69 years old female...5'5" ...I used to be 5'7" but arthritis hit and I lost two inches, so now that two inches is squished around my waist like the billows of a big accordion...
...Oh, well. I'll just keep working on it.
Trying to get back to walking 5 miles a day. A pinched nerve and back surgery side-lined me for about a year.
Left hip and knee bothering me a lot. Hip Doc said surgery in April. Ugh!

Round 98 (My 20th!)

Goals for this round:
1) Stay hydrated.
2) Log carefully and maintain a calorie deficit.
3) Walk or exercise 30+ minutes most days.
Day/Weight/Comment
12/09 β 176.4 β Typical Monday morning bounce, but it should be gone in a few days if I stay on track. Rain all day. No walk, so I started cleaning out the pantry β something I should have done months ago β and thinking that my grocery shopping habits are due for an update to match changes in my eating habits and lifestyle.
12/10 β 176.0 β Squeezed in a drizzly 30-min. walk after my morning class before the rain picked up. It felt good to be outdoors! Late dinner, but under my calorie limit. Tonight was my last evening class this semester π
12/11 β 175.4 β Snow!
12/12 β 175.6 β Forgot to post yesterday, but it was a pretty good day. The sun came out and melted most of the snow on the boardwalk, so I got a good walk in after my classes. Then went home and made a big pot of soup. Met my calorie and hydration goals, although I had a salty sandwich for lunch. No walk today but met my calorie goal. Need to drink more water.
12/13 β 175.6 β
12/14 β 175.6 β Feeling festive! Got our tree today, then went to a Christmas Market at the beach, where I got lots of steps in and picked up a couple of neat gifts. Dinner out and some extra treats put me over my calorie limit, but it is the holidays.
12/15 β DNW β Busy day. Never got around to logging or posting.
12/16 - ??? β Weighed in this morning but forgot to note it and by now Iβve forgotten. I know I was up though. No big surprise since I wasnβt really paying attention this past weekend. Last week of classes with a few last-minute student issues, so Iβm pretty distracted. I did finish my logging though and I made good food choices today. I even baked some amaretti for a meeting tomorrow and kept my taste-testing well within my calorie limit. But Iβm really struggling to stay hydrated in the dry heated air.

End of round 97 135 (0.6 up from end of last round)
Day/Weight/Comment
12/09 135 β 4.31 miles walked yesterday. Celebration weekend over, back to the straight and narrow, need to lose these few pounds by the end of the round; feeling confident.
12/10 134 β 10.59 miles walked yesterday. Good to see the celebration weekend gain start to come off !!
12/11 134 β 7.24 miles walked yesterday.
12/12 134 β 11.88 miles walked yesterday and an hours yoga. All macros in green.
12/13 134.8 β only 2.23 miles walked yesterday; Thursday is my day for child minding my 20 month old DGS, we met up with my DS & DGD (aged 14 months) and we drove to a farm where there is a great soft play area, nice and dry in the persistent rain.
12/14 135.4 β oh dear! Hoping this is due to the sodium content in the gammon we had for tea last night. Just over 10 miles walked yesterday.
12/15 134 β yes there's the sodium drop! 6.22 miles walked yesterday.
12/16 133.4 β 9.16 miles walked yesterday, all macros well in green.
12/17 133.4 β 9.5 miles walked yesterday, just over calories as met up with a friend and had a 3 course Christmas lunch with all the trimmings and a glass of bubbly, however, I was so full that I didn't (need to) eat for the rest of the day!! Does this constitute IF?
Definately not going to meet my 3300 mile target for the year, but with two elderly relatives with dementia in hospital for more than several weeks at a time and me being required to stay with them the majority of their waking time this is to be expected. Oh well there is a new year looming !!

I hope you don't mind me asking what IF schedule you're doing. If it's making you feel sick, a different, less restrictive plan might be a better option. IF shouldn't make a person not feel well. It's meant to do the opposite. Just a thought.
Just for context, I do 16:8 everyday as a sustainable dietary plan. This time around, it's been about 5 months.
Hi! thanks for your message! I've tried various plans of IF but each time after a while I get very bad gastric reflux, from what I've read some people are more prone to this than others unfortunately and I've always had issues with GERD. I find that I can do 2-3 weeks of IF I'm fine but I need a break for a month when I start feeling unwell. It's a pity because IF really works for me! Have you had this issue?2 -

