Hi All
Learned about the fat burning benefits of Yohimbe HCL and looking for some real word feedback from the folks on this forum. My use would be for getting rid of stubborn belly fat via the alpha receptor benefit it supposedly has.

Tried it about 6 years ago. It did nothing. A general rule of thumb with these thinks is: if it's legal it doesn't work and if it works it's not legal.8

Okay I have a question, I guess more for @mmapags since he tried it.
How would you know if it worked? I mean, I'm assuming that people buy these gimmicks when they are already trying to lose weight and are therefore changing their food and activity etc. So - by what measure would you know? I always wonder.
Now if I could take a pill or supplement that would make me uninterested in bakery goods...I might be in.2 -
Just a snippet from a report I found about this supplement:
“Reported side effects include hypertension, anxiety, rapid heart rate, abdominal pain, hallucinations, incoordination, confusion, chills, lethargy, lupuslike syndrome and renal failure, according to a 2010 study in The Annals of Pharmacotherapy.”
Why would you?6 -
Renal failure!?!? Yikes.3

Pointing out potential side effects is a little bit of fear-mongering. For example;
"Agitation or combativeness
anxiety
confusion
fear of impending death
feeling, hearing, or seeing things that are not real"
Yohimbe? Nope, that's penicillin.
All supplements I've had that have yohimbe included other ingredients, namely caffeine (hydroxycut, for example). These do help with energy and appetite suppression, but as they're a mixed bag I can't speak for yohimbe standing alone. I am happy to report an absence of renal failure though.
As with any supplements it may assist in helping you eat less and/or workout more, but taken alone without behavioral changes will likely not produce noticeable results.
I'd say if you can find something at a decent price give it a shot, but don't approach it with unreasonable expectations and obviously if you experience adverse side effects give it a rest.3 -

When discussing side effects, it's common to weigh the potential side effects of a drug against its potential benefits.
Penicillin is a substance that has saved millions of lives.
The OP is talking about a supplement that is likely to do little or nothing for them.
I think it is therefore unreasonable to compare these two drugs.11 -

When I took it I was in a calorie deficit. Over the month or so it took me to deplete the initial supply, there was no discernable difference in fat/ weight loss. I lost at the same rate as previous to using it. No more, no less.8 -
Not used it but having read up on it via https://examine.com/supplements/yohimbine/
I think you should proceed with caution, especially over actual dosage taken (dosage matters with any drug for effectiveness and avoidance of risk), when to take it and potential conflicts with other drugs.
BTW - see nothing to indicates it targets particular areas of fat storage, that sounds more like marketing playing to wishful thinking rather than science.7 -
Better off adding more exercise. Burn more calories guaranteed with no potential side effects!2

The point is not to draw a comparison between the two drugs in terms of usefulness, but rather to point out that pretty much every drug will have a myriad of potential side effects, so it's simply unfair to list a products side effects as a reason to discount it's usefulness. This was my point-as you supported in noting penicillin has saved millions; side effects alone should not determine whether a product should be used. Posting side effects is merely fear-mongering and can be dangerous (see anti-vaccers).5 -
Thanks for all the feedback ;-)
Turns out Yohimbine HCL is not even available in Canada or at least in Ontario where I live. As for side effects I did hear about several, although renal failure is pretty serious just for me to lose some belly fat. Probably better off taking it slow and steady with the workouts and macro vigilance. Seems that bloody belly fat is usually the last thing to go - first world problems I guess.

I used it and read Lyle McDonald’s protocol on how to use it. I didn’t see much change tbh. It does cause some water retention which can mask weight loss. I didn’t experience any adverse effects like palpitations or anything. I wouldn’t mess with it again.2

So over-training isn't a potential side effect? Or increased risk of injury?Justin_7272 wrote: »I think it is therefore unreasonable to compare these two drugs.

I am rather surprised by the amount of disagree's. Given the efficacy as related towards fat loss, a person would have to evaluate if the potential risk is worth the gain. Hell, even Creatine has side effects.6 -

Any of you yohimbe users notice the aphrodisiac effects mentioned https://examine.com/supplements/yohimbine/ ?1
