Is the promise you made to your daughter not enough motivation?

If you're out walking/running in the evening then that should keep you off the drink in the evenings. So you just need to come up with a plan for your weekends, why not sign up to Dry January for charity, then you'll have more incentive, be doing something for a good cause, and if you are getting any peer pressure, it's a good way of putting a stop to it.

Those sound like great goals! My only advice is to try not to do too much too quickly. In the past, when I’ve tried to start everything at once it becomes overwhelming and I’m more likely to quit.

A couple years ago I decided to take baby steps. First logging what I ate, next adding cardio, then focusing on more nutritious foods and then strength training. I’m not at goal yet and have hit some bumps, but I’m in a much better place than I was 2 years ago!

I think your goal of an alcohol free month is important to you and your daughter. Personally, that would be the place I would start. I think if you stop drinking for a month and focus on logging your foods, you’re automatically see the scale start to go down! You might even start feeling more energetic and motivated to eventually start the C25k program. Alcohol has so many calories! Don’t buy it and don’t let anyone bring it in the house if it’ll be too tempting for you!

Best of luck! You got this!

Hey I was 23 stone (i used a calculator) back in last february and smoked 2 packs of cigarettes a day. You got to realize that 1.) You've made a promise and that as a dad, our word is our bond. 2.) You gotta drop weight to be around for her later on in her life. Keep your family/daughter in your mind anytime you think about wanting a drink. The easiest way to quit is to stop buying. Find activities/hobbies that get you on your feet and moving. The more you like it, the easier it is to stay consistent.

You can achieve whatever goal you put your mind to, but your mindset has to be correct. Once you won the mental battle, the physical battle is simple. Best of luck, add me if you wish to !

Perhaps this group found in the 'Challenges' area of the message boards could be a source of support for you in your goal to reduce/eliminate your alcohol intake. :-)

CBT/DBT, local groups for alcohol free support lifestyles, journaling, replacing the time you drink with another activity --like walking
