Craving fresh fruit (unusual)

Do cravings generally mean anything? This week I’ve been recovery from a very bad throat infection and flu and was on antibiotics. For the last five dats I’ve been craving fruit all the time and Greek yoghurt. It’s all I want. I’m usually a savoury person and not big on fruit so I’m really confused. Any insight?

Have some fruit and yogurt within your reasonable caloric goals? When my deficit is large I start craving things. Often eating something completely different still stops the craving. Of course at other times it doesn't!

If I had to guess, fruit which would give you plenty of good stuff like vitamin C which will help with recovery and yoghurt as it can help restore the healthy flora in your gut which antibiotics can interfere with.

I always believe that when you have been or are ill your body is good at letting you know what you need nutritious wise. So if you're craving fruit go for it.

100% agree with this! It’s really no different than the well established idea of pregnant women craving specific foods. Definitely your body’s way of telling you it’s lacking something in the way of nutrients to fight the illness and recuperate.

Eat the fruit! It’s good for you! 😂

I am not a great fruit eater either. But I do get days when I crave it and usually end up eating a big bowl of fruit salad. Our bodies often help us to know what they need. Vit C is my guess.

Eat as much as you like just keep it within your calorie goal.

This is exactly what I was thinking. I am prone to yeast infections from antibiotics, so I always try to eat more yogurt(low sugar) and take a probiotic or two. Since it's summer, the fruit is so good and hydrating right now. Just use moderation in your choices😁

Maybe you are dehydrated from being sick and your body wants the moisture from fresh fruit.
I always seem to crave fresh fruit when I'm thirsty.

I drink 3 plus litres daily. I drink whenever I think about drinking, never feel thirsty so I don’t think so

I am not as convinced it is as clear cut as your body sending you a signal for specific nutrition. If you were not eating your maintenance calories while you have been ill and recovering you are probably just hungry for energy. You could just as easily be responding to an advertisement or an old memory as some internal need for vitamin C, etc.

People are driven to eat all kinds of crazy things like dryer lint. We have to be careful saying that your body knows best because it is really just your subconscious which takes it cues from a lot of sources.

With that said since there is nothing harmful about fruit so unless you have to watch your carbs for medical reasons there is no reason not to enjoy some.

ETA: Also seems to me that a savory person who "needed" vitamin C would crave bell peppers not random fruit.

I often have my cravings change when I'm sick, and fruit would be a common thing for me to crave. (I think it's more about wanting simpler or blander food or something that feels comforting from childhood or something. In the winter it might be soup, but in the summer I mainly like cold soups and don't have comfort associations with them and also cooking feels like work if not feeling well.) I also crave fruit in the summer, especially when it's hot (and I also drink lots of water). I think the last time I was not feeling well I ate mainly oats and yogurt and fruit, and I don't particularly crave or eat oats most of the time. So I don't think it's weird or to be avoided (especially since fruit does have lots of micros and is hydrating).
