Hi Guys. I've been using MFP for over 5 years now but have started gaining again. I would love to lose 3kg in the next 2 weeks if possible and not sure how to go about it. I am on 1400 calories per day and exercise 4 times a week burning approximately 2000 calories in total. How many calories should I be consuming per day. Thanking you in advance Jo

6lbs in two weeks is not healthy unless you are really obese and even then it's pushing it. Adjust your expectations.18

Try keto. Less than 30g of carbs per day and fill up on healthy fats and protein. All you have to count is carbs.
3lbs. per week is aggressive but doable. I wouldn't try it more than once.
I managed to lose 10 lbs. in 16 days by eating around 1100 calories per day. Then I stopped because my blood pressure dropped significantly!47 -
All you need to do to lose 3kg (6.6 llb) of fat in 2 weeks is eat 1,650 fewer calories daily. (You might be able to lose a bunch of water weight via restricting carbs, but that's not fat, so why bother?)
But since you're already eating only 1400, you can't, so you just have to stop eating entirely, and do 250 more calories of exercise every single day.
Keep in mind that when you do this, you'll be super tired, sleep lots, do little, maybe even get sick, and burn fewer calories than usual because of fatique and rest . . .so maybe you'll need to exercise 500 or more additional calories worth every single day instead.
Does this sound like a healthy, practical, good idea?
Nope. Nope. Nope.
So revise your expectations.
If you're eating 1400 total and not losing, but gaining, there's already some kind of problem, unless you're already light, petite, and/or old. It could be logging issues, medical issues, energetic issues, or some other thing.
Step 1 is to figure out the reason.
Why the 2 week deadline?
Why 3 kg by then?
What's your age/height/weight?
How do you estimate your exercise & daily life activity?
Has anything at all changed in daily life recently?
Do you log every bite/taste/lick every single day?
Do you use a food scale?
Do you have unlogged cheat days?
Do you have unlogged "oops" days?
Etc.
I'm not trying to be harsh. (Think of me as your concerned but frank internet auntie who cares, because I'm surely old enough to be.) I hear your anxiety and desire. I'd like to help (and so would others), but I need more information in order to do that.
For sure eating less to lose 3kg of fat in 2 weeks is not the answer, because it's not realistically possible.
Hugs, and best wishes - truly.24 -
I am confused because you have before and after pictures that show a fair amount of weight loss so you must have some understanding of how this works. Did you mean 2 months instead of 2 weeks?

You consistently give bad advice.27 -

I follow a Keto Diet and this is terrible advice. 3lbs per week is not doable and is stupidly aggressive when you only have between 6-7lbs to lose. Yes, some people do that when first starting Keto, but often times, they are significantly overweight to begin with and this is clearly not the case for OP. Also, 1100 calories per day is less than the 1200 minimum that most recommend. As you limit calories, it is more and more difficult to get all of the essential nutrients that you need, which is one of the main reasons for the recommendations to not drop below 1200. Seriously, you are one of the reasons that Keto gets a bad reputation, please just stop with your terrible advice, you are making the rest of us look bad.
OP - a 2kg loss in two weeks is very aggressive and I would highly recommend against doing that. You would have to restrict your calories far to severely, likely getting to a dangerously low level. I'd instead re-focus on what helped you to lose the weight in the first place, likely a moderate calorie reduction, and maybe even a slight uptick in your cardio activity, and the weight will come off, you just need to give it more than 2 weeks, and probably more in the neighborhood of 10-12 weeks. Good luck.12 -
I have a trip to Bahamas scheduled in just over a week. I too would love to lose weight in a hurry. I’d also like to win the lottery. Neither of those things is going to happen (I don’t buy lottery tickets). I’m going to address the situation by buying new clothes that make me happy. Not quite as good as losing weight before I go but works wonders still. I suggest the same for you (assuming there is an occasion involved rather than a weigh-in).14

Perhaps my question was a bit stupid, but that's all it was, a question. Some of your comments were harsh and unnecessary. In future I won't bother with this site8

Thank you for your scarcasm, it's greatly appreciated!!3 -

No, I did mean 2 weeks. I've been hearing that your calorie intake should be based on your BMR and I'm not sure that's how it works that's all5 -

They weren't harsh though. They just weren't what you wanted to hear.
Your expectations are unreasonable and need to be revised. Full stop. I'm sorry you're disappointed by that, but it's the truth. Would you rather it be couched in sugary sweet language as though you were a small child?13 -

Interesting.5 -
Because your expectations are unhealthy and nearly impossible, "we" are big ol' meanie do do heads for pointing it out?5

One of the common manifestations of a condition associated with excessively large deficits and commonly known as being "hangry" is that people have trouble responding to the actual message but instead they formulate objections based on their perceptions of the semantics of the message.bryant1969 wrote: »No, I did mean 2 weeks. It is often considered unwise to eat below your BMR for an extended period of time.
It is often considered wise (and definitely so by me) to limit your deficit to 20% of your TDEE when mid to low overweight or normal weight, and 25% of your TDEE when you have more fat available to lose.
If the numbers you give in your example are accurate (intake 1400 x 7 = 9800, exercise 2000, => net = 7800 = ~1115 per day), you are probably not eating above your BMR and it sounds as if you're barely meeting minimum calories.
Weight loss does not happen on a time-table. But if you adhere to an appropriate process, it DOES tend to happen, eventually, on an approximately close enough time-table. Assuming your time-table made sense in the first place.5 -

You should stay and you’ll learn which ones to block. That’s what the ignore option is for. Don’t let people run you off 😊

People on here are very sensitive, and if you don’t follow their “ideals” of weight loss prepare to be attacked. Not everybody wants to spend a year losing 10 pounds, so I get where you’re coming from.
I see that, thank you, I was begining to wonder if it was just me. I only asked a question 😕, anyway I'm done with this 'community'. I'll just carry on about my business in peace2 -

You said that yesterday. This is an extremely nice and helpful community. It also sees a lot of questions each day from a lot of different people. It can sometimes be brief and it can certainly deliver messages that the asker doesn't want to read. That is what you get on a board restricted to adults with people giving out free advice.9 -

Nobody was harsh, nobody was attacked, we are not "sensitive" you can't afford to be if you are going to post/comment on a public forum. If you read the forums properly and check out the people giving you the advice you will see that this community, especially the long time succsessful ones do not have "ideals" when it comes to weight loss. In fact thay cover a very large spectrum of ways of eating. Therefore there is a vast amount of knowledge to draw on if you are prepared to listen/read and heed the advice given.
This community is amazing in my opinion. The incredibly knowledgeable and helpful people, who take the time to patiently answer the same questions over and over again year after year purely to try an aid the less knowledgeable in their weight loss/gain/maintain journeys deserve a *kitten* medal.
If you reall feel you need to "rage quit" then at least wait until you have actually been treated badly.
