Just saw the action on this thread. Wanted to address concerns around the 'double standard': women have a different anatomy than men do (yes, believe it!); also, different women are differentially prone to unsexy things happening in/around the hooha area (scientific term) when it's messed with even by something as innocuous as hair removal. Some of the things that can happen, can harm health. Men are not so biologically vulnerable. That's why.

Was is the double standard in quotation? You gave a reason for the double standard, that doesn't stop it from being a double standard.

That would be like me being a total dbag to everyone tomorrow but explain that I didn't get enough sleep and that is why I'm being a 'dbag' .

it's not a double standard if a difference in treatment of two different groups is justifiable, rather than due to bias. whatevs, ok wikipedia (which honestly is good enough for this purpose):

A double standard is the application of different sets of principles for similar situations, or by two different people in the same situation.[1] A double standard may take the form of an instance in which certain concepts (often, for example, a word, phrase, social norm, or rule) are perceived as acceptable to be applied by one group of people, but are considered unacceptable—taboo—when applied by another group.
The concept of a double standard has long been applied (as early as 1872) to the fact that different moral structures are often applied to men and women in society.[2][3]
A double standard can therefore be described as a biased or morally unfair application of the principle that all are equal in their freedoms. Such double standards are seen as unjustified because they violate a basic maxim of modern legal jurisprudence: that all parties should stand equal before the law. Double standards also violate the principle of justice known as impartiality, which is based on the assumption that the same standards should be applied to all people, without regard to subjective bias or favoritism based on social class, rank, ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation, age or other distinctions. A double standard violates this principle by holding different people accountable according to different standards. The phrase "life is not fair" may be invoked in order to mollify concerns over double standards.
    ---

the issue (according to me anyway) is medical/hygienic, not moral.

Really? No one rocks the 70's porn bush? Humf.

All I'm saying is, when the porn changed, men's tastes changed... and women's taste changed as well. I think it's pretty sad that a lot of people consider a natural body to be "GROSS"

I think it was more of a "you are allowed to groom that?" realization.

I have back hair....I find it gross even though it is completely natural. Therefore, I get de-pelted by a native american woman who then weaves it into throw rugs to give to orphan racoons whose parents died in the Great Battle of Fern Gully.

she told you she was giving it to orphan racoons? She lied! I've seen them for sale on ebay!
