First, please allow me to say that I am so unbelievably humbled by this bike and I honestly don't think I could ever deserve it.....but you can bet I'll do my damnedest to get as close as possible.

The person who gave it prefers to remain anonymous and I respect that, however I will unabashedly thank Craig Gaulzetti and his Summer Cycles shop in Del Mar CA for designing and building this beast of a racing machine. For all you gear heads out there, it includes:

Ultegra Di2 RD electronic shifting
Ultegra drivetrain
Disc brakes
Spinergy GXC custom carbon fiber 50mm disc rims with carbon spokes
12 speed Super Record EPS shifters, brakes, and derailleurs
DEDA 35 aero carbon bars

I have never jumped up and down and squealed like a little piggy before. Really, feel like I never could deserve it.

That's awesome! It reminds me of the track bike of the friend of a friend that was custom painted in glittery pink colorway.

That is one sexy machine. I quickly fell in love with my Ultegra Di2 shifter and drivetrain setup.

    Two questions:
    1. Pedal based Power Meter?
    2. Most importantly, will you be rocking a pink kit and upgrading the garmin wrist band to match?

    1. Right on. Despite the "A List Bling" on that ride, you know its ALL about watts. ;)

    2. Well worn 920XT in black/blue = instant long course cred.

Have you chosen a venue for the coming out party? IMMT, IMLP, IMCT 70.3, other?

Funny you ask! Going to research when I’m back home. New job, new life, likely only 70.3

After a year long rehab, my first race will be the South Beach Miami Oly distance tri in April. That should be a fun warm up race to test my achilles. Also signed up for the Patriot 70.3 in June (though we received a wedding invitation for the same day, ugh).

Getting some pressure from my Iron brothers to race either IMLOU or the new Memphis 70.3 this year, but I'm not signed up for either one yet. IM full distance race returns to Coeur D'Alene Idaho in 2021......thinking about that one.

My dad and his friend volunteered for that one a couple years ago! (Or at least I think that was it, there is a T-shirt floating around here somewhere). He was blown away by the sheer numbers of it as he headed back to Moscow, passing signs for what seemed like forever... he was an avid MTBer while I was growing up, biking for PhxFD (AZ) and doing more trail ride type things.

I have my first Sprint Tri this spring, I can’t even fathom the longer distances!

do't do it!! their kits are awesome - but the WORST Customer Service in the world - you order a kit that is custom made and they tell you 8-12 weeks and many ppl are getting theirs in the 6+ month range; if they screw up kits they won't replace them (my unofficial fb tri team got LtP kits and while the samples were the right color, all the other kits weren't - but according to LtP the green that they came out as were because the grey was stretched)....

@Djproulx knows i'm twisting his arm about CdA in 2021 pending my military schedule - lol!

my vote for a first depending on where you live
    - Lake Placid 70.3 - i mean you finish on the olympic oval;
    - Santa Rosa (in CA) - i did it as vineman but its a fun course
    - if you like small town, then eagleman in June in Maryland (but there are jellyfish occasionally)

Ooooh, Lifetime?! That's my old team's "travel away, rust buster!" I was thinking of doing it this year!

But now I'm super excited and trying to plan more exciting travel. Santa Rosa would be such a dream....have to manage work/romance on the side. But I'm definitely itching to sign up for something.

Was looking at Musselman because it's apparently easy and local.

The Idaho is supposed to be a toughy IIRC. How's your Achilles doing?

Yikes! :/ Good to know, thank you :/ Maybe better luck if orders aren't custom?

I was biking, over the summer, behind a girl who could have been their rep. Won't lie....It was mesmerizing.

Di2 is awesome. I have Ultegra Di2 also, it's fantastic. So are road disc brakes. You got one hell of a bike! Looks great too!

Get rid of the wheels though. Or at least do a lot of homework on them. Spinergy made some wheels that would break on people while in use. Sorry to be negative, I'm not trying to pee in your cheerios, I just don't want any cyclist to get hurt ever.

@deannalfisher - I'll admit that regarding racing IM CdA, not much arm twisting will be needed.

@goatg - I've also heard the CdA course is challenging, but I'd rather "embrace the suck" of a hilly bike course than pedal for hours on a pancake flat course that feels like an indoor trainer ride. And you should enter the South Beach "rust buster" Oly. Quick bike ride around southern Miami followed by rehydration in Little Havana should remove any lingering oxidation that built up over the winter. :)

re: 70.3 options, couple more venues came to mind. IM bought the REV3 Maine race. IM Maine 70.3 received good reviews from my tri club pals. Rolling bike course was fun, and the water in Sept isn't that cold. If you want a more exotic option, a few of us have been thinking about the IM Portugal Cascais 70.3 race. Its supposed to be a beautiful place, and lends itself to a vacation in Portugal/Spain following the event.

ohhh yeah i forgot that one - i did it when it was Rev3 - but i would comment - small touristy town and things like parking etc are expensive ($10-$20 a day just for parking) - but the course was awesome

I'm going to do a lot of research on them now, thanks for the info. I know other wheels have been recalled --I'll take a look.

(Apparently that was the Rev-X which was discontinued some time ago)

I appreciate the good info. Seriously. I was cycling in France this past summer on pretty decent rented bikes. I was with a group climbing Deux Alpes and we had stopped for lunch. 30 seconds off the bike a riding member's tire just flatted. Literally....just flatted, fine to gassed in ~20 seconds. We were ALL doing over an hour of descending per day, usually doing 25-40mph around switchbacks (many without guardrails and a steep drop). One of the scariest *kitten* things I've ever seen on a bike was that flat, even though we were all standing around. At that speed....That could literally be your life. Only a total novice/idiot would be pissed at your recommendation.

    Yeah. Thanks again.

I love climbing. Love, love, love. Only problem is there are no hills in Boston. I've done the CdA on an indoor computrainer! Lol. Don't knock it! That 14-15% grade felt real lol.

    Hahaha. I should do it. April 19....I'm traveling 4/5-4/13 (&2/5-2/15, and likely another week in-between). That's a lot travel....and excuses. :)

Did I mention I signed up for a 70.3? In CT, 5/31 <3 I might do a late season full....

I'm not really in with tri people anymore :( I'd love to do something fun, rent a place. At Lake Placid I just stayed at a hotel but a bunch of my friends AirBNB'd a 4-bedroom place. Maybe Santa Rosa....I have a special relationship with wine country.
