@PastorVincent cake for lunch is acceptable if you are running and not “not running”. I passed up Panera cookies cuz I can’t “stomach” the thought of potentially going to the OR naked with a few extra extra pounds... but, that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t snarf some cake, GF or not...
Maybe you should fish a bit regarding the marathon for Kristi? Uh.... I’m hoping she dropped the hint and you listened like the well trained husband you are, right? I swear, if mine did that... well, I can’t run or walk, or bike, and don’t think swimming is “fun”... but I’m soundly against anyone making a decision for me, just in principle. I might be psychologically combative, er oppositional defiant.
Let us know how it goes.... or maybe she’ll pop in a let us know how it went. Hint hint. I think you should do it over a nice dinner, like a proposal, “Kristi, I’d like to spend 6 hours with you under extreme physiology duress, dehydrated, hair a mess, and chaffed skin in all the wrong places: (on one knee you go)... will you run a marathon with me?” (Present registration framed). ETA or that 26.2 car sticker. 😉🤪😧😬11 -

@PastorVincent Tell her the day before.
Or, just wait until she is feeling strong, but sometime in the next few weeks.
Or, tell her for XMas and make it a "gift." Then she has to run it...5 -

I’ve had a tough time getting going on my last couple of runs. I did make it out on a long run on Sunday - 4.88 miles, which is less than the 5.5 I’d planned, but I still made it around lake #3 and back home without too much pain. My left glute has been chatty the last few days and my poor lungs are still recovering from our brief relapse into smoking (fingers crossed that’s done now).
Yesterday I biked to the gym - it’s max week, but I was definitely not feeling it for deadlifts after two weeks off, so my 200 lb PR is just going to have to stand for now. I did give it a go with the dumbbell presses and managed 1 set of 2 and 1 set of 3 floor presses with 35 lb dumbbells, which felt pretty awesome. The next time you need someone to lift 70 pounds over their face while lying on their back, I’m your woman!
It hasn’t been the year I wanted it to be for running, but there’s nothing I can do about that now. This morning I slept in instead of running, but decided that my mantra this week is going to be Just Do It (thanks Nike) - sometimes it’s a good idea to take a break from something for all sorts of reasons, but today is not that day, not for me.
So around noon I went out and ran 3.48 miles around my home lake. It wasn’t perfect but it was still wonderful. My glute was whining a bit at the beginning, but I managed to hit a decent stride after a little bit and actually hit The Zone for a couple of miles in the middle there. The last mile was a bit tough and I did have to walk a couple of times (stupid lungs) but this was the best run I’ve had in quite a while, and my pace was about a minute per mile faster than it has been, much closer to where my easy runs were last year.
I didn’t hit any of my fitness goals last week, but I was on vacation so f-it. Looking good so far this week.

@PastorVincent looking at photos of that cake is making me want to snack.... Must. Resist!
I'd definitely go with dressing up the race entry as a lovely gift, maybe over a nice dinner or on a special occasion, if you have one coming up...3 -
@PastorVincent I really like @Elise4270's idea. But probably be wise to do it sooner rather than later 😏4

7 miles at 11:00 per mile. 90% cardio, 10% peak - I'd like to tell you all I'm still working on that, but I didn't really give it a whole lot of thought today.
I've got some weekend plans that will screw up the run, run, rest rhythm, so this week I'm going to see how I tolerate 4 run days followed by 2 rest.

Thanks @emmamcgarity and @kgirlhart. I'm pretty proud of seeing some muscle in the photos! Progress!

Treadmill warm-up before strength training again today. Both the run and the strength training felt a little blah today. And then work was a lot of blah. I'm ready to go to bed early tonight.7 -
@PastorVincent That cakes looks delish!!! I'm so jealous.

I'm finally adding my run from Sun. It was supposed to be around 20 miles, but was actually 11.6 miles. And it was very slow. I need to get an earlier start this next weekend so I can finish as it is getting really hot and actually have most or all of my miles in by then.

So I was mostly joking... this is what really happened.

I have not run since the races. Been in job interviews! But I think I will have time tomorrow. I am hoping to have an offer (maybe 2) by the end of the week, and then I will accept something and hopefully start getting paychecks again soon. This will be my worst month in years for running I am sure.

I ate the last of the cake today, figure that way I will not be eating it all week. That is a valid diet technique, I am sure of it!

@MegaMooseEsq Yep. No looking back. You can not change anything back there. Just take today and work forward. Good job getting out there and getting it done!5 -

Total: 80.79 miles
Notes:
Well yesterday was supposed to be my day off from running, but Manny decided he wants to start running again so I kept him company on his first run back! It was just 1 mile, and at a super easy pace for me, so almost as good as a complete rest day haha. I'm really excited that he is getting back into running! Though it means I'll need a new photographer/#1 fan for races
Today was a double day- easy five miles in the morning before work, and then "track tuesday" first thing after work. On the menu today was Deek's Quarters- 8x(400m @ 5k pace/200m float). My goal was 1:50 for the 400s and 1:10 for the recoveries. Actual splits were 1:47/1:09, 1:50/1:11, 1:50/1:09, 1:49/1:10, 1:48/1:11, 1:48/1:12, 1:46/1:10, 1:44/1:07. Pretty on target for the 400s, but I was a little slow on the 200 floats. The first few felt really easy and I kept having to remind myself to slow down. By the 4th or 5th repeat though I could start to feel the toll that the float recovery was taking- not nearly enough for my HR to drop or breathing to ease up completely. Then I was really glad I didn't go too hard in the first few Overall it was a great workout, and I ended feeling strong and like it was easier than I expected! Also garmin informed me afterwards that my lactate threshold pace improved by 4 seconds so I guess that's a good sign. I have some foam rolling planned for tonight, and then hopefully a trail run tomorrow morning if I can get myself out of bed in time!
Thanks @Teresa502 @ROBOTFOOD @Tramboman @Scott6255 @rheddmobile @PastorVincent @katharmonic @kgirlhart for your kind words on my recent race! Y'all are too kind

0814-3.2k total 49.6k goal-130k
Today's run was supposed to be 13km. I've been pretty stressed out lately and haven't been sleeping well, so that's probably why it felt awful from the get go. That and a bunch of other factors. Anyway I slogged out 3km and gave up. Just didn't have the mental fortitude to stick with that for 13km.
Going to try again tonight.9 -
8/13: 3mi club run. 108f so really not able to run paces at all. Pretty much just survival running. 10:00 pace in heat feels like 8:00 on the TM under the AC.
