Vegan and protein

I just started the began diet because my bf wanted to give it a try, so I thought why not? Any groceries I should get, and also what are good protein replacements? Thanks.

Beans, Lentils, Soya TVP, Tempeh, Seitan, Pea Protein, Tofu, Quorn, nuts, the list is honestly almost endless these days. I’m sure I’ve missed a few off the top of my head.
You can either choose to cook at home or there are increasingly more vegan meat replacement products in the shops.
I’d suggest you do some research though, because you’ve made it sound as if you’re going vegan on a whim, and you will have to work quite hard to begin with, especially if you’re not sure where to start, to make sure you’re adequately replacing all the essential amino acids and vitamins and minerals you need for health. For example start your research with B12.5 -
I'm on the Negan diet. It consists only of pork.

My gut reaction was that "began" was "vegan+bacon". I'm a horrible person.
But I'm not a big meat eater, so when I need more protein I usually go for lentils and tofu. When I'm lazy I'll get soy protein meat. I do eat some animal products though so it's not as hard.0 -
A really good evidence-based (i.e., scientific, not whack-a-doo) site about vegan nutrition is:
https://veganhealth.org/
It will tell you about nutrients that may require special attention as a vegan.
I'll let some other people suggest sites for vegan recipes (there are lots of them, with good stuff, but I (1) don't use recipes, I just cook, and (2) am vegetarian, not vegan, anyway.)
I don't particularly encourage people to become vegetarian or vegan unless they have ethical reasons to do so. It requires very slightly more attention to get adequate nutrition, and is slightly less convenient**, compared to being an omnivore. It isn't necessarily healthier, or better for weight loss.
(** Because of things like graciously handling dinner invitations to the home of people who are omnivores (especially if it's your new boss or something ), travel in very meat-centric places, and that sort of thing. These are far from insurmountable, but without strong reasons for going on a special dietary route, why? I'm not saying don't do it at all ever, obviously: I've been vegetarian for 45 years now.)7 -
I think of everything in a protein to calorie ratio and make decisions based on that. There's a lot of vegetables that are really high in protein that often get overlooked in a standard diet, so there's tons of options! Here are a few of my staples off the top of my head:
Whole foods: Mushrooms, broccoli, dark leafy greens, asparagus, zucchini, cauliflower, edamame, beans
Processed foods: soy yogurt, Boca burgers, tofu, tempeh, soya pieces, tofurkey deli slices, lightlife veggie hot dogs, powdered peanut butter1 -

If your bf happened to be inspired to eat plant-based after watching "The Game Changers" you may wish to read our thread on that: https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10770007/anyone-watch-the-game-changers-documentary/p1
I'm all for less consumption of animals for ethical and environmental considerations, and it will be an easier way of eating to adopt if you firmly believe in that, rather than some unscientific health claims.1
