I had a bit of a write-off day health wise yesterday. Didn’t really log, no exercise. And this morning I have a new low weight - typical! Anyway, managed a good long run of 8 miles and feeling much more on top of things today. Lots on the list - hope I can get through it.

196.8 on scale this morning. I did well yesterday until after 9 last night. I’m sure a lot of the weight gain this morning is sodium and getting all my water in today will help.
@mytime6630 - I think that is a great compromise on your daughter visiting. I hope that it brings her some contentment.
I wrote a diary for a few months but never kept it up, like you I wish I had that now. We think we’ll remember things forever but that’s just not the case.
@cschmitz110515 - sounds like a lovely vacation. Happy you enjoyed it with hubby. You have a sweet dog.
@Faebert - good luck going back to school, this must be a very stressful time to be a teacher and a parent with children in school.
I am laying in bed as hubby is asleep on the couch. Our window is open a crack and it sure feels like Fall. So much so the furnace has kicked in. I’m expecting an Amazon delivery today with some new lights for our living room. Since it’s getting dark so much earlier already I am really struggling to read out there.
I feel like it should just be May or June.

Last night was stressful. Our immediate neighbors are wonderful people. The night before, some *kitten* had thrown rocks and apples at the back of our next door neighbor's house. The same last night, just rocks this time and now, a broken window. Police were called but due to a protest downtown (why are these "protests" after dark?), couldn't come until early this morning. We believe the culprits are the same young teen girls (GIRLS) seen (live?) in the area roaming around after dark, banging on patio doors, ringing doorbells, flipping off drivers that almost didn't see them walking in the middle of the road (my hubby coming home from work), up to no good and lots of trouble. Apparently, "known punks" to the area parkies. We are hoping by the police asking around the neighborhood, this *kitten* stops.

Ongoing plans/ideas behind the cut1. Purchases: Look for an "ugly Christmas sweater" and a long-haired doll at thrift stores. Practice French braiding. Go to used bookstore and look for On Writing (Stephen King), Dying for a Paycheck (Robin Hardman), The Prince (tr. Tim Parks, Russell Price, or Robert Adams), The Secret Adversary (Christie).
2. E2: What should the controlling ideas be in a study of world literature? Review world lit options. Create vocabulary lists for each unit that come from the texts used: Animal Farm, Julius Caesar, Wes Moore, I Am Malala. Find a way to incorporate changing words from one part of speech to another. Students need to know how to review multiple sources and synthesize information in order to draw a conclusion. Need practice with the difference between transitions and overlapping (at end of paragraph - "another issue is Y" vs "there are other issues besides X"). Quit using "in conclusion" and "I believe" and other writing-about-my-writing phrases. Confusion between direct/indirect objects and prepositional phrases. Use the UDHR and the Declaration of Independence to study paraphrasing; use that to front-load Machiavelli and how to deal with challenging texts. Confusion between everyday / every day and similar constructions.
3. E1: Need practice with quoting & paraphrasing sources, identifying claims that would need support, use of last names for reference, and capitalization practice (common/proper nouns, titles). Difficulty using possessive nouns in their own writing. Honors: practice subject/object pronouns (my friend and I / my friend and me). Poetry: Revise "Songs are Poetry" handouts.
4. Curriculum Development: Writing mini-unit. Review scholarly research on 5PE. (I think I can have this as an intro to the research unit so that they also get exposure to how quotes are integrated and cited.) Parallel structure; use of emotional language, specific detail. Do research on characteristics: curiosity, persistence, resilience, creativity, responsibility, optimism, courage, integrity, authenticity, leadership, self-awareness, humility, compassion - others? The care you are giving to your Mom and Dad are wonderful achievements. Spreading the love is very important in these troubled times.

I’m trying to think positively right now. I try not to worry about things that could happen and that are out of my control, but I’m a little nervous about today/this week. Hoping a situation sorts itself out. Sorry to be so cryptic. Lol! Anyone have good coping strategies for things you can’t control?
For today, I need to focus on things that are in my control. Starting with diet. I haven’t been on my game this month. I’m only up a pound, but I’m feeling it.

@cschmitz110515 😍 The dog and the sunflowers. Sounds like you enjoyed your staycation. I sometimes feel that my whole life is a staycation. Grrrr on the antisocial behaviour of those girls. They're probably the local 'mean' girls who lost their normal victims when the schools closed.
@Faebert It's just typical of the vagaries of the scale. Mine invariably takes a bounce up on weigh in day for my Challenges. And any drop is invariably followed by a bounce up.

