Olive oil

Am I the only person that dislikes olive oil? I just don’t like the flavor. There’s a shop in the nearby town I shop in, that sells imported olive oil, flavor infused, EVOO, regular olive oil and vinegars. My husband eats his salad with just olive oil and black pepper on it. I made smashed baby red potatoes on Sunday, and couldn’t even finish one potato. I don’t think it’s the quality of the oil, cuz I have tasted samples at the shop and found none of them pleasing to me. So, back to canola oil for me.

I love olive oil, but it has a very distinct taste so it makes sense that not everyone would care for it. Nothing is universally liked!4

I've never met someone who doesn't like it, but you can't possibly be the only one in the world. *shrug*0

It definitely has a more pungent flavor that I could see people not liking, so there are probably others out there that dislike it. Me, on the other hand - if I ever needed to pound down 3000 calories in a sitting for whatever reason, I'd reach for some baguette and EVOO. That stuff is good and goes down easy.6

A buddy of mine hates it.
An unchecked amount of olive oil definitely contributed to my weight gain. I adore the stuff.0 -
I hate coffee. Your dislike of olive oil pales in comparison, based on the shocked reactions I've received when revealing that shameful truth about myself2

You anti-coffee twins are dead to me now.8

Ghosts don't drink coffee anyway so it is the same amount!2 -
You don't have to use olive oil. Use whatever you like. I love coconut oil, but it's not for everything.0

Three times. I despise coffee! I have nearly been shunned by coworkers for my refusal to drink it. I do, however, love olive oil.3 -
I love it, but there's always someone who dislikes everything, and I don't think it's that unusual to dislike olive oil.1

I love olive oil. You can try grapeseed or avocado oil as an alternative.1

My coworkers give me the confused "oh" when I tell them. Then I laugh evilly when they're out of coffee and trying to commiserate with me about it because they forgot I don't like it. I am not impacted by your predicament, dear coffee drinkers! I shall drink my diet coke all the way to my desk!1 -

Does it count if I don't like coffee but i drink a lot of it because i really like sweetened coffee-flavored cream?
I do like olive oil but was only introduced to it as an adult. My mom cooked exclusively with crisco0 -
Legit if I need extra calories from fat at the end of the day I’ll just pour some EVOO in a shotglass and shoot it lol0

I don't think it tastes like anything, weird! That's the reason why I don't care for it-don't want to waste calories on something with no flavor lol.0 -

For me it's most noticeable during cooking. Smelling anything sauteeing in olive oil is like instant appetite, even if I just ate But I can easily see how the strong smell could be unpleasant to some people.0 -

Agreed! With the exception of a few cold applications, it's almost neutral. Sesame oil, now that's where it's at flavourtown wise.1 -
Cheap olive oil is tasteless - in more than one way.0

If it is just that you want to use olive oil, purchase plain olive oil versus Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Lots of people suggest plain olive oil for cooking applications (smashed potatoes) and Extra Virgin for cold applications (salad).
Extra virgin has that "bite" you find unfavorable. Plain olive oil does not.1 -

Me too!! With a drizzle of GOOD quality balsamic vinegar in that strong - the strongest most pungent olive oil - with crusty sourdough artisan baguette?
I could smash more than 3000 calories I think LOL1 -

Most likely you didn't have extra virgin olive oil (EVOO), which has a distinct taste. Less likely, there is something wrong with your taste buds
I didn't like EVOO until I had a sample of Olave, which comes from Chile. Anyone know if they have since gone out of business? Tried to look this up for my mom and google was not helpful. When I stopped seeing Olave in the stores I switched to California Olive Ranch. I use EVOO for foods like salads, and for cooking use safflower oil or something with a higher smoke point and lower cost than EVOO.
I'll have to try a European EVOO to see if I still don't care for them or if my tastes have evolved.
I got the $1 introductory bottle of olive oil from these guys https://www.freshpressedoliveoil.com, received the Chilean EVOO, and gave it to my mom. We both liked it very much, but I didn't stay in the program because I felt their post-introductory price was unnecessarily high.0 -

Never learn how to make no knead bread. Baguettes, and really crusty bread are unfortunately the easiest ones to make haha0 -

I should clarify -- high quality extra virgin olive oil has a very distinct taste to me. Regular refined olive oil doesn't really.0 -

Yeah, you gotta get the kind that just wafts out when you open the bottle, especially for baguette because the bread cuts the sharpness a little, so it has to be extra sharp to make up for it.0 -
I don't like olives, ergo, I don't like olive oil (for the most part). I prefer good EVOO instead of butter on my bread (if I put anything on my bread) and good EVOO on pasta with fresh veggies and no other sauces.1

Oddly, I love olive oil but am extremely picky about olives. I think it's a texture thing. I love cream of mushroom soup but hate mushrooms as well.0 -
I love olives, they are one of my favorite foods.
Funny about the mushrooms vs. cream of mushroom soup. I love all cooked mushrooms except that cream of mushroom soup tends to turn my stomach -- I think it's a holdover from all the terrible casseroles (which I refused to eat as a kid) that used it, even though I know there are good versions of it. I mostly don't like uncooked mushrooms, but occasionally I don't mind them on a salad (although I'd not add them myself, I'll add cooked mushrooms if I want mushrooms).0
