Yes, there are rules and if you think a rule is being violated, you can use the "flag" option on the post. The reason this one hasn't been shut down is the original poster is heavy enough that one gallon a day would not be unsafe. Unnecessary and no help to their weight loss efforts but not unsafe.3 -
A gallon of water is 16 (8-oz) cups. As I relatively small/medium person (5'5", weight mid-130s), I routinely drink 7-10 cups (experience-based goal, best results for me) - just water, on top of coffee and other hydration sources.
A gallon would be an unnecessarily large amount for me on an average day, and I'd be running to the bathroom a lot, but I seriously doubt it would be a health threat, as long as it was spread over the day.
I suspect it would fall into that "unnecessary, annoying, but not really health threatening" category for most otherwise healthy people, as long as not chugged in one go or something.
Every silly idea doesn't need to be a health threat to be worth critiquing.
My larger worry would be that if someone becomes convinced that a gallon of water is universally essential (or even widely helpful) for weight loss or health, they may also be falling for other poorly-substantiated ideas, potentially more dangerous ones.
But I do tend to be a bit of a cranky, anxious internet-granny fussbudget curmudgeon type, I guess.9