Date β Weight in of the morningβ Summary of the previous day:
12/09 154.2 Starting this round with the weekend bump, but hoping to get is back down again soon! I've been stuck in the 154.x for quite a few rounds now which is frustrating but I don't think much will change until January with constant dinners planned over the next two weeks. On another note, I went to the gym yesterday for an elliptical and bike workout, still no problems with my hip, I'm pleased I can at least do that and I worked up a good sweat. Today is rest day and will go again tomorrow.
12/10 152.6 (-1.6) A good quick post weekend drop! I had some chocolate yesterday but skipped dinner to compensate, ok not the healthiest of options but the chocolate was goodLast night I found a killer workout on youtube and today I'm hurting all over, it was sort of kickboxing, really fun! I'll have to do it again!
12/11 153.6 (+1.0) Up again... yesterday there was a business lunch and nibbled at some specialties, and also didn't have time to exercise so that was a miss. I've been looking back at my eating patterns and my lunches are where I've been adding up calories this last month so I need to go back to my previous lunch eating plans. I don't know about you but I'm finding the dark days and cold weather draining, it's hard not to compensate with comfort food
12/12 153.6 (-0.0) status quo, on track yesterday and nothing special except being very tired. I didn't have time to exercise, and it looks like it might be the same today. There's a lot of work to get through before the office closes for two weeks over Christmas.
12/13 153.6 status quo, good thing with what I ate yesterday, can't complain
12/14 153.6 No change, I was sick yesterday so stayed home. Today is rather busy, badminton this morning which will get me moving. Shopping for some Christmas decorations as I haven't bought any in 3 years and mine are starting to look a little worse for wear with the cats playing with them.
12/15 155.6 (+2.0) Weekend bump due to poor choices so I've only got myself to blame, 1h gym thank goodness to limit damage
12/16 155.0 (-0.6)[ doing Intermittent Fasting this week to help limit damage with the 3 lunches and 2 Christmas dinners planned. I'm going to keep doing IF for the next 3 weeks (any longer and I start feeling sick). Migraines are back, probably due to a combination of stress, lack of sleep and the rich food which I'm no longer used to.
12/17 153.6 (-1.4) IF did wonders to get the weekend bump quickly back down and I was under calories yesterday. Today is a different story as I have the office Christmas dinner which is a 3 course sit-down affair with the vegetarian main course being truffle risotto, delicious but definitely not diet friendly lol At least as I don't drink alcohol that's one area where I won't be adding empty calories! I'll be going to the gym at lunch to burn some extra calories ;-)

THERE ARE NO QUICK FIXES OR SHORTCUTS to achieving permanent change.
REMINDERS One or two thoughts which might give heart to some of you.- Daily weight fluctuations are normal, and can be as much as 2 lbs a day for no apparent reason.
- A general downward trend is what we are looking for.
- Eating out can cause apparent weight gain because of high sodium levels, but usually goes quickly. Drinking extra water helps with this.
- The human body does not react instantly to what we do to it. Sometimes it can take several days to see results.
- Plateaus are a normal part of the process. The body is consolidating and adapting to your new way of eating/exercising.
- The closer you get to your goal weight, the more difficult it becomes to lose weight, as your body becomes more efficient at using what you feed it.
- When you exercise you build muscle, which takes up less space than fat, so use measurements as well as weight to assess your progress.
- Getting/Staying fit and healthy requires a lifestyle change for most people.

12/09 β 146.5 (BF 33.4%, MM 62.8%)
12/10 β 145.5 (BF 33.2%. MM 62.9%) β I had such a busy weekend, I didnβt have time to post. I know I didnβt eat very well, so Iβm actually surprised to see a drop today.
12/11 β 145.5 (BF 33.1%, MM 63.1%) β Iβm very glad I didnβt bounce back up today.
12/12 β 145 β (BF 33.1%, MM 63%) β I managed to get a 25 minute workout in last night.

12/16 - 146 - My computer at work was down on Friday and then I was so busy with Christmas decorating that I didn't get a chance to hop on here. I did keep logging my weight though. I am really struggling to behave myself with all the cookies and candy around the office and my house. Since I've been in maintenance this past year, I hadn't had a real problem staying away from the goodies, but there's been some extra stress at work and home and the quitting smoking has added to the snacking. Other than the two parties coming up, I'm really going to try to buckle down this week with my calories and water.
12/17 - 146.5 (BF33.3%, MM 62.9%) - Tuesday bounce which is expected from the weekend.

@deepwoodslady - Trust me, if I weren't logging here every day, I know my weight would have skyrocketed more than the 5lbs I've gained since I quit smoking. Reading your posts, along with so many others here, has been a real inspiration to me.

12/17 - 155.0 - Takes one day to put it on and several days to take it off. But I'm okay with that. Yesterday I couldn't tell if the winter storm brought in such dry weather that my sinuses and throat were just dry and sore or if I was sick. Good morning to me, I'm sick. Just a head cold but I feel miserable. Its enough to make sleeping horrid so all I could do with my alarm this morning is moan and say "its only Tuesday... I quit." Ah, well. Coworker got me one of those Airborne tablets for my water and luckily for me, I still have a small stock of honey and tea in my office cabinet. I'm not going to let this get me down! Brought leftover beef stew for lunch and have chicken and rice soup for dinner. Its soup season in my household! Thinking chili and hamburger-vegetable soup are on the menu in the coming weeks.