Hi all, I've been struggling to make goals lately. Even the thought of it has been overwhelming. Yesterday I logged for the first time in a while. I feel mostly like a failure these days. It's like everything I touch falls apart. My latest parenting fail was last night. I can't find my youngest daughter's social security card and she needs it to be able to take her Learner's Permit test for driving which is scheduled for today at 3:00. It takes 10 days to get a new one, but the next time there is an open appointment at the DMV is over a month away. She is crazy disappointed and it is all my fault. If I'd just looked for it when I scheduled her appointment, this would be taken care of. Or if I just hadn't lost the darn thing.
And of course there is this weight loss thing. I did great in July, but August turned me upside down. I look like a stuffed sausage in my riding kit. Spandex is not flattering on a cow. Failure... Oh well, in hopes of getting back on track, I'll set goals for today.

Scale read 198.0 this morning. Yesterday was a down day, I was missing the girls and grands, had nothing to really keep me active and engaged. It was cold, windy and miserable and that didn't help my mood at all.
Today is a new day and I'll get it back together again.
@cschmitz110515 - What a terrible thing for your neighbourhood to have to deal with. It seems the world has gone crazy. Beautiful photo of the field of sunflowers.
@clicketykeys - Thankful for you that your test was negative. I have a coworker at home waiting for a test result now. Her Granddaughter also had to have one.
@SERmom3 - I found praying about problems I can't control has been the best thing for me. Also, when I'm stressed I look on Pinterest for positive quotes and share them on my FB. I hope whatever it is, resolves itself soon. To me the unknown is the worse thing to deal with.
@pridesabtch - You are very hard on yourself, I hope that your daughter is more forgiving of you than you are of yourself. Will they accept a birth certificate or other piece of identification. We aren't allowed to use our Social Insurance Cards for ID here in Canada.

@mytime6630 So glad your husband is done with treatments! I've been on hormone therapy for 8 1/2 years now...18 more months and I'll be done with that. So, although it sucks, it does go fast! Happy for you all! I think your compromise is good regarding your daughter. She probably needs her "safe place" even more in the world the way it is right now, so it's nice you found a way for her to be able to come over and come 'in'. I miss having my kids over. I have visited with my kids a few times outside but they won't let me come within 6 feet of them because they work in public and don't want to be responsible if we should get sick. So nice to see you back!
@littleblackskirt I turned 60 this year. It is the first birthday that bothered me a bit. But having had cancer, I am grateful to have turned another year older!
@cschmitz110515 That is pretty crappy these "mean girls" are vandalizing your neighbor's house. Are they doing this to other houses also, or do they have a problem with that neighbor? I hope we don't start having stuff like that around here. With everything going on in Kenosha, I've been feeling afraid for Green Bay. Love your picture of the sunflowers and love your profile photo!

Today, I plan to spend a lot of time downstairs in my quiet zone. I have many ideas reeling around my head as far as fixing the area up (paint, flooring, decor, etc.) but it all takes money and I'm not working. So that leads me to think about how I can perhaps make money at home, which leads to other ideas reeling around. Realistically, I'm not good enough at anything to make money doing it, but I keep trying to come up with something I can do from home because I am truly struggling to find jobs to apply for with the limitations I have. Health insurance is so expensive when you have chronic issues and meds, that it will be tough to remain home going into this next year and near impossible to make it to 65 for Medicare. But all things come when it is time, and I know the answer is just around the corner. I just have to be patient! (Patience is definitely NOT one of my virtues... LOL)

In office first time since vacation and read another email from idiot management sent while I was gone. Of course, they aren't stepping up, just assigning work to staff. Know other staff (without business skills) are looking for work to do, maybe I can get an assist. Grrr. Will do my best to meet multiple expectations, control what I can, and let the rest go.

