Hello,
My wife’s doctor recommended this app so I’m giving it a shot as well. Im 52 yrs, 6’1 and now up to 340lbs. My main issue is that a VA doctor badly botched a back surgery so I live with chronic pain 24/7. Between my knees, back, and shoulders exercise is an issue, though I still try. Bad eating habits is more of an issue than cal intake. I usually rate once or twice a day and the food I can afford is garbage as far as being healthy goes.
The app suggested 1 lb per week then said I need to eat 3500 cal per day, that’s about 2k more than I eat now. I changed it to 1.5 per week and it dropped the cal intake to 2610. Still high but I will see what happens. My weight has me concerned especially since I was always very active and could eat like crazy and never gain a pound. Then over night I went from really active to hardly being able to move.
A few years back I was badly burned in a fire and spent 3 months in the hospital the reason I bring it up is I lost 25 lbs during my stay on a 2500 cal diet and being forced to eat 4 times a day. This confused me, how can I increase cal intake and loose weight just laying in bed?
Needless to say I’m willing to try almost anything to drop this weight, short of getting burned again.

You may be eating more than you realize. Little handfuls of things as you move through the day can add up, and many folks don't realize they are grazing. Some people also measure their food incorrectly, or just eyeball servings. WHen this is the case they can be eating many more calories than they thought. I encourage you to take a few weeks to just accurately weigh or measure everything you eat without making changes so that you can figure out if there are any small changes you can make that might help you to drop weight.
Edited because I forgot to add: Welcome to MFP, @Kilad0 -
So far intake has been as expected. I’m even logging the hot tea I drink unsweetened. Day one I was 0ver 600 cal short of goal and yesterday was over 700 cal short. My daily goal is set at 2310 for 1.5 lbs per week.0