Previous Day's Comments12/09
12/10
12/11 - Okay, not bad for traveling! Back to where I was before BF left. In the truck all day Sunday, unpacking Monday, and car all day yesterday. I'm extremely dehydrated (its a 12 hour drive, I didn't want to stop too awful much by overhydrating) but I did end up sweating in my sleep quite a bit last night that just overcame me. Big water bottle came with me to work today to remedy it. I'm now officially on my own in Kansas. BF text me on my drive in that I need to hurry up and move down because he's meeting all these amazing people and wants me down there to partake in the fun. Guess its going to be a lot more job applications. I do get to call a recruiter today, though, so hopefully he can help a lot more than I can do on my own. Hoping within 6 months I'll be headed down there. Money-wise I'm hoping my bonus and tax return will assist with said move, otherwise I'm going to be in big trouble. But we will figure it out, as always. That's what budgets are for, right?
12/12 - Had our big Christmas lunch here at work yesterday. I was so stuffed it hurt and didn't get hungry again until about 730 (my neighbor was just making food and kindly offered me some since I didn't have dinner made). Surprised I'm not higher, honestly. Scale did flash higher a few times but settled in on this number so I went with it. Depending on today, it may show up tomorrow. Especially since I'm feeling rather sad. Normally I wouldn't be seeing BF on Wednesday night but I felt the lack of his presence anyway. Thankfully my neighbor is so wonderful and took me in. He's from Texas and would love to move back, but because of his kids, he cannot so he understands my homesickness very well. I will get through this! It is only temporary (: Y'all help, as well, by distracting me with your successes and general day-to-day life. I love it!! Gets me through the day.
12/13 - Honestly very surprised I stayed the same. I ate a lot more yesterday and had a few drinks a little later at night. Also woke up later as I got to sleep in today. I'm happy with this! Hopefully this weekend I can focus on prepping meals (whether that be cooking or just putting a plan in place for this week) and start back on a downward trend. I'm also hoping that I can get into the gym at work a couple times a week now that BF is gone and sitting at home is really depressing right now. Good happy endorphins for the win! My neighbor downstairs is also helpful. He is from Texas but stuck in Kansas due to his divorce and agreement with the kids. He lives alone when his girls aren't with him so we will probably hang out and keep each other company more often. Definitely helped last night. Was on a downward spiral so I went down there for tacos and football. Within minutes, I was in a much better mood, I just needed a friendly face and a distraction. At least I have him and the ladies across the street to keep me going until I can move.
12/14 - whoosh much? Definitely thought I gained by wow, I'll take it!! Made homemade chicken and rice last night to get me through a few days and got some of my leftover beef stew out so I could mix things up a bit and not get too bored. Feeling pretty okay with my eating despite not being primal like I want quite yet. Also, go Army, beat Navy (west point grad, I gotta cheer)
12/15 - I apparently was right to feel comfortable-ish with my new eating habits. They aren't great, but they're better than eating out all the time. Hoping in January I can start refining my nutrition more while continuing to see a drop. I can't believe I'm this far down, especially after I spent almost 6 months getting down to 153.x before ballooning back up to my (January) start weight just a couple months ago. Proof that mindset is a HUGE factor in my weight. I need to take measurements about now to make sure these drops aren't destroying my muscle too much. Was going to do that this morning but got distracted by the snow (I hate snow, so its not necessarily a happy distraction). Guess I can try tomorrow before work or I'll have to wait until next weekend. I plan on getting back to the gym this week, goal of 2x/week until I rebuild my habit and can increase the frequency. Hoping to maintain or drop again tomorrow instead of a Monday morning weekend bump up
12/16 - Um... what? Guess the weekend bump is inevitable? I'm going to chalk this up to hibernating inside as we got hit with a nasty winter storm yesterday. My neighbor ladies made chili for dinner and I do believe it was rather salty. Mix that with some slight dehydration and we have the perfect concoction of Monday morning bump up. Drive to work, which normally takes 20-25 minutes, took a little over 45 minutes this morning. That's after I slid out of my garage on a sheet of ice (my driveway is a giant hill). But I made it safe and sound, now to stay inside all day and pray the snow doesn't continue like they said it would.

