Old/New Weight Routine

Looking for some advice on Weight Routines.
Since I started lifting/exercising back in January, I've been using an old set of monthly routines I ripped out of Men's Health magazines back in the 1990s/early 2000s. They're old. I've augmented them as I use them with knowledge I've gained from watching more current Youtube videos, online articles, and forums/message boards. All the same, they pretty much stay intact. They seem to be working fine. However, I'm starting to worry they are antiquated/dated...not up with the latest science essentially (19 years old). I notice, for example, I'm doing "work-sets" with lighter weights and work up to "work-sets" with heavier weights in the same routine....while most routines I hear about use "drop-sets" in a routine.
Questions are these:
Would 19 year old routines be too dated to be effective?
Should I start looking for new weight lifting routines?
If so, do you know where I might be able to find some good ones for free?
(For example, would try something like AthleanX, but, the routine is either $77 or $97...I could afford it but still seems pricey...so...maybe free or cheap books, articles, etc?...)
Thoughts and comments always appreciated!