2020 WOTY: PERSISTENCE
Happy me to see you back posting! Funny that we picked the same WOTY. I have to remind myself of it lots of times, through everything that's been happening.
The next door neighbor was not targeted to my knowledge. There's a swing set other side of their back fence and hubby and I think girls were on it to throw stuff over the fence, just for something different. Our house has lots of trees on our back lot & motion lights, so not an easy target. Other houses have had banging on patio doors and/or ringing of doorbells, not limited to our street or even immediate neighborhood. Last night was quiet, thank God.1 -

They require a social security card or a tax document with your SSN in addition to another form of ID like a birth certificate or passport. It's a real bummer. Some folks say they didn't even ask for it when they went for their permit test so we are going to go and hope for the best.1 -

Feeling apprehensive because my digital food scale has given up the ghost, and I am having to use an old mechanical one. My portion estimation is notoriously inaccurate. I will have to look for a new one when I go shopping on Wednesday morning.

A Big NO to everything I listed yesterday! Although I did do a little bit of weeding in the evening.
My Sister-in-law served cheeseburgers and cake for lunch, it was very nice lol. She doesn't diet, and I haven't told her I'm dieting. It was a lovely afternoon sitting in the garden, suitably distanced.
So as I couldn't guess the calories in that, I used it as an excuse to keep eating, telling myself I'd start again on 1st September. It's weird that one "junky" meal makes me want to eat more of the same, I find it easier to eat healthily if I stick to better foods.
So todays goals will be a rerun of yesterdays.

@littleblackskirt I am exactly the same about ‘good’ and ‘bad’ food. I think I might need to be more of an abstinence person than a moderation person. Once the sugar monster has woken up, it’s game over for me!
I had a great start to yesterday, but crashed a bit towards the end. Still achieved a lot though. Today I have smashed through this morning with two runs and lots of walking. I ran once for exercise, and the second time to practise my commute from school run to work. Unfortunately I have no childcare help and with the new Covid staggered start times in school, it will be very tough to get to work on time after dropping my little one off. Tough year of juggling ahead... 😔

Hitting a wall. COvid and weather really put a wrench in my race season and now starting to just feel burnt out a little. My eating habits have not been as good and I’ve been slack about writing goals. Yesterday I wrote goals but don’t think I posted them. Ended up not working out and missing my caloric mark AND having couple beers. I’m blaming sleep deprivation and stress. We are struggling here because our 13 year old toy fox terrier seems to be quickly declining. So much so that we are starting to worry if we should have her put down. Right now she seems happy but other times not so much. Vet says she has doggy dementia, liver disease and oh BTW she’s pretty much def and now also has to wear a little doggy diaper cuz she drinks, paces and pees when she’s not sleeping.
My daughter is not gonna do well with this...

Well, V couldn't take her Learners Permit test at the DMV without her social security card, and with Covid scheduling, the next available time for her to take the test isn't until November 4th. I feel awful. She was disappointed, but not angry or bitter. She is a good kid.
Had a meeting for crew for my oldest, S. It looks like they will get to do some small races this fall, but no big regattas. US Rowing is hoping to have spring regattas, but due to covid may only race singles. This is a huge thing as we have a small team with limited boats. Our team actually only has 1 single, and it isn't a light weight boat. Looks like my gravel bike money may go to buying a lightweight single for my girl. This is a perfectly acceptable option in my book. She isn't sure about racing the single. She doesn't have much time in one, so she is afraid she'll not do well. Fear of failure is a powerful force to fight.
Today we are doing senior rowing pictures. S is not big on pictures, but after today's crew pictures and tomorrows outdoor pictures she should get a break.
Lets try this goal thing again today...

The scale read 194.8 this morning, I knew it was a lot of sodium making it high and if I could get my water in I would be fine.
@PackerFanInGB - I have a friend of a friend that has started recording audio books from home. You just need a very quiet room and from my understanding the companies help set up the equipment. It might be something to look into. I have no idea how to go about it. UPS here in Canada has all of their office staff working from home now and a lot of telecommunication companies do as well.
I understand the ideas that swirl around your head when you're at home and there is a lot you want to do, but you're frustrated because you don't have the money to do the projects.
@littleblackskirt - I find I really want the unhealthier stuff when I have it too. You would think that you could just have a treat and go right back to it, but it's hard to do.
@Faebert - It sounds like you are going to have a very busy school season.
@teigansdad - sorry about your dog, pets are so much a part of our lives it is heartbreaking when they leave us. You're back today posting your goals, so that's the first step.
@pridesabtch - Sorry she wasn't able to get by without her Social Security card. Don't beat yourself up too much.
My back is killing me today, I know that the problem is my couch and my bed. We need both desperately, but they are so expensive. I am hoping maybe October we can get one or the other.
I have a lot of work to get done today so should get at it.