Goal for this round is to stay in the 133's. I have three weeks before my trip so if I can make it to the 132's that would be outstanding!
12/09 133.8. ate too many calories after doing so well on Saturday.
12/10 133.6 I'll take it, but will need to be careful today. I sense some self sabotage coming on...
12/11 133.2 I ate the cookie and a small piece of black forest cake, but I also exercised and was careful the rest of the day. This evening I'll be cooking so that's good because I won't feel like eating cookies π
12/12 133.6 this evening there's a holiday dinner. I realize I'm actually much better at events than I am usually. I'm so careful. But when I'm at home, little less. I think it's because I'm counting and weighing, oddly enough. Need to think about it!
12/13 134.4 that holiday dinner was not great. I tried at first. Minimal appetizer. Then they brought a plate of butternut squash ravioli and they were drowned in brown butter sauce. I hate that stuff. It tastes like nothing and makes everything so greasy. So I tried to eat the least greasy ravioli and had two rolls out of irritation. Anyway. Sodium in the rolls. Sodium in the pickled veggies for appetizers. I'm not going to stress about this because it will be fine.
12/14 133.6. see? Fine! I drank a lot of water. Also migraine made it so that I could not eat too much! Friends enjoyed the dinner but I didn't. I didn't want to cancel and have all that food around.
12/15 134. Lunch out at a friend's with a very large portion. Leftover dip...that'll do it. Even though it bounces around a bit I am hopeful that im going in the right direction.

My workouts last night were interrupted by a tornado warning. By the time I brought everything up from the basement, it was too close to my bedtime. Still, I had a fabulously productive day yesterday! I picked up 27 pounds of bones and a beef heart and have 2 crockpots simmering with bone broth which will be ready this afternoon.

New Day - New Start
Hi, my name is Deb. I'm 57 years old and 5'5" tall. I've fought my weight my entire life. After 35+ years "dieting", I still have not figured out what works for me but I have to keep trying. So...
I know its two weeks before Christmas which is always at least a 5 lb gain for me, but if I don't start again right now, it will end up a 10-20 lb gain.
12/9 - 180.4 - I haven't been tracking (actually writing down) what I eat. I'm going to start that today. I haven't been exercising. I'm going to start that today. I am in the habit of posting on MFP here in this challenge (yay me) and will continue by posting my calories, exercise and moods. I love coming here and reading about and sharing in everyone's journey.
12/10 - 177.0 - Good Start. Calories: 1126. Exercise: 20 minutes on the treadmill.
12/11 - 175.0 - Another good day. Calories: 1193. Exercise: 30 minutes on the treadmill
12/12 - 174.6 - Staying on track. Calories 1271. Exercise: 40 minutes on the treadmill
12/13 - 174.0 - Calories: 1091. Exercise: 30 minutes on treadmill/15 minutes on bike.
12/14 - 174.0 - Calories within limit but had salty crackers with my vegetable soup. Exercise: 80 active Fitbit minutes.
12/15 - 174.6 - Calories were a little over due to a glass of wine but the sodium in my veggie soup caused the gain I think. Exercise: 38 active Fitbit minutes. 10657 steps
12/16 - 174.4 - Calories were under, 60 minutes on the treadmill. Put up the tree and wrapped gifts. Spent the day inside looking out at the falling snow. Yesterday was a good day
12/17 - 174.0 - Calories under, 80 active fitbit minutes. Sun is peaking through. Snow is pretty. Roads are clear. Day is looking good.9 -

12/10 158 lbs stuck to food plan, today.
12/11 157.2 lbs
12/12 156.6 lbs
12/13 158.4 lbsI was surprised by this; yet, on the other hand I was not. I have been doing better the last couple days as far as food... but obviously didn't stick with my plans and it was still too much... just didn't show up until, today, I guess... Still not giving up!

Hi, Iβm Karen and Iβm 53.
OSW-187 Sept. 2018
Gym weight lifting class 2 x week
Walk +/- 7 miles 3 x week
Drink plenty of water, alcohol on weekends only.
12/9-171- Salty dinner out.
12/10-169-Hopefully a walk today, the rain is finally gone.
12/11-167-Got 1/2 of walk done and then went and shoveled mud for hours making trenches. Grueling but worth it; Iβm sore.
12/12-I refuse to weigh today. I did half of my walk, went to work, then a party......I think I can be back down tomorrow.
12/13-167-Now I can go into the weekend not up from the party. I am heading to the gym....itβs cold & foggy for a walk.
12/14-167
12/15-167-A party yesterday with tons of carbs and sweets. I just lightly picked and drank coffee.
12/16-No scale-Traveled to see our boys, took one to get his wisdom teeth out while the other one worked. Got to stay with my uncle and do my Christmas baking. My son was doing great, so we turned around and drove back home, after eating the last 4 meals out.......I am off to the gym this morning, knowing for sure I will weigh less tomorrow.π10
