can't give any advice on keto, as I've never done keto or low carb, but perhaps focusing on logging consistently can get you back in the right mindset to analyze where exactly your jumping off the tracks.5 -

I have not been logging. Agree. Need to do that. Also, living in the Midwest, the winter has taken its toll on me. I am longing to move to Arizona, thus I really got the winter blues this winter more than normal. With spring on the horizon, I hope to get back out more to walk, run and get into some 5Ks again.0 -
Start with just logging honestly. Don't even change what you are eating. As you see the data, you will naturally make changes to bring you back into a calorie deficit.
You can eat carbs and lose weight. You just can't eat all of them, all the time.11 -
I definitely found a similar thing happening with keto. I lost good weight and then went off the diet, ate all the carbs (and more calories) and regained all the weight.
After this I decided that eating very low carb was just not a good long-term solution for me. Although let me add that I'm in no way against keto (stated for those of you using this diet successfully).
It is possible to eat carbs and lose weight. My diet is currently 50% carbs and I'm losing on track. Maybe you should consider regular old calorie counting and see if you can get back to losing again. Do you have a food scale?6 -
If carbs are a craving trigger for you, then you can reduce them in your diet without having to go as low as keto carb levels. If you aren't going to sustain keto as a lifestyle, then it may not be a good fit for a weight loss plan. Maybe something more LCHF or just LC would fit your life better and still help to reduce your cravings while still allowing you an amount of carbs that is sustainable for you.4

Definitely log and measure. You can absolutely lose weight and still eat carbs. You just need to eat at a deficit, which was the same thing you were doing when you were on Keto.
I've gone from 235 to 210 and still dropping eating a normal balanced diet and counting my calories, in conjunction with exercise. There is certainly no need to do a specific diet if you don't feel like it is for you.2 -
Thanks for all the advice. Just what I needed. A little pick me up to help get me back on track!

Weight loss comes down to being at the correct calorie deficit for your weight loss goals, regardless of what macros ratios or plan you're following. Start logging your food and use a food scale. This will help you to fit in all the foods you enjoy eating, but in a controlled manner that works with your goals. Many people find it helpful to pre-log their days in the morning, so they go into the day with a plan in place.
I'm also in the Midwest and my senior neighbors put me to shame a few weeks ago-I was whining about how cold it was, and there was no way I could do my walks, when I saw them out there doing their twice a day walks, (these are men in their 70s vs me at 40 yrs old). I felt pretty dumb after seeing that and it was great motivation for me to stop making excuses and get my lazy bum out there We're now into the 40s and I'm walking 5 days a week again, with a goal to start walking twice a day soon!
