Steps? Walking?

Hey guys sorry I didn’t know what to put as the Discussion title lol
So yesterday basically I did 15,010 steps walking (I work in a fast paced job)
So I’m unsure on how to input
It asks me how many minutes performed. Now I work 13 hours a day so with a break and probably slacking a bit I’d say I did walk for 9 hours
But then it comes up I’ve burnt like 2660 calories.
When I look on google it says for everyone 2,000 steps I’ve burnt 100 calories
So I was just looking for advice on how to input it into my fitness pal 😊 without making myself look like I’ve climbed a mountain haha!!
Thank you xx

What activity level did you select when you set up your account?
If those steps are generated from your normal daily activity (your job) then you’d have to select a higher activity level than someone who just goes for a long walk every now and again. The person who walks for leisure like that and has an office job, for example, would enter the walk as purposeful exercise and have their activity level set as sedentary or lightly active.
However, if it’s part of your normal routine to be that active it should already be accounted for in your base activity level (very active) so would not be separately entered. Otherwise you’re double counting that activity.7 -
I would set your activity to reflect those steps if thats your norm to 'very active', then you don't need to log those steps as they are included.6

Thanks guys x
I put slightly active.
I’m a healthcare assistant in a hospital so I’m on my feet walking and sometimes running if there’s an emergency but I only work 2-3 days a week so that’s why I didn’t want to be cheeky and put more active xx

And what do you do on the days you're not working? your average steps from those days? you could average out your steps per week and if you are getting more than 10k/average per day, change to 'active'.

Being a lazy bum haha!! Well not today, or for the passed few weeks, I’ve been shopping till I dropping haha!!0

Translate into miles...then Miles x weight in lb x .3 = calorie burn. Put in whatever time you deem appropriate for walking but manually over write cals it gives you. MFP over estimates walking by 50%+ so if you are doing a lot of it, it will mess up your goals if you use MFP estimates.0
-
Since you know your steps, is it from a device or app that can be linked to MFP? In that case, you wouldn't need to figure out anything.2
-
If you are trying to lose weight how long have you been at it?
Unless you are battling with hunger or fatigue I think trying to figure out activity levels [u[initially[/u] is a waste of time other than just picking something that is reasonable and going for it.
The best way to manage yourself is with your own numbers. If you are losing slower or faster than expected after enough time then you can adjust your settings. If you experience a large weight drop in the first week to 10 days then make a note of the weight just after and the date. After 6 weeks weigh again to determine how much you have lost. Divide that number by six and see how your rate of loss compares with what you told MFP you wanted to lose. If it is more than .3 pounds different then you need to adjust how many calories you are eating.
This all assumes you are weighing your food on a food scale and personally verifying the MFP database entries are correct as much as possible.0 -
I would not consider your job as anything but active, I've seen how nurses work. In terms of fitness it's a lot of calories a day! "Lightly active" mean (I believe) a desk job, but workouts at the gym 4 times a week before/after work. I mean that's me, and what I put, so...2
-
Thank you Jennifer xx
It’s just I only do 2-3 days a week and the other 4-5 days I’m a lazy butt haha! So I didn’t want to be greedy and say yeah I’m active 7 days a week as I’m not
But thank you x it’s made me feel better x

Hello
It’s from the health app on apple iPhone...I tried to download one before and didn’t realise the health app works for tracking steps but unfortunately it doesn’t turn it into calories.
So when I put it into MFP I’m putting like for example
60 minutes x 9 (for 9 hours walking at work) = 690 minutes
But when I put that in it calculates I’ve burned 2660 calories and surely that isn’t right.
I’ve google and for every 2,000 steps you burn 100 calories so all in all that would be 600 calories I don’t know

Hi novus.
I’ve only been doing this for a few weeks.i did this before and lost weight but I never put in the exercise because I used to let’s say faf about the house doing sit ups here and a davina McCall work out DVD
I don’t need to lose weight per-say as I feel my frame is good, just I need to lose the fat that is making its way round my belly.
But MFP is helping as Its making me realise what I’m eating is no good for me.
I’ve chatted what I would normally eat on a normal day and now I’ve started to chart properly what I eat now in diet days
I was just.l curious how the exercise thing worked that’s all xxIf you are trying to lose weight how long have you been at it?

But OP isn't asking about deliberate walking, she's asking about steps taken during her usual routine.
If you log every single step taken as exercise, then of course you have an over estimate. A fair number of steps are already included in your activity level. You don't want to double count those.

Yesterday I walked 8023 steps and got 99 calories for that. I think 100 for 2000 steps is too much. BTW I am set on MFP as sedentary.1 -
Hiya Cheryl x
Yes I’ve just done the same.Ive done what someone said above about linking my steps to MFP and for 7000 steps I’ve burned 82 calories so I’m a bit disappointed that for a days work I’ve only burned probably twice that
As I said my frame is okay just need to lose my belly flab lolcheryldumais wrote: »vhopkins1988 wrote: »Hello

Yeah, that's the downside to not having alot of extra weight to lose, lol. When I started out I got alot more calories for those steps but I was 251 pounds back then.0
