Over 100lbs to lose. Can I do it this time?

I am 28 years old. I just had my first child and I cant imagine being around without him. I'm concerned as a mother because he is getting bigger. He is about to turn 7 months. Soon I will be chasing him everywhere and I'm not upset about that, I'm concerned about being able to play with him. To be able to go down a slide with him or swing. Be old enough for amusement rides and cant because mommy cant fit in the rides.
You think spilling like this I would have the motivation to do something but if you been overweight your whole life, you know where I'm at and what I'm saying. Trying to lose weight is almost like suffering from insanity. I keep trying again and again and again...'this time will be different!!' And then it's not. I'm so tired of it. I need help. I need more inspiration. I need support. I wish I knew how to control my impulses. To not give in.
Anyway, that's how I feel. I hope I can do this. I hope I can find support and in return be supportive. Good luck everyone.

Welcome to the MFP Community.

Remember that you didn't put on all the weight on a short time, so it won't come off in a short time either. You need to change your mindset that this is not a diet, it's your new lifestyle. You don't have to change 100 things at once, cut out a ton of foods, etc.
Start simple. Log everything you eat and drink using the food diary here on MFP. Once you know about how much you are currently eating, you'll know what kind of adjustments to make. Can you lose 100 pounds? Sure. Do it one pound at a time and don't give up.1 -
I lose five pounds at a time, over and over again. It is less daunting that way.
I focus on what I can eat, rather than what I can't eat. I try new things regularly.
I make sure I have lunch and/or snacks with me so there is no excuse to stop for fast food when I am running errands. Nothing against fast food, it is just really hard to make good choices when you are starving.
I incorporate treats into my plan.
For exercise, I focus on what I want to be able to do to stay motivated to move today. A 20 minute walk today will make a 15 mile hike possible down the road.
I forgive slip ups and get back on track with the next meal.
Most (all?) of us got obese due to an unhealthy relationship with food. I was an emotional eater. I am building a new tool chest to deal with the various emotions that led me to eat when I wasn't hungry. Yoga and general exercise for frustration and stress. Duolingo language learning for boredom. Get out a bit more to deal with loneliness...3 -
You are so smart to be looking at getting it off now! I lost 100 lbs at the age of 59-60. If I can do it at that age you can do it as young as you are. I carried that weight most of my life. The awful truth is that you will continue to gain over time if you don't get a handle on it now. And you are right it affects your ability to have fun with your kids. It did for me for sure. My weight crept up slowly. In high school I was about 20 lbs overweight so you can see how it progressed as I got older. I went on every diet that came along over the years and had some small successes but I never found a program that I could live with for life. Finally I came here deciding that I didn't want to have a stroke and I knew I had to get the weight off soon because I was pre-diabetic too.
What was different this time was that I decided to build a plan that was specific to me. I quit trying to lose the weight fast. I found some exercise I liked and started very slowly so that I would do it. I found things I liked to eat that were lower calorie, ate smaller portions and logged every single day. It took me 2 years but I have reached goal and have maintained for 2 years. The first year I lost 80 lbs. The last 20 took almost another year but by then I was fine with that. You can do this. Take your time and if you slip don't quit. Forget about 2 lbs a week. Do what you can live with. It's better to get there slowly than to never arrive at all.1 -
Welcome to the community!
If you haven't already, read the link referenced above. Very informative and helpful.
I've been overweight my entire life. As someone else also mentioned, I have mini goals of 5 pounds. That means I'm always close to reaching an attainable goal.
Good luck with your journey!1
