Ok, so im new to calorie counting and working out rice cals is confusing the heck out of me.
My packet states that 100g of Long Grain Rice = 127cals
But everywhere ive looked its more like 300+ im so confused and trying to create meals for 4 with rice is becoming a nightmare lol
If someone could offer some advice id be really grateful.
TIA ☺

It would seem to me that your packet is for 100g cooked to be 127 cals...that sounds about right. In most cases, the calories for things like rice are for dry weight so the other places you are looking are probably giving you 300 calories for 100g dry which would be substantially more than 100g when cooked.
Go off of the nutritional information on what you're actually using, no some random rice entry.2 -
Cooked rice could have a water content of 50% to 75%. No way to tell. You can't measure it unless you have lab skills and equipment.
Long grain rice has 3.5 calories per gram dry. Slice it dice it, cook it in a coffee pot it still has 3.5 calories per gram. If you weigh it dry you will know exactly how many calories it has. You make 100g of dry rice and it weighs 300g when you are done, the 300g cooked has 350 calories. (3.5 x 100g). And, if it weighs 250g when cooked, it still has 350 calories.4 -
Thank you for your input guys, I shall be sure to weigh it cooked and divide it between servings. 😊 xx1

Whilst I’ve long since figured out the conundrum of dry vs cooked rice and pasta (many entries say dry/raw weight but they actually give cals per gram for cooked) 🤯 this is the clearest explanation I’ve ever seen! I’ll definitely remember it this way from now to sanity check entries! Thank you! 😊1
