When did someone first notice?

Eventually someone will ask, “Did you lose weight?” For some, this is a cringe worthy moment. For others, it’s a validation. How much did you lose before someone took notice?
“OMG! You look GREAT!” How long did you have to work at it to get that first “WOW!” moment?

I joined MFP in 2013 at c240lb, it took around 35lb loss before someone mentioned it. This time round, I've lost 12lb from a starting weight of 200lb, and I'm still waiting to hear that!2

My DIL noticed when I lost only 6 lbs, but she's a doctor.
I started at about 200 lbs this time around but in my experience I usually have to lose 20 lbs before anyone says anything.
When you only have a few lbs to lose it can be apparent right away4 -
I'm only 5'0", so a little bit of weight gained or lost is very noticeable on me. I think it was about 10 lbs when I started losing weight.2

I have only have one person say anything and I’m taking her with a grain of salt as she was on a sales call.
I imagine other people notice but don’t comment (I’m down approx 25kg since last July, 176cm tall) and that’s fine by me - I see the difference in photos and certainly feel it every day.
Someone did ask the other day if I had dyed my hair, which I’m taking to mean something is different and you look good7 -
After 1 month I noticed. After 2 months people I saw rarely noticed. After 3 months pretty much everyone figured it out.
I also live in the prairies, with brutal winters so perhaps in the spring/summer it would have been different. Comfy, baggy clothes tend to hide weight better.5 -
Spouse noticed and commented. He has been very supportive. It was after my first 10 lbs. Then some lady friends. For me, other than the scale, I am using a favorite pair of jeans that I haven't worn in years, to measure my progress. They fit now and will most likely be loose when I reach my goal.6

In my experience, people don't really talk about your weight. I can count on one hand the number of people that said anything, and most of those were people that I see infrequently so the changes were very noticeable to them.
I started running and whatnot during my lunch breaks, and I had far more comments at work about my fitness then I did my weight.1 -
One person noticed when I was down 40lbs then at 50 I suddenly had a rush of people commenting. Had some since as I have continued but got most of the comments out of the way now. Got a few people asking for updates and advice too.0

Coming down from 242 lbs, I've been wondering when it would start to show. I was shaving yesterday and noticed my face seemed thinner. I've only lost 13 lbs so far but it does show in the face. When I was dressed and ready for breakfast my wife said, "your face is thinner." That's when I know I'm on the right track!8

Agreed, I lost 30 pounds before people started saying anything, but the first person to notice was nervous about mentioning it, lol. She might have thought I wasn't losing intentionally, or maybe I was just wearing a flattering dress or something. Fortunately for her, that was not the case and I was intentionally and healthily losing weight.1 -
Ive only lost 20lbs and still waiting 80 more to go😬😂3

I lost 14 lbs slowly last year and a handful of people noticed. I thought it was not a grand amount and I did it so slowly that the changes were there, but not that noticeable....I have leaned out rather than seen an enormous change in weight, etc, but people still noticed. I was surprised. In a good way. (lots of "you are so small/tiny" comments, even though still in the overweight BMI category, what?!) For reference point I went from 79 kg down to 72.5 kg.3

I didn't see ANYONE that I knew for the first 30 lbs. When they saw me, they noticed my face being thinner. Personally, I didn't notice much until around 50 lbs down. I have taken progress photos every week and now down 96 lbs. Now, looking at the 50 lbs down photo, I look very obese compared to today.6

My friend's mom noticed at 37 lbs down and it was such a huge motivation for me to keep going because I wasn't really seeing it myself. Of course I knew the scale was displaying the loss but I didn't see it or feel it in my body.
When I got down 65ish EVERYONE I ran into was giving me props. It's been neat. I keep a little spreadsheet of what my weight was the last time I saw them vs. what it is currently for funsies.6 -
I lost 25 pounds before anyone commented, but on the other hand I do (and have always) wear baggy clothes, but I ran into someone I had worked with until 6 months earlier and they noticed right away.
Now I get nothing at work except jokes about how I'm wasting away. Which is slightly annoying as I still have 30 more pounds to lose just to get to the middle of my healthy range that I'm targeting (175).3 -
I've lost 28 lbs so far and people didn't notice until i started putting before and after photos side by side1

People started to really notice around 25-30 pounds lost which I achieved late fall of 2018. . But my “ train friends” who ride the commuter train with me to work didn’t really see me without my big bulky winter coat on at that point. It was a cold spring and in May 2019 ( it SNOWED in May here!) I wore that big coat on a Monday but on Thursday it had gotten up to 59 degrees and I wore a new leather jacket. So suddenly people on my train saw me without the big coat for the first time in close to 6 months ( it also snowed here that October...oy!) . I was down more than 65 pounds at that point. One friend said”Oh my god did you lose a huge amount of weight like overnight?!?? Lololol5

At -30 lbs I got, “You look brighter.” At -50 is when people noticed I had lost weight. I think it is relative to proportion: losing 25 lbs when you start off at 200 is a much bigger proportion than losing 25 lbs when you start off at 300. This gives me hope: 10-lb increments will be noticeable as I get closer to goal weight.1

When I lost 10 lbs, one of my friends was first to notice. I didn't see much of a change, but I was happy that someone saw a difference so quickly!1

At -50 lbs people started to notice.

Lost almost 30lb but no one noticed lol4

I had someone first notice at 8lbs. Then a good chunk of people i know started saying stuff at 15. Now I've hit 21 lbs down and people at work who I don't talk to a lot are starting to ask. For reference Im 5'2. Started at 192 and down to 171.1

Actually, the first comments people started making to me were about how "healthy" I looked - weight loss comments followed a while after that. It was as if they could see something about me was changing but weren't sure quite what it was at first.1
-
My mom noticed within the first 2 kgs (roughly 5 pounds). It took about 50 pounds for everyone else to notice. I have lost 140 pounds.4
-
Started at 245 - I'm at about 220 now and I'm at the point where a LOT of people are noticing. My work bro noticed at about 10-15 pounds lost. But at this point I've had several people ask what I'm doing to lose weight.0

My mother in-law noticed within a month. My friend commented about it the other day. We only walk to school together to pick kids up. Im normally wearing a big coat so its hard to tell but the coat is hanging off me now and she mentioned It saying I looked great i was like Ooo thanks.0
