What’s the next diet trend?

It used to be low fat. Then it became low carb. And intermittent fasting. And over the last few years you have seen the vegan group surface. I am wondering what the next big one will be. Low fat, low carb, low sugar, low calories and even low protein for that matter have all been covered. I’m wondering what the next big thing is gonna be. I don’t think keto can last forever.

Haha, good question! I guess we will see. I'd be interested to see if anyone has any ideas.0

What about a raw meat diet or does that already exist, too? 😩0

About time for a new acv, cabbage soup, etc diet to come along, isn’t it?
Pick your food.
I’d choose a hot dog diet. I’d really like that!0 -

Already a thing. Hardcore keto-ers do the Carnivore diet, some eating only raw meat.

How about Pegan? The paleo/vegetarian combo diet? Haven't seen that one posted much yet.0

Can we please have a pizza diet? 🙇8

Paleo did it! Some extreme offshoots of Paleo did raw meat.
I don't even know anymore. Low carb was a natural progression for Paleo, but right now I don't know what the natural progression out of low carb would be. Trends that stick around for a while are usually either a progression or a reaction, like the Atkins era was a reaction to the low fat mainstream and IF was a reaction to "breakfast is the most important meal of the day". Are we going back to low fat? I don't see that happening any time soon. Maybe something like intuitive eating would gain more traction since being fat is more and more acceptable now? Or a diet that advocates less meat because meat alternatives are getting better and better? I really don't know.1 -
^Yes please.
I remember reading as a kid about "fruitarians" (basically vegan except you only eat the fruits of plants, thereby not killing the plant itself) and I keep thinking it's only a matter of time before that manages to be the next big thing.1 -

I'll see your hot dog diet and raise it to a corn dog diet.
I'm considering paying $20 entry fee to the fair today just so I can spend another $8 on a corn dog, because I love corn dogs.7 -
How about a BALANCED diet trend?
Monday: vegan
Tuesday: paleo
Wednesday: pizza
Thursday: Keto
Friday: vegetarian
Saturday: OMAD
Sunday: iifym27 -
Loving my "fad diet". Carnivore keto geek reporting in. Plus an OMAD'er. WE are as crazy as people think we are. (yes, even the standard keto and 16:8 intermittent fasters think we Omad carnivore keto'ers are out of our minds.) But we look good.2

I don't know, but I want to write the book and make a fortune!3

I don't think Keto is going anywhere anytime soon. When I first came back here about a year ago, I hadn't heard about Keto except on this board. Now I see my Facebook friends posting about it. I dont think it's reached its peak yet.
The other big thing that is coming plant-dier/meat replacements. That is taking off big time, and only looks to explode in the next several years. I don't know if you can really call it a "diet trend", because the people who eat them still sometimes eat meat, but I do think that people eating plant based replacements for meat is the next "thing"4 -
Don't know, don't care.5

The eat dirt diet. Not kidding.1

We can only hope and pray that the next big trend is the ‘educatarian’ diet.
It requires people to educate themselves about nutrition and how their body’s work before embarking on some crackpot scheme.14 -
That makes way too much sense and, in this instant gratification society we live in, would never get off the ground. 😉1

Keto-Diet is actually almost 100 years old but it was not meant to be a weight loss diet first.0 -
I’m thinking vegan or super high protein0

I wish the next big thing would be counting calories instead of some easy alternate way of achieving the same means. I could see the fake meat trend growing even more with all the vegan meats booming right now, but who knows.
It drives me nuts how I work in healthcare and patients complain every day they can’t lose weight “I eat low carb and can’t lose. All I eat for breakfast is fruit and whole grain bagels with butter and cream cheese, only whole grain, so I don’t know why I’m not losing weight” or...”I only eat fat free no sugar ice cream it’s only 90 calories”. “Well how much ice cream do you eat” “a half gallon but it’s only 90 calories and low sugar low fat” *facepalm*7 -
The insectitarian diet.4

Replacing meat protein with insect protein is growing in popularity so that is a possibility. I would definitely try it.1

I've eaten a few different types of insects in their whole forms (cooked, though, not raw). I've never tried any of the insect protein powders or powder-based foods. I've got no problems with it conceptually.
But I do expect that like lots of other things that are perfectly reasonable options in moderation, or things that work well for some people even in a less moderate approach, somebody will eventually proclaim that a diet based largely or exclusively on insect protein is the absolutely best-est-est way for all the people to lose weight, with secret magical fat-burning and life-extending powers.2 -
I would love the next trend to be "Customized Diet". Where people educate themselves, keep a journal and see what works for THEM!3

I should really check into it. It gets tiring always being sensible. It might be fun to believe in food magiks.0
