Any ideas for great abs after 60?

Hi, everybody! I just turned 62 and I'd love to improve my abs. My body tends to accumulate a little fat on the tummy area and I don't like it. Would you please recommend me exercises that I could do at home and that hopefully won't be too difficult or demanding? Sorry to say, I don't possess the elasticity of a Cirque Du Soleil trapezist, lol! Thank you all.

There are literally thousands of routines on YouTube.

For home workouts for when I’m travelling and can’t get to the gym I tend to stick to these three.

    They’re simple and effective.

You can add weight or complexity as you progress.

(I avoid high impact like jumping jacks, don’t feel I need that stress on healthy joints.)

A calorie deficit, if you are overweight, will be needed. If you are happy with your weight do a recomp, eat at maintenance and increase your strength training intensity over time.

I will add for older women, and men, a protein level in the range of ~ 1g per lbs of lbm is good for muscle retention.

Here’s me at 65, no abs, but not too bad.

The same routines for those under 60. But the issue of fat in the abdominal area is all about diet. Can't see the abs if they are covered by a fat layer.

Lose the fat layer. Which is not fun, especially for a female, who is designed to have a bit more fat anyway. All those women with visible six packs? They dieted very hard to get there, many lost their periods, and also, they don't usually stay ripped all the time because it's not actually good for you.

But, ab workouts will help grow the ab muscles.

You still won't see them if they're covered in fat though.

And also, why? Have you looked at the "does my uterus look big in this?" post? Someone with more computer skills than me will link it for you.

    Here is the ‘uterus’ link.

The only two women representing the over 60’s are on page 2.

I know age shouldn’t make a difference, but it does, in subtle ways. We have had more time to slow down and lose muscle, we have a better chance of having illnesses and injuries that can curtail or limit our workouts, we could have grown up in an environment where exercise wasn’t encouraged (that’s me).

If this is you getting back into exercise, or starting for the first time, take it slow and build at a pace you are comfortable with, but still pushing yourself. Nothing more off putting than injuries, easier to collect as we age, or burn out.

    Cheers, h.
